Fix the condition that adds the test to check CMAKE_TEST_GENERATOR
rather than the tools used to build CMake. Drop the test on Ninja
because the generator does not support subproject generation anyway.
Stop using the general build_generator_args and pass the
--build-generator options explicitly. Also pass --build-makeprogram
explicitly when CMAKE_TEST_MAKEPROGRAM is available because there is no
CMakeCache.txt in the test project subdirectory from which to pick up
the make program.
Create a CTEST_TEST_DEVENV variable that is set to the
CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM used for Visual Studio 7, 8, and 9. It will always
be either "devenv" or "VCExpress", and not "MSBuild". Add the
VSExcludeFromDefaultBuild test only when this variable is set, and use
its value as the --build-makeprogram value.
More work will be needed later to restore the test on VS 10 and above
when devenv is available, but this is the simplest approach for now.
The test is only enabled on VS 10 and above, where the generators now
select for "ctest --build-and-test" the MSBuild tool by default.
Simplify the test configuration by dropping the --build-makeprogram
option and all the logic needed to compute its value. The test will
automatically use MSBuild.
Historically these were both added for the Makefile and Visual Studio
generators, respectively. Later the VS generators started using the
CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM cache entry to find the IDE build tool, and the
CMAKE_BUILD_TOOL was simply set as an alias.
Fix the documentation to explain that CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM is the modern
variable and that CMAKE_BUILD_TOOL is the compatibility alias, not the
other way around. Replace uses of CMAKE_BUILD_TOOL with
CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM in CMake-provided modules. Nothing needs to lookup
CMAKE_BUILD_TOOL in the cache, so simply set it as a normal variable.
Some extra options are for "ctest --build-and-test" directly, and others
are values for "--build-options". Split these two roles out into two
separate variables and update existing uses.
Use "cmake --build" to drive the "install" target from the CMake build
tree itself. This avoids using the heavier "ctest --build-and-test"
just to run the native build tool to drive installation.
Run the bootstrap script through "cmake -P" instead of
"ctest --build-and-test" so that we do not need to abuse
the --build-makeprogram option of the latter.
Re-implement the build_command() command to use "cmake --build" instead
of generating a native build tool invocation directly. This command
will internally invoke the proper native build tool.
This avoids requiring cmGlobalGenerator::GenerateBuildCommand to produce
a string so that it can be later refactored to produce a vector with no
quoting or escaping. It will also allow us to later teach CMake to
delay the decision about which build tool to invoke until after the
project build system is generated to disk. For example, on Visual
Studio 10 and above the preferred command-line tool is MSBuild, but we
need to fall back to devenv if the .sln has Intel Fortran .vfproj files.

compatibility modes less than 2.0.
Allow ExternalData_URL_TEMPLATES to be empty if a value for
ExternalData_OBJECT_STORES is provided. Assume in this use case that
the object stores will already contain all needed objects. Extend the
Module.ExternalData test to cover this case (all objects in stores).
Extend the RunCMake.ExternalData test to cover the non-failure message
case when stores are provided without URL templates.

Add a CMake.Copyright test that, when the CMake version number knows the
year (as it does in development versions), checks that Copyright.txt has
been updated with the current version year.
Split the test cases covering spaces and colons into separate units.
Run the space cases everywhere. Disable the colon cases where they
are known to fail. This approach increases platform coverage for the
test and makes the known-failure logic as local as possible.
No Makefile generator on Windows can generate targets with ':'
in their name because the CMakeFiles/<target>.dir directory cannot
be created. Skip this part of the test on all Windows Make tools.
Commit 239b0c6b (Don't add invalid content to static lib
INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES., 2013-10-20) extended a test which
excercised the logic of the LINK_ONLY generator expression.
Commit ef10b87c (CMP0022: Plain target_link_libraries must populate
link interface, 2013-11-02) removed the instance of LINK_ONLY which
was excercised by that test.
Add a new test which excercises the other instance of LINK_ONLY by
setting the CMP0022 policy to NEW and consuming the contents of the
INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES target property.
In commit 18412153 (Refactor cmTarget::GetCompileDefinitions...,
2013-06-06) cmQtAutomoc was refactored to get all compile definitions
from the target instead of separately asking the target and querying the
directory-level COMPILE_DEFINITIONS property value. While the
generation process does integrate directory-level COMPILE_DEFINITIONS
into the target definitions, this did not happen until after Automoc
targets are constructed. Therefore the commit regressed use of
directory-level definitions in Automoc targets.
Factor the definition finalization logic out from the
cmGlobalGenerator::CreateGeneratorTargets method into a new
cmGlobalGenerator::FinalizeTargetCompileDefinitions method and call it
before constructing Automoc targets. This will place the
directory-level definitions into the target in time to use them for the
Automoc targets.
Extend the QtAutomoc test to cover this case.

Resolve conflict in Source/cmTarget.cxx by integrating the changes to
the internal copy constructor from both sides. Also resolve a logical
conflict by dropping the special case for INTERFACE_LIBRARY targets.
Since cmTarget::SetMakefile already forces CMP0022 to NEW for such
targets we need no special handling.
Resolve conflict in Source/cmTargetLinkLibrariesCommand.h by dropping

by taking the side from the 'policy-CMP0022-fixes' branch.
Since cmTarget::ComputeLinkInterface is called separately for each
"head" target that links a target, the warning we produce when
CMP0022 is not set could be repeated. Add explicit logic to allow
the warning to appear at most once. Multiple copies of the warning
for the same target are almost always identical and therefore
redundant. In the rare case that two copies of the warning are
different, the second can appear in a future run after the first
is fixed.
When cmExportFileGenerator::SetImportLinkInterface exports the old
LINK_INTERFACE_LIBRARIES property values it skips doing so for
non-linkable targets because target->GetLinkInterface returns NULL for
such targets.
Since cmExportFileGenerator::PopulateInterfaceLinkLibrariesProperty
looks at the INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES property directly instead of using
the computed link interface, teach it to skip exporting the property if
target->IsLinkable returns false.
Extend the RunCMake.CMP0022 test with a case covering this. Simply
export an executable target that links to a library that is not
exported.
The CMP0022 NEW behavior is that the INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES property
exactly defines the link interface. The plain target_link_libraries
signature says linking is transitive by default, so it should populate
the property.
Teach the target_link_libraries plain signature to populate the
INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES regardless of the CMP0022 setting. Refactor
the cmTarget::ComputeLinkInterface checks that warn when the policy is
not set to compare the new property to either the explicitly set old
link interface properties or the link implementation fallback for all
linkable target types, not just static libraries.
This fixes a regression in 2.8.12.0 that caused target_link_libraries to
not implement transitive linking in the plain signature once the policy
CMP0022 is set to NEW.
Teach cmGlobalGenerator::CheckTargets to include OBJECT_LIBRARY targets
in the check for source file existence.
Extend the RunCMake.ObjectLibrary test to cover this case.
Some compilers, such as Clang on OS X, do not want the -g flag for both
generating assembly code and assembling it. Drop the -g flag from
generation of main.s in the Assembler test.
Teach the cmGeneratorExpressionEvaluator filesystem artifact logic
to reject OBJECT_LIBRARY targets since they have no main artifact.
Without the explicit rejection evaluation falls through to an
internal CMake error message in cmTarget::GetOutputInfo.
Extend the RunCMake.GeneratorExpression test to cover these cases.

Instead of removing the depot name, which causes problems when looking
at the file change list in CDash, make the Update test remove a given
prefix from the files retrieved from Update.xml.
In certain scenarios, it is preferable to keep a 'dirty' install prefix
than to clear it, and to expect that content will not be found there.
Add a CMAKE_FIND_NO_INSTALL_PREFIX variable that can be set to disable
searching the install prefix.
Bracket arguments recorded in command invocations inside foreach,
function, and macro blocks should not have any replacements done when
the arguments are replayed later. Teach the RunCMake.Syntax test to
cover these cases.
Simply print out the lines as normal paragraph text. Teach the

All generators now support detection of the full path to the compiler, so
require it to be so. This will allow CMake<LANG>Information.cmake and
other logic to assume the full path to the compiler tool is available.
The Makefile generators already rejected CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER values
that did not name an existing compiler. Extend this error message to
all generators, make it occur as early as possible, and improve the
message with advice about how to set the compiler. If the full path to
the compiler is not known, finish enabling languages with a fatal error
so configuration does not continue.
For now, allow the RC language compiler to not be a full path. Later we
will need to detect the full path to "rc" under the VS IDE.

Teach the ctest_update implementation to use the p4 command-line
client to perform updates and extract the list of changes.
Add a CTest.UpdateP4 test like those that exist already for the other
version control tools. Make the test available when p4 and the p4d
server are found. During the test launch p4d in the background to
serve a repository from the test directory. Then direct the client
toward this server for the duration of the test.
Only valid target names or generator expressions may appear in
the target field of a LINK_ONLY expression.
Other content like link flags should still be added to that property
(wrapped in config-specific generator expressions), but not wrapped
in LINK_ONLY. Otherwise undue warnings would be issued for the
policy CMP0022.
The LINK_ONLY expression only has an effect for actual target
names anyway, so there is no logical deficit.
Set the minimum required version of CMake high enough to avoid the
warning for CMAKE_LEGACY_CYGWIN_WIN32. The warning appears on stderr
and breaks the expected output matching.
It was a subtest of the RunCMake.ObjectLibrary test. However, we need
to test a build with ExternalProject after running CMake, which RunCMake tests
do not do.
The source files are already processed by cmQtAutomoc to look for
moc includes, so extend that to also look for ui_ includes and
find corresponding .ui files to process.
This replaces the need to invoke qt4_wrap_ui().
As the ui files are not likely to be part of the SOURCES of the
target, store the options associated with them separately in the
cmMakefile for querying during the autogen run.
Don't try to show the windows, which would require a gui capable test
machine, and that's not guaranteed.
Automatically link to qtmain.a on Windows to avoid a policy warning. Set
policy CMP0020 to NEW by increasing the required version.
Don't attempt to run the test when using Windows.
When using the boost MPL library, one can set a define to increase
the limit of how many variadic elements should be supported. The
default for BOOST_MPL_LIMIT_VECTOR_SIZE is 20:

Because the TARGET_PROPERTY reads the boost_mpl_vector_size property
from the HEAD of the dependency graph (the user target), and because
that property appears in the COMPATIBLE_INTERFACE_NUMBER_MAX of
the dependencies of the user target, the maximum value for it is
chosen for the compile definition, ie, 40.
There are also use-cases for choosing the minimum value of a number.
In Qt, deprecated API can be disabled by version. Setting the
definition QT_DISABLE_DEPRECATED_BEFORE=0 disables no deprecated
API. Setting it to 0x501000 disables API which was deprecated before
Qt 5.1 etc.
If two dependencies require the use of API which was deprecated in
different Qt versions, then COMPATIBLE_INTERFACE_NUMBER_MIN can be
used to ensure that both can compile.
When scanning CMake module files for .rst comments, recognize
bracket comments starting in ".rst:" too. For example:

Include the bracket comment content terminated by the closing bracket.
Exclude the line containing the bracket if it starts in "#".
Teach the CMakeLib.testRST test to cover multiple bracket lengths
and ending brackets on lines with and without "#".
Update the cmake-developer.7 manual to document the bracket-comment
syntax for .rst documentation.
Teach the CMake language lexer to treat the \-LF pair terminating a
line ending in an odd number of backslashes inside a quoted argument
as a continuation. Drop the pair from the returned quoted argument
token text. This will allow long lines inside quoted argument
strings to be divided across multiple lines in the source file.
It will also allow quoted argument text to start on the line after
the opening quote. For example, the code:
set(x "\
...")
sets variable "x" to the value "..." with no opening newline.
Previously an odd number of backslashes at the end of a line inside
a quoted argument would put a \-LF pair (or a \-CR pair) literally
in the argument. Then the command-argument evaluator would complain
that the \-escape sequence is invalid. Therefore this syntax is
available to use without changing behavior of valid existing code.
Teach the RunCMake.Syntax test to cover cases of quoted arguments
with lines ending in \, \\, and \\\. Odd counts are continuations.
Drop all behavior activated by setting CMAKE_BACKWARDS_COMPATIBILITY to
a value lower than 2.4, and generate an error when projects or the user
attempt to do so. In the error suggest using a CMake 2.8.x release.
Teach cmake_minimum_required to warn about projects that do not require
at least CMake 2.4. They are not supported by CMake >= 3.0.
Replace the documentation of CMAKE_BACKWARDS_COMPATIBILITY with a
reference to policy CMP0001.
Other warnings for the same policy already have similar output since
commit 81d2793e (Add differing target property content to policy CMP0022
warning, 2013-09-11).
Add cmCommand::Disallowed helper to check the setting of a policy that
disallows the command. Add a RunCMake.DisallowedCommands test
placeholder. Add a Help/policy/DISALLOWED_COMMAND.txt file for
inclusion by each policy document to avoid duplication of the common
text.
Teach cmRST to recognize non-markup lines ending in '::' followed by a
blank line as starting a literal block. Record the whole block as if it
were a literal block directive and print it just like a code block.
Extend the CMakeLib.testRST test to cover such cases.
Move the ProcessDirectiveParsedLiteral and ProcessDirectiveCodeBlock
method internals into an OutputMarkupLines helper. Pass through it a
new "inlineMarkup" parameter and teach OutputLine to understand it.
When false, do not process inline markup. Extend the CMakeLib.testRST
test to cover the two cases.
Add a string(CONCAT) command to simply concatenate input arguments
together. This will be useful for combining strings from different
quoting syntaxes. Add a RunCMake.string test covering these cases.
Introduce a policy to control the behavior.
The AliasTargets unit test already tests that using a
double-semicolon in the name is not an error. Change the ExportImport
test to use a namespace with a double-semicolon too.
The result is that the depends of the target are created.

Executing 'make iface' will result in the anotherlib and extra targets
being made.
Adding a regular executable to the INTERFACE of an INTERFACE_LIBRARY
will not result in the executable being built with 'make iface' because
of the logic in cmComputeTargetDepends::AddTargetDepend.
So far, this is implemented only for the Makefile generator. Other
generators will follow if this feature is possible for them.
Make INTERFACE_LIBRARY targets part of the all target by default.
Test this by building the all target and making the expected library
EXCLUDE_FROM_ALL.

This has not been allowed since they were introduced in
commit 91438222 (target_link_libraries: Add LINK_(PUBLIC|PRIVATE)
options, 2011-10-07), but allowing this form makes it more compatible
with the newer PUBLIC and PRIVATE keywords.
Teach the CMake language parser to recognize Lua-style "long bracket"
arguments. These start with two '[' separated by zero or more '='
characters e.g. "[[" or "[=[" or "[==[". They end with two ']'
separated by the same number of '=' as the opening bracket. There is no
nesting of brackets of the same level (number of '='). No escapes,
variable expansion, or other processing is performed on the content
between such brackets so they always represent exactly one argument.
Also teach CMake to parse and ignore "long comment" syntax. A long
comment starts with "#" immediately followed by an opening long bracket.
It ends at the matching close long bracket.
Teach the RunCMake.Syntax test to cover long bracket and long comment
cases.
Read input files in binary mode instead of text mode and convert CRLF
newlines to LF newlines explicitly in our own buffer. This is necessary
to read CMake source files with CRLF newlines on platforms whose C
runtime libraries do not transform newlines in text mode. For example,
a Cygwin or Linux binary may not transform CRLF -> LF in files read from
a Windows filesystem. Perform the conversion ourselves to ensure that
multi-line string literals in CMake source files have LF newlines
everywhere.
Teach the lexer to read a UTF-8, UTF-16 BE/LE, or UTF-32 BE/LE
Byte-Order-Mark from the start of a file if any is present. Report an
error on files using UTF-16 or UTF-32 and accept a UTF-8 or missing BOM.
Teach the lexer to treat a single letter as an identifier instead of an
unquoted argument. Outside of a command invocation, the parser treats
an identifier as a command name and an unquoted argument as an error.
Inside of a command invocation, the parser treats an identifier as an
unquoted argument. Therefore this change to the lexer will make what
was previously an error case work with no other behavioral change.
Create a cmRST class to perform just enough reStructuredText processing
to support display of Help documents in human-readable text format.
This will be used to implement --help-* command-line options.
Support directives "include", "replace", "parsed-literal", "toctree"
(Sphinx), and "cmake-module" (CMake Sphinx Extension to scan .cmake
modules). Support inline CMake Sphinx Domain roles to convert
cross-references to corresponding title text. Support inline
substitutions defined by the "replace" directive, but keep it simple by
requiring replacements to be defined before use.
Add a CMakeLib "testRST" case to cover processing of supported
constructs and compare results against expected output.
With our modern development workflow it is less likely a property will
be added to C++ code without documentation. This mode only existed to
support the DocTest which had very limited coverage of the properties
anyway.

This allows the use of the $<TARGET_FILE:...> generator expression as a
replacement for the use of the LOCATION target property. The use of the
LOCATION target property is now deprecated for in-build targets.
Also drop other checks for older CMake versions:
* Simplify cmake_set_target_folder macro.
* Use find_package(LibArchive) unconditionally.
* Simplify condition for running testVisualStudioSlnParser test.
* Convert two macros to functions.
* Unconditionally run the CTestTestRerunFailed test.
The final location and name of a build-target is not determined
until generate-time. However, reading the LOCATION property from
a target is currently allowed at configure time. Apart from creating
possibly-erroneous results, this has an impact on the implementation
of cmake itself, and prevents some major cleanups from being made.
Disallow reading LOCATION from build-targets with a policy. Port some
existing uses of it in CMake itself to use the TARGET_FILE generator
expression.
Make the API for adding targets string based so that it can easily
use cmGeneratorTarget.
Teach the cmIncludeCommand to generate the exported file at
configure-time instead if it is to be include()d.
The RunCMake.ExportWithoutLanguage test now needs a dummy header.h
file as expected error from export() is now reported after the
missing file error.

Drop the HELP_XCODE workarounds needed on older Xcode versions when
using Xcode >= 5. We now expect builds and rebuilds to work using
proper dependencies with no special help.
By default, the message is not issued. If CMAKE_ERROR_DEPRECATED
is on, the message is fatal. If CMAKE_WARN_DEPRECATED is on, the
message is a warning.
* Do not define BEOS anymore (this includes workarounds which we don't
need most of the time in Haiku, so we prefer opt-in IF(HAIKU) in the
cmake files instead).
* On the other hand, do define UNIX (we are trying to be compliant) and
HAIKU (there is still a number of things we don't do like the
average UNIX clone)
* Do not use UnixPaths, as our filesystem hierarchy isn't anything like
what it expects.
* Do not use -nostart, which the compiler doesn't know about anymore.
This used to be an Haiku extension to gcc, and is equivalent to
-shared which is the default gcc option.
* While "dl" functions are provided in libroot, this is always
implicitly linked so there is no need to tell cmake about it.
* Forcing position-independent code is not needed, so remove it.
* On the other hand, include appropriate linker options for executables
and shared libraries.
* Support for the two available compilers in Haiku (gcc2 and gcc4) and
pick the right headers and libraries according to the currently
selected one.
* With the adoption of the package manager, the directory layout was
changed. Tell cmake where to look for header files and libraries.
* As we don't define BEOS anymore, enable the workaround we still need
for HAIKU as well. This is the lack of a libm (it is part of the
implicitly linked in libroot)

Previously if headers required to check if a struct has a member can be
compiled with C++ compiler only, the check would fail because the C
compiler fails. As a consequence, the result variable would be set to
false, even if the struct has that particular member.
Teach CHECK_STRUCT_HAS_MEMBER to accept a new optional argument LANGUAGE
that allows one to explicitly set the compiler to use. The new
signature is therefore:
CHECK_STRUCT_HAS_MEMBER (<struct> <member> <header> <variable>
[LANGUAGE <language>])
This assumes that coverage.py has been run in such a way to produce its
standard XML output. This uses the Cobertura schema and should be somewhat
generalizable.
Add a new command line argument to ctest. This allows users to
rerun tests that failed during the previous call to ctest. This
is accomplished by analyzing the most recently modified file named
"^LastTestsFailed*" in the Testing/Temporary subdirectory of the
project's binary directory.
Add an unset() command option to remove a variable from the calling
scope, just like the set() command's PARENT_SCOPE option. Teach the
Unset test to cover such cases.
CMake is aware of the policy's NEW behavior and the AppleClang compiler
id. Set the policy to NEW explicitly to avoid the warning and get the
NEW behavior.
Also teach the RunCMake test infrastructure to build tests with
-DCMAKE_POLICY_DEFAULT_CMP0025=NEW to avoid the policy warning
in test output that must match specific regular expressions.
Apple distributes their own Clang build with their own version numbers
that differ from upstream Clang. Use the __apple_build_version__ symbol
to identify the Apple Clang compiler and report the Apple Build Version
as the fourth version component in CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER_VERSION. Add
Compiler/AppleClang-<lang> and Platform/Darwin-AppleClang-<lang> modules
that simply include the upstream equivalents.
Fix comparisons of CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER_ID to Clang in CMake's own
source and tests to account for AppleClang.
Currently, export() is executed at configure-time.
One problem with this is that certain exported properties like
the link interface may not be complete at the point the export() is
encountered leading to an incorrect or incomplete exported
representation. Additionally, the generated IMPORTED_LOCATION
property may even be incorrect if commands following the export()
have an effect on it.
Another problem is that it requires the C++ implementation of cmake
to be capable of computing the exported information at configure time.
This is a limitation on the cleanup and maintenance of the code. At
some point in the future, this limitation will be dropped and more
implementation will be moved from cmTarget to cmGeneratorTarget.
This target type only contains INTERFACE_* properties, so it can be
used as a structural node. The target-specific commands enforce
that they may only be used with the INTERFACE keyword when used
with INTERFACE_LIBRARY targets. The old-style target properties
matching LINK_INTERFACE_LIBRARIES_<CONFIG> are always ignored for
this target type.
The name of the INTERFACE_LIBRARY must match a validity generator
expression. The validity is similar to that of an ALIAS target,
but with the additional restriction that it may not contain
double colons. Double colons will carry the meaning of IMPORTED
or ALIAS targets in CMake 2.8.13.
An ALIAS target may be created for an INTERFACE library.
At this point it can not be exported and does not appear in the
buildsystem and project files are not created for them. That may
be added as a feature in a later commit.
The generators need some changes to handle the INTERFACE_LIBRARY
targets returned by cmComputeLinkInterface::GetItems. The Ninja
generator does not use that API, so it doesn't require changes
related to that.

Re-insert the semicolon which was removed during splitting.
Commit d777b8e7 (Genex: Allow relative paths in INSTALL_INTERFACE.,
2013-07-25) introduced the prefixItems method to allow relative paths
in the argument of the INSTALL_INTERFACE expression. That method was
buggy in that it did not re-introduce the semicolon separator in
the result.
This bug also affects paths which are already absolute in user code.
The lack of Qt4 on a system should silently skip the corresponding tests
with no other messages. This is already the case for other find_package
calls in Tests/CMakeLists.txt.
Xcode 5.0 now relinks targets when their shared libraries dependencies
are modified, and there seems to be no way to stop it. Report this as a
known limitation in the test output and do not fail.
In Tests/Architecture and Tests/BuildDepends/Project we select a set of
OS X cpu architectures to use for the test. Prior to Xcode 4 we always
used i386 and ppc. Starting with Xcode 4, the tools do not support ppc
but do support x86_64, so we switch to that. Fix the version check to
recognize Xcode >= 5 as at least Xcode 4 and use the new architectures.
This is useful for cases like:

In this example we require the actual test executable to exist to
run the test in addition to the test driver at argv[0]. Also the
$<CONFIGURATION> expression improves over \${CTEST_CONFIGURATION_TYPE}
because the latter is not normalized for case-sensitive filesystems.
When RunCMake tests run during dynamic analysis, valgrind may add lines
of the form "==[0-9]+==..." to the output. Remove such lines from the
actual output before matching it against the expected output.
In commit 10bc50ea (Tests: ignore Guard Malloc messages in MemChecker
tests, 2013-05-13) we forgot to escape backslashes in the CMake language
to get them into the regex. Add them now.
Add the CMake.PolicyCheck test.
This test uses "git grep" to look for policies added in a "dated"
version of CMake. It will fail if a policy is added as of,
for example, CMake 2.8.11.20130828.
The intent is to prevent such constructs from making it into an
"official" release. Three instances actually appeared in the first
attempted release candidate for 2.8.12.
This test may sometimes yield false positives. After all, it's just
using a regular expression to detect this condition, and something
in a comment could possibly match it. As of right now, that's not
true, but it's easy to imagine such a comment being added.
The new test may also not catch all future problems of this sort.
However, it will catch problems of this sort for all code that follows
the present layout style in Source/cmPolicies.cxx.
The old version encountered a compile error on newer versions of GCC.
Update to the latest supported release of Trilinos, remove the version
number from the name of the Contract, and some other minor tweaks to
get the test passing once more.
This is necessary because custom commands and targets may create
custom files whose names are determined by generator expressions.
For example, clang should be using $<TARGET_FILE> and $<TARGET_FILE_DIR>
instead of reverse engineering the output file name:

However, that can only be done when ADDITIONAL_MAKE_CLEAN_FILES
also accepts and evaluates generator expressions.
Similarly, KDE uses the LOCATION property where $<TARGET_FILE>
would also be better in KDE4_HANDLE_RPATH_FOR_EXECUTABLE but
also appends the result to ADDITIONAL_MAKE_CLEAN_FILES.
After this patch, both can be ported to generator expressions.
Exclude Ninja and Xcode from the CMP0021 test
They do not behave the same as the makefile generator with

Avoid duplicating the normal ctest output matching expression. Use
literal newlines instead of "\n" to improve readability. Integrate
matching of guard-malloc lines at the end of the output with expressions
matching tool output like lines for BullseyeCoverage.
Since commit 58e52416 (Warn about arguments not separated by whitespace,
2013-02-16) we warn about arguments not separated by spaces. Loosen the
warning to not complain about left parens not separated by spaces from
the preceding token. This is common in code like "if(NOT(X))".
Teach the RunCMake.Syntax test to cover cases of left parens not
separated by spaces and check that no warning appears.
Set the minimum required version of CMake high enough to avoid the
warning for CMAKE_LEGACY_CYGWIN_WIN32. The warning appears on stderr
and breaks the expected output matching.
The extendResult method expects a non-empty parameters vector, as
assured by the normal case. Avoid calling the method when the parser
finds an incomplete generator expression, but has already entered
the state of expecting to find parameters.

In the future CMake will introduce Lua-style long bracket syntax.
Warn about unquoted arguments that in the future will be treated
as opening long brackets.
Teach the RunCMake.Syntax test to cover such cases and ensure that the
warning appears.
Teach the lexer to return tokens for whitespace. Teach the parser to
tolerate the space tokens where whitespace is allowed. Also teach the
parser to diagnose and warn about cases of quoted arguments followed
immediately by another argument. This was accidentally allowed
previously, so we only warn.
Update the RunCMake.Syntax test case StringNoSpace expected stderr to
include the warnings.
If a line inside a string ends in a backslash count the following
newline character as a line increment. Add a test covering this case to
verify that subsequent line numbers are correct.
Test basic unquoted and quoted argument parsing cases including failure
on an unterminated string and an unterminated command invocation. Also
cover arguments not separated by any spaces, which is accidentally
allowed by the current parser.
The output file used for memory checker runs must be unique for every test run
in parallel, so simply make them unique for every test run. Simply use the test
index to avoid collisions.
The Borland-built CTest binary has trouble running many instances of
itself in parallel, making the test unreliable. No particular recent
change appears to be the culprit and the failure is not reliably
reproducible. Just silence the failure for now by skipping the test.
* The ALIAS name must match a validity regex.
* Executables and libraries may be aliased.
* An ALIAS acts immutable. It can not be used as the lhs
of target_link_libraries or other commands.
* An ALIAS can be used with add_custom_command, add_custom_target,
and add_test in the same way regular targets can.
* The target of an ALIAS can be retrieved with the ALIASED_TARGET
target property.
* An ALIAS does not appear in the generated buildsystem. It

The VS 6 IDE does not want to recompile a particular source after
a particular header it includes is modified, even by hand. For
now just silence the failure and document it with a comment.
The new feature of install(TARGETS ... INCLUDES DESTINATION) introduced
in commit 650e61f8 (Add a convenient way to add the includes install
dir to the INTERFACE., 2013-01-05) introduced this crash. If the
new feature is used with a target which has no
INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES, a segfault occurred.
Commit 650e61f8 (Add a convenient way to add the includes install
dir to the INTERFACE., 2013-01-05) introduced an error case for
using the install(TARGETS) command with specified INCLUDES DESTINATION,
but no specified EXPORT set.
It is convenient to use a variable to set the various destinations
for different outputs (as KDE does), and some targets such as
executables are installed but not exported. This was triggering
the error case, but as it is a common case, remove the error.
This reverts commit 6187876dea.
It was actually possible before to have paths with spaces in them, the spaces
just need to be quoted. This way spaces will work as argument separators.
First, it prevents a NULL dereference and second it reiterates that
targets without languages are not supported by CMake.
Add a RunCMake.ExportWithoutLanguage test exporting a library without a
languages.
Teach the Preprocess test to get, set, and then get the same value for
the COMPILE_DEFINITIONS target property and verify that the value is not
changed. This ensures the internal structured storage of the property
value can reproduce the original string value.
Add a new signature to help populate INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES and
LINK_LIBRARIES cleanly in a single call. Add policy CMP0023 to control
whether the keyword signatures can be mixed with uses of the plain
signatures on the same target.
Export the INCLUDES DESTINATION without appending to the
INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES of the target itself. That way, a target
can be exported multiple times with different INCLUDES DESTINATION
without unintended cross-pollution of export sets.
It accepted an optional argument to test for equality, but no way
to get the linker language of a particular target.
TARGET_PROPERTY provides this flexibility and STREQUAL provides
the necessary API for equality test.
Extend the CompileDefinitions test to cover accessing the
property of another target.

If one of the libraries (_DEBUG or _RELEASE) is not set, the value is
set to the value of the other one. FindQt4, from which the macro is
extracted, sets the values to XXX_LIBRARY_{DEBUG,RELEASE}-NOTFOUND
instead. In both cases the XXX_LIBRARY is correct, but using NOTFOUND
makes it easier to understand which one is missing.
Update Tests/CMakeOnly/SelectLibraryConfigurations with the new logic.
In CMakeDetermineCompilerABI we use try_compile with the COPY_FILE
option to get a copy of the compiled binary used to detect the ABI
information. We already tolerate the case when compilation fails.
However, when compilation appears to succeed but does not produce the
expected executable the try_compile command immediately reports an error
because the COPY_FILE fails.
Tolerate COPY_FILE failure without stopping the overall configuration
process by using the try_compile COPY_FILE_ERROR option to capture the
error message. Log the full error to CMakeError.log and simply report
failure to detect the ABI as if compilation had failed.
Teach the RunCMake.Configure test to cover this case and verify that the
messages show up as expected both in stdout and in CMakeError.log.
The test uses generate_export_header(cmp0022OLD ...) to generate the
cmp0022_export.h header used by both cmp0022OLD and cmp0022NEW. In
the latter the _EXPORTS symbol does not match what the header expects
so the library does not export anything. The Watcom linker does not
like to create shared libraries that do not export any symbols.
Fix this by setting the DEFINE_SYMBOL property on cmp0022NEW to match
that of cmp0022OLD as the header expects.

5aa9731 GenexEval: Add abstracted access to link interface for a target.
When the COPY_FILE operation fails optionally capture the error message
with a COPY_FILE_ERROR option instead of reporting the error
immediately. This gives callers a chance to do something else or report
the error.
Teach the RunCMake.try_compile test to cover bad argument combinations
involving COPY_FILE_ERROR. Teach the TryCompile test to cover the case
of a COPY_FILE error message captured by COPY_FILE_ERROR.
If CMAKE_<lang>_FLAGS contains quotes or other CMake language characters
they must be escaped when written into the generated CMakeLists.txt file
so that the test project parses them properly.
Teach the TryCompile test to cover this case by adding a flag with
quotes into CMAKE_C_FLAGS during a C language try_compile.
Use preprocessor loops and add a unit test for the appropriate
policies. All policies whose value is recorded at target creation
time should be part of this list.
When CMake reports failure to configure a project, especially when the
toolchain does not initialize properly, the true reason may be clear
from reading the CMakeFiles/CMake(Output|Error).log files. Advise users
to look at these files if they exist when configuration fails.
Add RunCMake.Configure test to check that the log files are mentioned
when configuration fails.
Always populate the INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES for interface
entries. Don't populate the old interface properties
matching (IMPORTED_)?LINK_INTERFACE_LIBRARIES(_<CONFIG>)?
if CMP0022 is NEW.
Because the INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES property is now populated by
the target_link_libraries when operating on a static library,
make an equivalent change which populates the property with
the same value when the old link_libraries() command is used. This
silences the policy warning in that case.
This property is generated only for targets which have recorded
policy CMP0022 as NEW, and a compatibility mode is added to
additionally export the old interfaces in that case too.
If the old interfaces are not exported, the generated export files
require CMake 2.8.12. Because the unit tests use a version which
is not yet called 2.8.12, temporarily require a lower version.
This property replaces the properties which
match (IMPORTED_)?LINK_INTERFACE_LIBRARIES(_<CONFIG>)?, and is enabled
for IMPORTED targets, and for non-IMPORTED targets only with a policy.
For static libraries, the INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES property is
also used as the source of transitive usage requirements content.
Static libraries still require users to link to all entries in
their LINK_LIBRARIES, but usage requirements such as INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES
COMPILE_DEFINITIONS and COMPILE_OPTIONS can be restricted to only
certain interface libraries.
Because the INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES property is populated unconditionally,
we need to compare the evaluated result of it with the link implementation
to determine whether to issue the policy warning for static libraries. For
shared libraries, the policy warning is issued if the contents of
the INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES property differs from the contents of the
relevant config-specific old LINK_INTERFACE_LIBRARIES property.
If a non-IMPORTED library is added to the INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES
of a IMPORTED target, the non-IMPORTED target needs to become a
target dependency and link dependency of the consuming target.
This is already the case since commit 30962029 (Make targets depend
on the link interface of their dependees, 2012-12-26), and fixed in
the parent commit, so test that it works.

In my project group we are using CMake to generate c++/cli winform
projects and I noticed the work done in commit 79ec7868 (VS: Add Windows
Forms Support, 2013-04-29) was in the right direction for solving some
of the problems we were facing.
The changes as submitted was breaking some functionality in our
projects, so I made some changes that fixes our problems and I believe
that it will also work for others.
* Resx files did not link correctly with the winform h-file so I added
the Resx configuration to the vcxproj file.
* I removed the functionality for setting <CLRSupport> true for the
project based on if an resx-file is pressent. This is preventing
us from using native cpp code. Also this do not address that some
projects will need to set other options like clr:pure, clr:safe.
This could be implemented as a cmake option, so it is possible to
specify exactly what is needed. Existing VSWindowsFormsResx Test
project is updated so it will be working with my changes.
Factor appending of individual flags out into an AppendFlagEscape method
in cmLocalGenerator and teach it to use EscapeForShell. Update all
COMPILE_OPTIONS handling to use AppendFlagEscape.
Override the method in the Xcode generator to use its custom escape
implementation.

Process the sources to generate a CMakeLists.txt that enables all needed
languages.
Teach the TryCompile test to try cases with two sources of the same
language and of mixed languages. Teach RunCMake.try_compile to cover
error cases for the signature.
If the expression $<TARGET_PROPERTY:prop> appears in the content
of a target property, the target that prop is read from is
the 'head target' of the expression. In contexts such as evaluating
the content of a target property during generation, such
as INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES, the 'head target' is the one on which the
initial request was made.
If evaluating a generator expression which is not a target property
content, the target must be explicitly specified. Such contexts
include add_custom_command and file(GENERATE). The content might
then look like
$<TARGET_PROPERTY:tgt,prop>
However, as there is no HeadTarget set, any generator expressions
evaluated as part of reading prop from tgt which do not specify
the tgt directly report an error.
Modify the logic of the TARGET_PROPERTY generator expression so
that in such contexts, the 'head target' is set to the appropriate
target which was first encountered.
It is common to specify a CMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_FILE and get a warning
for using it despite it not being used.
The WarnUnusedCliUnused test relies on the warning being emitted
each time cmake is run on an existing build. That behavior is changed
by this patch to warn only on the first invokation of CMake, and not
on subsequent invokations (because the variable is in the cache with
the same value). For that test, a clean target is added which clears
the cache and cause the warning to be emitted each time.
As the Ninja generator does not support the feature needed to test
this, it is not tested with that generator.
This command is similar to add_definitions, in that it affects
the compile options of all targets which follow it. The implementation
is similar to the implementation of the include_directories command,
in that it is based on populating a COMPILE_OPTIONS directory property
and using that to initialize the same property on targets.
Unlike the include_directories command however, the add_compile_options
command does not affect previously defined targets. That is, in
the following code, foo will not be compiled with -Wall, but bar
will be:
add_library(foo ...)
add_compile_options(-Wall)
add_library(bar ...)
Use makefile->IssueMessage() to print the unprocessed watch message in a
format consistent with other CMake messages and with a more complete
call stack for the access.
When a watch does not specify a command to call then variable_watch
prints out a message to stderr. Remove code after that which collects
all variable values to construct a message that is never printed.
Otherwise such code causes a READ_ACCESS watch to trigger on all
variables in the currents scope.

This fixes bug #13797.
The kinds of changes applied in 373faae5 for frameworks are now
applied to CFBundle. The prefix and suffix for CFBundles are
now handled in cmTarget::GetFullNameInternal.
That will allow things like this:

The qt4_generate_moc call would use the INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES from
the foo target using generator expressions. Currently it reads
the INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES directory property, meaning that include_directories()
is required.
Support for the TARGET is also added to qt4_wrap_cpp, but not qt4_automoc,
as that is deprecated in favor of the AUTOMOC target property.
The moc tool reports failure if the Q_INTERFACES macro is used with
an argument which has not appeared with Q_DECLARE_INTERFACE, so that is
the basis of the unit test.
The command line arguments are now always written to a file, which is
passed to moc as the @atfile. This was already the case on Windows, but
now it is used everywhere. The reason for that is that it is not currently
possible to expand the list of includes from a target directly in
a add_custom_command invokation (though that may become possible in the
future). There is not a big disadvantage to using the file anyway on
unix, so having one code path instead of two is also a motivation.
This corresponds to the g++ and clang++
option -fvisibility-inlines-hidden on linux. On Windows with MinGW,
this corresponds to -fno-keep-inline-dllexport. That option is
not supported by clang currently.
This is initialized by CMAKE_<LANG>_VISIBILITY_PRESET. The target
property is used as the operand to the -fvisibility= compile option
with GNU compilers and clang.
Process all arguments in a single loop using a simple state machine.
While at it, fix some error message typos. Also allow LINK_LIBRARIES
with no actual libraries to disable use of the -DLINK_LIBRARIES=...
from the CMAKE_FLAGS. This was already possible in the old logic if
LINK_LIBRARIES was immediately followed by another keyword argument
instead of the end of the argument list, so allow it in general.
Update the RunCMake.try_compile test cases accordingly.

Add a RunCMake.if test to cover if() command behavior. Start with a
test for IS_DIRECTORY cases with an existing directory and a long path,
both with a trailing slash.
In Qt 5.1, Qt5::Core has a INTERFACE_QT_MAJOR_VERSION property
of '5', and since CMake 2.8.11, Qt4::QtCore has an
INTERFACE_QT_MAJOR_VERSION of '4'. This was introduced in
commit 4aa10cd6 (FindQt4: Set the INTERFACE_QT_MAJOR_VERSION for
Qt4::QtCore, 2013-03-16), to produce an error if Qt 4 and Qt 5
are erroneously used by the same target. This can also be used
however to determine the Qt major version, and therefore the
particular moc executable to use during automoc steps. This means
that targets in a single buildsystem can use a selection of Qt 4
and Qt 5, and still take advantage of the CMAKE_AUTOMOC feature
without conflicting.
The ExternalData_LINK_CONTENT option tells ExternalData to convert real
data files it finds into content links and to "stage" the original
content in a ".ExternalData_<algo>_<hash>" file. However, after a data
object has been staged it is possible that a user-provided pattern in
the "REGEX:" option will later match the staged object file. We must
not process staged object files even when a user pattern matches them.
Fix the implementation to not match a staged object file as a normal
data file for conversion. Extend the RunCMake.ExternalData test to
cover this case.
The VS 6 IDE does not like spaces in definition values so CMake drops
them and warns. The Tests/CompileDefinitions test C code that looks for
the dropped definitions already knows to skip them, but CMake still
warns. Silence the warnings by avoiding such values in the first place
on VS 6.
The variables in this module are used to configure a header file
with defines whose name depends on the name of the target.
As valid names of targets may be invalid for use as defines, convert
the names of the defines used to C identifiers first. This is already
done in C++ code for the DEFINE_SYMBOL property.
This is not as simple as ensuring that the BASE_NAME is a C identifier,
because most of the define names are configurable, and because use of
a BASE_NAME which is not a C identifier, such as 4square can become a
C identifier by specifying a prefix in the generate_export_header
macro.
They can't be used when evaluating link libraries, but they can be
used for include directories and compile definitions. Later they can
be used for compile options.
The idea is to write to a temp file which contains generator
expressions, and at generate time, evaluate the generator expressions,
and write the result to a file.
Because executables on Windows are limited in the length of command line
it is possible to use, it is common to write command line arguments to a
file instead and specify the file as a source of arguments.
This new FILE(GENERATE) subcommand allows the use of generator
expressions to create such files so that they can be used with
add_custom_command for example.
Make handling of directory separators consistent between
non-bundle and bundle code.
Remove xcode specific flag from cmTarget when getting install_name.
Add (more) consistent convenience functions in cmTarget to get
directories inside of bundles and frameworks to add files to.
This refactor also fixes bug #12263 where frameworks
had the wrong install name when SKIP_BUILD_RPATH.
Also make install_name for frameworks consistent between Makefile
and Xcode generator.
The parent commit added a empty_entry_test shared library to the
IncludeDirectories test. Some toolchains fail to create a shared
library with no user-defined symbols, so provide a dummy symbol.

This generator expression joins a list with a separator. The separator
may contain arbitrary content, such as commas, which is ordinarily a
delimiter in the generator expression syntax.
Add support to maintain designer functionality for Visual Studio C++
Windows Forms projects. Also add a test project showing how to use
the CMakeLists.txt file and, when successfully configured, will allow
use of the designer for the included form.
All supported memory checkers now write their output to a file. Use a dummy
checker that ignores the given filename and ensure that the missing file is
reported as error.
The code for the tests is basically the same for all those subtests, so have
one template and configure that for as many tests as possible to make it
easier maintainable.
The memory checker command can't be quoted at this point, because previously it
has been tested that the given file exists, which will fail if the name is
quoted. The CTestTestMemcheckUnknown test aimed to test this case, has always
failed to do so and serves no useful purpose therefore.
The dummy memory tester implementation now understands the command line
switches for all memory checkers to redirect the output to a file. This avoids
triggering the error cases for BoundsChecker and Purify because the output file
does not exist.
Commit b8259c3d (Centralize maintenance of usage requirement include
directories, 2013-04-29) changed the handling of the property.
Previously setting the property directly instead of via
target_link_libraries would not result in transitive include
directory handling.
This allows the ctest_build command's TARGET option to name a target
in a subdirectory and still build properly with msbuild.
Add test case covering use of ctest_build() with such a TARGET.
Add test covering cmGlobalGenerator::GenerateBuildCommand for VS
solutions with MSBuild and building a target defined in a subdirectory
and not part of ALL.
Create class cmVisualStudioSlnParser as a generic parser for Visual
Studio .sln files. Implement minimum functionality but keep class
extensible. Add tests for the class.
Use the suggestion from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2262855 to escape
semicolons in preprocessor definitions for VS >= 10. Update the
COMPILE_DEFINITIONS documentation disclaimer list of known limitations
accordingly. Update our "Preprocess" test to cover the case.

One is created by the compiler (/Fd) and the other by the linker (/pdb).
The two options should not specify the same file. Split them up.
In the VS IDE generators, simply drop ProgramDataBaseFileName to
take the VS default "/Fd$(IntDir)vc$(PlatformToolsetVersion).pdb".
In the Makefile generators, set "/Fd" on the compile line to be
the directory containing object files (with a trailing slash the
compiler will add the "vc$(PlatformToolsetVersion).pdb" filename
automatically). Drop the /Fd option from the exe link command
line and add "/pdb" instead (already done for dll linking).
Update these rules for both MSVC and Intel tools.
Drop support for PDB_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY and PDB_NAME in STATIC
libraries because the generated .pdb files are only from /Fd
and not real linker-generated .pdb files. Update documentation to
clarify that the PDB_* properties are only for linker .pdb files.
This regresses the PDBDirectoryAndName test for STATIC libraries.
Since it is not clear at this time what should be done for STATIC
library .pdb files, comment out the relevant portion of the test
and leave a TODO comment.
When called with a non-existent LHS target name the user may be trying
to add file-level dependencies. Clarify the error message to explain
the difference between target-level and file-level dependencies. Point
the reader at the commands and options needed for the latter.
The commit to add the INTERFACE_QT_MAJOR_VERSION in qtbase.git
is 14054d45 (Set the INTERFACE_QT_MAJOR_VERSION to 5., 2013-03-16)
which will be part of Qt 5.1.0.
If there is a Qt 5.0.3 release, there is no guarantee it will
contain that commit. Make sure such a Qt version does not fail
with this test if not.
We can do this check only if the TargetName is non-empty, which means
that we're evaluating INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES from a linked
dependency which was set using target_link_libraries.
It is possible to have relative paths in INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES already
in CMake 2.8.10.2, so that part will require a policy to fix.
It is considered an error if the INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES contains
a directory which does not exist, which indicates a programmer error
by the upstream, or a packaging error.
One of the RunCMake.CompatibleInterface tests also needs to be updated
due to this change. Non-existant includes were used in the test, but
are not needed.
Check that source and binary directories are not part of the
INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES for installed IMPORTED targets.
This is limited to directories which do not contain generator
expressions to evaluate. Such paths can only be checked at time
of use of the imported target, which will be done in a follow up
patch.
In particular, this checks that CTest's use of select() has a sufficient
file descriptor set size limit (FD_SETSIZE) to handle many child
processes at the same time. Running 20 tests requires more than 64
descriptors, the Cygwin default that we override.
Rename the variable added by commit 9ce1b9ef (Add
CMAKE_BUILD_INTERFACE_INCLUDES build-variable, 2012-11-25) to
CMAKE_INCLUDE_CURRENT_DIR_IN_INTERFACE to be more consistent with the
existing CMAKE_INCLUDE_CURRENT_DIR variable.

We can't find both preprocessing expressions at once, because then
the BUILD_INTERFACE will always be favored if both are present, even
if INSTALL_INTERFACE appears first.
This was affecting the behavior of install(EXPORT) because the
INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES contained entries like
/foo/include;$<INSTALL_INTERFACE:/bar/include>
As the INSTALL_INTERFACE always evaluates to '0', it always needs
to be preprocessed properly.
Since commit e03f83f3 (ProcessorCount test: fix path to cmsysTestsCxx
executable, 2013-01-24) the directory references a target that is not
built when BUILD_TESTING is OFF. It makes no sense to add tests without
BUILD_TESTING anyway.
While at it, use add_subdirectory instead of subdirs to add CMakeTests.

Do not use PROJECT_BINARY_DIR before it is defined. If it is not
defined when needed, fail with an error message suggesting that the
project() command be invoked first.
If CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM is not set fail with an error message instead of
crashing. Suggest calling project() or enable_language() first to
ensure that CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM is set.
Move the ErrorsOFF/ON common logic from CMakeLists.txt into an
ErrorsCommon file to allow other test cases to be added that do not use
the Errors test logic.
Commit 79568f95 (automoc: Add source file to target early to set the
linker language, 2013-02-20) changed automoc initialization to a two
step process. In the first step, the generated source file was added
to the target, which allows the link language to be determined.
However, this bypassed the check for the availability of Qt itself.
At build-time the automoc file could not be generated because the moc
tool was not available to create it.
The solution is to only add the automoc file to the target if Qt is
found.
The CMake language implicitly flattens lists so a ";" in a list element
must be escaped with a backslash. List expansion removes backslashes
escaping semicolons to leave raw semicolons in the values. Teach
ExternalData_Add_Test and ExternalData_Expand_Arguments to re-escape
semicolons found in list elements so the resulting argument lists work
as if constructed directly by the set() command.
For example:

Note that it is not possible to make ExternalData_Add_Test act exactly
like add_test when quoted arguments contain semicolons because the CMake
language flattens lists when constructing function ARGN values. This
re-escape approach at least allows test arguments to have semicolons.
While at it, teach ExternalData APIs to not transform "DATA{...;...}"
arguments because the contained semicolons are non-sensical.

Extend the range of valid target names with the + sign. This character
can commonly be used for target names, such as those containing 'c++'.
Add a test but skip it for Borland and Watcom tools which do not support

This expression is not used, and has a semantic which is not completely
optimal (namely considering utility targets to be targets, though
usually we are interested in linkable targets).
Remove it so that we have more freedom to define better expressions in

We should also check whether the INTERFACE_ variant of a property
is being read, and in the case of the compile definitions, we should
test the _<CONFIG> suffixed variants. That is already available
through the use of the methods.
This way, we use the ALREADY_SEEN optimization when evaluating
the includes of a target in 'external' generator expressions, ie, those
used in a add_custom_command invokation, as opposed to evaluating the
INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES of a target itself via GetIncludeDirectories.
This means that we can use expressions of the form
$<TARGET_PROPERTY:foo,INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES>
to get a list of the interface include directories of foo, including
those coming from dependencies.
We can't have a test of a target which has a single include directory in
its INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES because the shell on the MSYS platforms transforms
a single include directory to include a prefix, which is not what the test
expects. We test a target with two directories instead as a means to
test a target with no link dependencies.
Move the Tests/FPHSA_InvalidFOUND_VAR test case over to a new
RunCMake.FPHSA test with a BadFoundVar case. The RunCMake tests are
built to cover failure cases easily and robustly.
Imported targets are re-exported so that they can be used by the
try_compile generated code with target_link_libraries.
This makes the use of the cmake_expand_imported_targets macro
obsolete. The macro is not able to expand the generator expressions
which may appear in the IMPORTED_LINK_INTERFACE_LIBRARIES content.
Instead it just sees them as 'not a target'.
In the new mode FPHSA now accepts a FOUND_VAR option, which can be set
either to ExactCase_FOUND or UPPERCASE_FOUND, no other values are
accepted. Also add tests for that, including failure.

Previously, GetIncludeDirectories was called before calling
target->AddSourceFile(mocCppSource). Since commit a1c4905f (Use the
link information as a source of compile definitions and
includes., 2013-02-12), the include directories are determined by
the link information.
Valid link information requires that the linker language can be
determined, which depends on the source files languages and the
dependent targets languages. In the case of the no_link_languages
target in the unit test, there are no dependencies and the additional
source file no_link_languages_automoc.cpp is added to the target
at generate-time. That file can be used to determine the linker
language, but it must be added to the target before calling
GetIncludeDirectories.
Extend the Module.ExternalData test to cover a DATA{} reference whose
name contains a space. Skip the case when the native build tool does
not support spaces.
Some make tools do not support spaces inside the source tree paths.
Decide early whether to add tests that depend on support for spaces so
we can use the result in a decision for any test.

This is needed in the case that Automoc is used, as that calls
GetIncludeDirectories, which may cache the resulting include dirs
too early in the generate step.
Also, because the automoc step is so early, we can't cache the
include directories at that point. At that point the build interface
of all dependencies are not populated yet, so we'd be caching the
includes before appending the build interface. Only start caching
when we're definitely generating the buildsystem. At that point, the
includes should be stable.
We still need to invoke AppendBuildInterfaceIncludes
in the GlobalGenerator because the build interface includes affect
mostly the dependencies of targets (such as the automoc targets),
rather than the targets themselves, so the build interface needs
to be appended for all targets before generation is done.
All ctest --build-and-test invocations require the options
--build-generator ${CMAKE_GENERATOR}
--build-makeprogram ${CMAKE_TEST_MAKEPROGRAM}
to be passed and have consistent values, except for a few special cases.
Collect the generator options in a variable instead of repeating the
options everywhere explicitly.
Implement generator toolset selection (cmake -T) for VS >= 10 by setting
the PlatformToolset. Extend the RunCMake.GeneratorToolset test case to
verify CMAKE_GENERATOR_TOOLSET when the generator supports -T.
Since commit 485a940e (VS: Simplify MSVC version reporting, 2012-08-23)
all MSVC version information is detected during the compiler id step
from the actual compiler invoked by generated build systems rather than
hard-coded in VS generators. Therefore we can set the PlatformToolset
in VS >= 10 project files and support toolsets from other VS versions.
Reject the option by default. It will be implemented on a per-generator
basis. Pass the setting into try_compile project generation. Add cache
entry CMAKE_GENERATOR_TOOLSET and associated variable documentation to
hold the value persistently.
Add a RunCMake.GeneratorToolset test to cover basic "-T" option cases.
Verify that CMAKE_GENERATOR_TOOLSET is empty without -T, that -T is
rejected when the generator doesn't support it, and that two -T options
are always rejected.
We need to make sure expressions which evaluate TARGET_PROPERTY:TYPE
multiple times for example get the correct result each time, and
not an empty string instead.
Teach CMakeParseImplicitLinkInfo to convert implicit link library full
paths to a canonical form. This makes them more reproducible in case
different language compiler front-ends add the same library by different
paths e.g. ".../libA.a" and "...//libA.a".
Add a case to the CMake.ImplicitLinkInfo test to cover removal of extra
slashes from both library and directory paths.

Run the test with the ctest --build-noclean option. The test
CMakeLists.txt file already uses file(REMOVE_RECURSE) to clean out
downloaded data anyway. Some file removed by "msdev ... /clean" causes
CMake to re-run in the middle of the build step and file(REMOVE_RECURSE)
wipes out already-generated files.
This establishes that linking is used to propagate usage-requirements
between targets in CMake code. The use of the target_link_libraries
command as the API for this is chosen because introducing a new command
would introduce confusion due to multiple commands which differ only in
a subtle way.
This is both a short form of using a TARGET_DEFINED expression
together with a TARGET_PROPERTY definition, and a way to strip
non-target content from interface properties when exporting.
The test added by commit e378ba5f (Add CTestLimitDashJ test, 2012-12-26)
crashes with CTest compiled by Borland 5.8. There seems to be interaction
among the large number of internal ctest runs. It is probably related to
the undiscovered underlying issue mentioned in commit 32478069 (CTest:
Prevent creation of unbounded number of tests in ctest, 2012-12-18) when
fixing the symptom covered by the CTestLimitDashJ test.
Add --force-new-ctest-process to avoid the crash. Further investigation
will still be needed to identify the true problem.
Use a trailing slash to reference a directory. Require that a list
of associated files be specified to select from within the directory.
One may simply use DATA{Dir/,REGEX:.*} to reference all files but
get a directory passed on the command line.
Refactor use of the ExternalData_SERIES_MATCH value to avoid assuming
that it has no ()-groups that interfere with group indexing.
Extend the Module.ExternalData test to cover this case.
Add a Module.ExternalData test to verify data retrieval and test
argument DATA{} references.
Add a RunCMake.ExternalData test to verify error handling and automatic

These interface-related link-libraries properties are used to determine
the value of the other INTERFACE properties, so we were getting infinite
recursion and segfaults otherwise.

With similar reasoning to the parent commit, as downstreams, we can't
determine what $<CONFIG> generator expressions would be appropriate.
Upstream would have populated the INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES with
config-specific generator expressions, possibly appropriate for
their DEBUG_CONFIGURATIONS. In theory, if we would add include
directories for a DEBUG intent, we would have to match the upstream
configurations for that.
Rather than attempting to discover the appropriate configurations
at this time, simplify the feature instead. The use of IMPORTED targets
with these commands could still be added in the future if targets
would export their DEBUG_CONFIGURATIONS somehow.
This reverts commit 9cfe4f1b76.
It turns out that correctly adding the content to
the IMPORTED_LINK_INTERFACE_LIBARIES_<CONFIG> of an upstream target
from the buildsystem of a downstream project is not simple.
If upstream had added the INTERFACE content, the config-specific
properties would be determined by the DEBUG_CONFIGURATIONS of
upstream.
As downstream, we don't have any information about what
the DEBUG_CONFIGURATIONS of upstream were, so we can't determine
which configuration-specific properties to populate. The best we can do
is add it to all of them or add it to the ones downstream considers to
be DEBUG_CONFIGURATIONS, neither of which is a good solution.
So, removing the porcelain API for that is the best approach. A human
can still determine which properties to populate and use
the set_property API to populate the desired properies.
Another solution to this would be for upstream targets to publish
what they consider DEBUG_CONFIGURATIONS, but that can be added in
a future release.
Otherwise, we get a separate IncludeDirectoriesEntry for each include,
and that causes unnecessary and confusing splitting in the output when
debugging the INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES property.
This new expression allows checking how a policy was set when a target
was created. That information is only recorded for a subset of policies,
so a whitelist is used.
Set CMAKE_SUPPRESS_REGENERATION in the Lib1 and Lib2 projects so that
their .vcxproj files do not contain references to ZERO_CHECK. Such
references do not make sense when using the files in another .sln file.
This does not reduce the effectiveness of the test because real projects
that use include_external_msproject will have their own .vcxproj files not
generated by CMake anyway.
The ExternalProject_Add DEPENDS option adds two types of dependencies.
It adds a target-level build order dependency between the external
project target and the named targets. It also adds a file-level
dependency on the "done" stamp file of the named external project
targets. Targets not created by ExternalProject_Add have no such stamp
file and no _EP_STAMP_DIR property. Prior to commit d14c0243 (Refactor
repeated code into function, 2012-04-26) we unconditionally accepted an
empty stamp dir and generated a dependency on a non-existent file.
After that commit we generate an error that no stamp dir is set.
Skip the file-level dependency when the named dependency is not an
external project target in order to allow this use case. Teach the
ExternalProject test to cover the case.

The Config and IMPORTED_ variants may also contain generator
expressions.
If 'the implementation is the interface', then the result of
evaluating the expressions at generate time is used to populate
the IMPORTED_LINK_INTERFACE_LIBRARIES property.
1) In the case of non-static libraries, this is fine because the
user still has the option to populate the LINK_INTERFACE_LIBRARIES
with generator expressions if that is what is wanted.
2) In the case of static libraries, this prevents a footgun,
enforcing that the interface and the implementation are really
the same.
Otherwise, the LINK_LIBRARIES could contain a generator
expression which is evaluated with a different context at build
time, and when used as an imported target. That would mean that the
result of evaluating the INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES property for
a static library would not necessarily be the 'link implementation'.

3) As the 'implementation is the interface' concept is to be
deprecated in the future anyway, this should be fine.
Make a C executable instead of attempting to make a C++ static
library (and not really succeeding). This was introduced in
commit 894f52f3 (Handle INTERFACE properties transitively for
includes and defines., 2012-09-23).

This allows a dependee to inform a target that it should have its
POSITION_INDEPENDENT_CODE property set to ON, or OFF. The value of

If the headers are in CMAKE_CURRENT_SOURCE_DIR, and the generated headers
are in CMAKE_CURRENT_BINARY_DIR, this is a convenient way to build a target
bar, which depends on foo, just by using target_link_libraries() and adding
the INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES to the INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES of the target
being linked. There will be more-convenient porcelain API to consume the
property in the future.
This makes it possible to use:
target_link_libraries(foo LINK_INTERFACE_LIBRARIES bar)
where foo is an IMPORTED target. Other tll() signatures are not
allowed.
Previously we kept direct link dependencies in OriginalLinkLibraries.
The property exposes the information in the CMake language through the
get/set_property commands. We preserve the OriginalLinkLibraries value
internally to support old APIs like that for CMP0003's OLD behavior, but
the property is now authoritative. This follows up from commit d5cf644a
(Split link information processing into two steps, 2012-11-01).
This will be used later to populate the link interface properties when
exporting targets, and will later allow use of generator expressions
when linking to libraries with target_link_libraries.
Also make targets depend on the (config-specific) union of dependencies.
CMake now allows linking to dependencies or not depending on the config.
However, generated build systems are not all capable of processing
config-specific dependencies, so the targets depend on the union of
dependencies for all configs.

The GeneratorExpression test is split into parts. Some shells can't run
the custom command as it is getting too long.

Add a test that verifies that when ctest -j 4 is called, at most, 4 tests
are executed at any one time.
The test works by running the same script as each of 100 tests. And then setting
up test properties for DEPENDS, RUN_SERIAL, PROCESSORS and COST in order to get
the tests to run in a semi-deterministic ordering, even in parallel. The script
writes a file, sleeps for a bit, and then deletes the file. In the meantime, it
counts files that currently exist, and emits output that triggers a test failure
if the count of files is ever greater than 4.
Prior to the commit that fixed bug #12904, this would result in a failed test
because the output of some of the tests would indicate that more than 4 tests
were running simultaneously.
Now that this issue is resolved, this test will help guarantee that it stays
resolved moving forward.
Previously we hard-coded a list of implicit framework directories but
did not account for CMAKE_OSX_SYSROOT or for changes to the list across
OS X versions. Instead we should automatically detect the framework
directories for the active toolchain.
The parent commit added the "-Wl,-v" option to ask "ld" to print its
implicit directories. It displays a block such as:

Detection may fail on toolchains that do not list their framework
directories, such as older OS X linkers. Always treat the paths
<sdk>/Library/Frameworks
<sdk>/System/Library/Frameworks

/System/Library/Frameworks
as implicit. Note that /System/Library/Frameworks should always be
considered implicit so that frameworks CMake finds there will not
override the SDK copies.
We detect the implicit link directories for the toolchain by adding a
flag to get verbose output from the compiler front-end while linking the
ABI detection binary. Newer OS X toolchains based on Clang do not add
the implicit link directories with -L options to their internal
invocation of "ld". Instead they use a linker that comes with the
toolchain and is already configured with the proper directories.
Add the "-Wl,-v" option to ask "ld" to print its implicit directories.
It displays them in a block such as:

While at it, remove the checks introduced by commit efaf335b (Skip
implicit link information on Xcode, 2009-07-23) and commit 5195a664
(Skip implicit link info for multiple OS X archs, 2009-09-22). Discard
the non-system link directories added by Xcode. Discard all detected
implicit libraries in the multi-architecture case but keep the
directories. The directories are still useful without the libraries
just to suppress addition of explicit -L options for them.
Historically CMake has always expanded ${} variable references in the
values given to include_directories(), link_directories(), and
link_libraries(). This has been unnecessary since general ${}
evaluation syntax was added to the language a LONG time ago, but has
remained for compatibility with VERY early CMake versions.
For a long time the re-expansion was a lightweight operation because it
was only processed once at the directory level and the fast-path of
cmMakefile::ExpandVariablesInString was usually taken because values did
not have any '$' in them. Then commit d899eb71 (Call
ExpandVariablesInString for each target's INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES,
2012-02-22) made the operation a bit heavier because the expansion is
now needed on a per-target basis. In the future we will support
generator expressions in INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES with $<> syntax, so the
fast-path in cmMakefile::ExpandVariablesInString will no longer be taken
and re-expansion will be very expensive.
Add policy CMP0019 to skip the re-expansion altogether in NEW behavior.
In OLD behavior perform the expansion but improve the fast-path
heuristic to match ${} but not $<>. If the policy is not set then warn
if expansion actually does anything. We expect this to be encountered
very rarely in practice.
This new CPack generator produces an *.msi installer file.
Requires having the WiX Toolset installed in order to work
properly.

These tests were not running properly on Visual Studio or
Xcode dashboards before this commit because of the "Debug"
or "Release" sub-directory. The scripts already have
CMAKE_CPACK_COMMAND since the correct CMake executable is
used to run the scripts, so just use that, rather than
passing down an incorrect path to the CPack executable.

The performance feature of only performing a git fetch when needed
during the ExternalProject update step is verified during the test.
A fetch is identified by removing the FETCH_HEAD file and checking for
its reincarnation.
This prepares the numberous tests that occur in the ExternalProjectUpdate
test. The tests were passing previously because a fresh build was not performed.
Tests are added for UPDATE_COMMAND to ensure it is working properly. Testing
infrastructure is added along with tests for Git, but tests for other version
control systems could easily be added in the future.
Build a shared library and an executable linking to it inside the inner
test. Set LINK_DEPENDS_NO_SHARED on the executable. Add a custom
target to compare the output file times. Verify that on the first build
the executable is newer than the library. Then modify a library source
file. Verify that on the second build the library is newer because the
executable did not have a dependency to re-link.
This command works only when building projects using the same
architecture as the running CMake binary. Since it was introduced
CMake has learned macro() and function() to add commands, and the
execute_process() command to launch advanced external computations.
Add a RunCMake.load_command test to verify the warning appears.

d211e5d CMakeTests: allow to call the check_cmake_test macro with a given file
The code handling IMPLICIT_DEPENDS was only able to track a single file,
the latest file replaced earlier files in the list.
The documentation now mentions that the language has to be prefixed to
every file and the test now uses two implicit dependencies, where only
the second is modified to trigger re-running of the custom command.

The file command requires at least two arguments, so guarding the GLOB and
MAKE_DIRECTORY command is not necessary. Changed it for an assert to keep the
protection.

This fixes a regression introduced in commit 290e92ad (Move
GetIncludeDirectories to cmGeneratorTarget, 2012-09-16) which loops over
cmGeneratorTargets before they get created, so the container is empty.
Content which is incomplete as a generator expression could cause
segfaults by advancing an iterator beyond end() and dereferencing
it. Such incomplete generator expressions should be treated as
plain text instead.
The rationale is similar to that in commit b3d8f5da (GenEx: Parse comma
after colon tokens specially, 2012-10-04), in that colon tokens should
not be parsed as identifier-argument delimiters after the first colon.
Otherwise the comma is treated as plain text by ParseContent.
$<STREQUAL:,> should be valid and true.
$<STREQUAL:,something> should be valid and false.
$<STREQUAL:,,> should be non-valid as it is 3 parameters.
$<STREQUAL:something,,> should be non-valid as it is 3 parameters.
Additionally, this allows reporting the correct error for other
expressions. For example $<TARGET_PROPERTY:,> should be invalid
because it has an empty target and empty property. It shouldn't
attempt to read the property ',' on the 'implicit this' target.

Generator expressions for comparing strings, evaluating
strings as booleans, and for creating literal right-angle-brackets
and commas are added. Those may be needed in some cases
where they appear in literals.
When more than one value is given to the NAMES option this command by
default will consider one name at a time and search every directory for
it. Add a NAMES_PER_DIR option to tell this command to consider one
directory at a time and search for all names in it.
In Tests/CMakeOnly/find_library/CMakeLists.txt generalize the
test_find_library macro and move the lib64 substitution logic to a new
test_find_library_subst macro.
This enables changing the name and output folder of the debug symbol
files produced by MS compilers.

On OS X if the user-provided flags do not include -isysroot and
CMAKE_OSX_SYSROOT is defined then add the proper -isysroot flag to the C
compiler invocation we use to generate the .s file.
Make the EXPECTED_HASH option take only a single value instead of two to
avoid handling sub-keyword arguments. This is also consistent with
URL_HASH in ExternalProject.
The expressions may be parsed and then cached and evaluated multiple
times. They are evaluated lazily so that literals such as ',' can be
treated as universal parameter separators, and can be processed from
results without appearing literally, and without interfering with the
parsing/evaluation of the entire expression.
Extend the number of components tested by
if(... VERSION_LESS ...)
if(... VERSION_EQUAL ...)
if(... VERSION_GREATER ...)
from 4 to 8. The latter is a more extreme maximum.
In commit 485a940e (VS: Simplify MSVC version reporting, 2012-08-23) we
accidentally flipped the 0/1 values of MSVC_IDE. Flip them back and
teach the CheckCompilerRelatedVariables test to check the variable.

At the top of a build tree we configure inside the CMakeFiles directory
files such as "CMakeSystem.cmake" and "CMake<lang>Compiler.cmake" to
save information detected about the system and compilers in use. The
method of detection and the exact results store varies across CMake
versions as things improve. This leads to problems when loading files
configured by a different version of CMake. Previously we ignored such
existing files only if the major.minor part of the CMake version
component changed, and depended on the CMakeCache.txt to tell us the
last version of CMake that wrote the files. This led to problems if the
user deletes the CMakeCache.txt or we add required information to the
files in a patch-level release of CMake (still a "feature point" release
by modern CMake versioning convention).
Ensure that we always have version-consistent platform information files
by storing them in a subdirectory named with the CMake version. Every
version of CMake will do its own system and compiler identification
checks even when a build tree has already been configured by another
version of CMake. Stored results will not clobber those from other
versions of CMake which may be run again on the same tree in the future.
Loaded results will match what the system and language modules expect.
Rename the undocumented variable CMAKE_PLATFORM_ROOT_BIN to
CMAKE_PLATFORM_INFO_DIR to clarify its purpose. The new variable points
at the version-specific directory while the old variable did not.
Because the main file for the dummy-executable and the actual compile
test were both called main.cpp, they were overwriting each other during
in-source builds.
There is no need to do so. Be consistent with include directories and
ensure uniqueness.
This requires changing the API of the cmLocalGenerator::AppendDefines
method, and changing the generators to match.
The test unfortunately can't test for uniqueness, but it at least verifies
that nothing gets lost.
In commit b237dbd8 (Xcode: Fix object library references in
multi-project trees, 2012-08-03) we accidentally enabled CXX in the
subdiretories of this test by invoking project() with only one argument.
The top-level directory of the test enables only C, so do this in the
subdirectories too.
Add options HG_REPOSITORY and HG_TAG to specify an external project
hosted in a Mercurial repository. Teach ExternalProject to clone the
repository and update from it. Extend the ExternalProject test to try a
Mercurial repository when hg is available.
This expression evaluates to '1' or '0' to indicate whether the build
configuration for which the expression is evaluated matches tha named
configuration. In combination with the "$<0:...>" and "$<1:...>"
expressions this allows per-configuration content to be generated.
Add generator expressions that combine and use boolean test results:
$<0:...> = empty string (ignores "...")
$<1:...> = content of "..."
$<AND:?[,?]...> = '1' if all '?' are '1', else '0'
$<OR:?[,?]...> = '0' if all '?' are '0', else '1'
$<NOT:?> = '0' if '?' is '1', else '1'
These will be useful to evaluate (future) boolean query expressions and
condition content on the results. Include tests and documentation.
Since commit 571dc748 (Recognize Clang C and C++ compilers, 2010-05-17)
we recognize Clang C and C++ support. Add Compiler/Clang-ASM.cmake to
enable use of Clang for ASM too. Also teach Assembler test to try Clang
as an assembler.

After conversion of Modules .cmake files to lower case the
FAIL_REGULAR_EXPRESSION for this test matched warnings in modules other
than the test line itself. Make the pass and fail regular expressions
specific to the file containing the lines they are testing.
Ancient versions of CMake required else(), endif(), and similar block
termination commands to have arguments matching the command starting the
block. This is no longer the preferred style.

In cmGlobalXCodeGenerator::Generate we generate a .xcodeproj for each
directory in the tree containing a project() command. First we
iteratively use SetGenerationRoot to add "ALL_BUILD" and other targets
to each project. This leaves "CurrentProject" set to the last project
when we invoke cmGlobalGenerator::Generate, which is not the same as the
top-level project if any subdirectories invoke the project() command.
When cmGlobalGenerator::Generate reaches CreateGeneratorTargets it
constructs cmGeneratorTarget and calls ComputeTargetObjects exactly once
per target. In this context the value of CurrentProject is undefined so
we cannot pass it to GetObjectsNormalDirectory. Use "$(PROJECT_NAME)"
instead so it will adapt automatically to each project.
Also teach Tests/ObjectLibrary to cover this case.

When a search path contains multiple "lib/" instances we previously
converted all or none. This fails for cases where only some of the
multiple instances must be converted. Teach AddArchitecturePaths to
generate all combinations that exist. Uncomment these cases in the
CMakeOnly.find_library test now that they work.
Add a "CMakeOnly.find_library" test covering various cases involving
lib->lib64 (non-)conversion. Comment out cases involving mixed path
components "lib" and "lib64", such as lib/A/lib64 and lib64/A/lib, as
these are known to be broken currently.
Previously CMake silently accepted the empty string and added a bogus
dependency on the current directory. Instead warn about the empty file
name and ignore it. We cannot make this an error because there may be
existing projects that accidentally depend on the old behavior.
Add a RunCMake.include test to cover this case.
Otherwise when linking 'CustomCommand' some linkers report

cpack was used to get the list of available i.e. ACTIVE CPack generators
in the CMake tests suite. This was done in order to get dynamically
available CPack generators like DEB or RPM that may or may not be
available on some platform like MacOSX depending on the fact that
some command are installed or not. We may do that but not during
initial configuration.
The current patch fixes the problem and we may do better in the future
like configuring CPack tests later.
Since commit e1409ac5 (Support building shared libraries or modules
without soname, 2012-04-22) CMake crashes on the code
add_library(foo SHARED foo.nolang)
because the logic to lookup the language's soname flag was moved from
cmTarget::GetLibraryNames to cmMakefile::GetSONameFlag without its check
for a NULL language. Restore the check for NULL.
Add RunCMake.Languages test to cover language error cases like this one.
If the user has configured 'core.autocrlf' and 'core.safecrlf' then
'git submodule add' will fail to 'git add' the '.gitmodules' file because
it has LF newlines, at least as of Git 1.7.11. Disable 'core.safecrlf'
in our test repository to avoid the problem.

Use CXXFLAGS in the makefile's link rule since it invokes the C++
compiler front-end. Retool the makefile not to require GNU Make. Using
backticks instead of $(shell ...) is safe so long as one guards against
the possibility of backslashes getting inside the backticks, so use
temporary files and shell variables to avoid them.

CMAKE_SHARED_LIBRARY_<lang>_FLAGS has flags on various platforms for a
variety of purposes that are correlated with shared libraries but not
exclusive to them. Refactor generation of these flags to use new
purpose-specific platform variables

Activate the DLL flags specifically for shared libraries. Add a new
POSITION_INDEPENDENT_CODE target property to activate PIC/PIE flags, and
default to true for shared libraries to preserve default behavior.
Initialize the new property from CMAKE_POSITION_INDEPENDENT_CODE to
allow easy global configuration in projects.
Although the default behavior is unchanged by this refactoring, the new
approach ignores CMAKE_SHARED_LIBRARY_<lang>_FLAGS completely. We must
leave it set in case projects reference the value. Furthermore, if a
project modifies CMAKE_SHARED_LIBRARY_<lang>_FLAGS it expects the new
value to be used. Add policy CMP0018 to handle compatibility with
projects that modify this platform variable.
Add a PositionIndependentCode test on platforms where we can get
meaningful results.
Store in new platform variables
CMAKE_${lang}_COMPILE_OPTIONS_PIC
CMAKE_${lang}_COMPILE_OPTIONS_PIE
flags for position independent code generation.
In almost all cases, this means duplication of the
CMAKE_SHARED_LIBRARY_${lang}_FLAGS for the _PIC case and using the
assumed pie equivalent for the _PIE case. Note that the GNU compiler
has supported -fPIE since 3.4 and that there is no -fPIC on GNU for
Windows or Cygwin.
There is a possibility that the _PIE variables are not correct.
However, as there is no backwards compatibility to be concerned about
(as the POSITION_INDEPENDENT_CODE property is not used anywhere yet),
the current state suffices.
cmcldeps wraps cl and adds /showInclude before calling cl.
It parses the output of cl for used headers, drops system
headers and writes them to a GCC like dependency file.
cmcldeps uses ATM ninja code for process handling,
but could be ported later to SystemTools.

Teach the Plugin test to check that the NO_SONAME target property works
as documented. Check that the IMPORTED targets are written with the
correct properties. When readelf is available use it to check the
actual binary files for SONAME fields.
Add "RunCMake.include_external_msproject" test to use the TYPE, GUID, and
PLATFORM options to include_external_msproject. Since projects with
custom types and platforms cannot be loaded without special VS plugins
validate the results by directly parsing the generated solution (.sln).

Look for a <SubTest>-check.cmake script and load it to check side
effects of the sub test. Provide it with the test source and build tree
paths in variables. Check for a failure message in a result variable.
Since commit ed1ea24c (Fix INSERT to allow inserting to empty list,
2006-05-15) the list command allows insertion into an empty list at
index 0. Fix rejection of insertion at non-zero (negative) indices to
present an error message instead of crashing.
While at it, fix the error message of the GET and REMOVE_AT operations
when the list is empty to not present a bogus allowed range.
Add a "RunCMake.list" test to cover failure cases on empty lists.
This does not really test that the bug is fixed, but at least it makes
it easy to check manually whether the bug is there or not.
I have to see whether I can build a test which does test that
a target is not rebuilt everytime.

Use "file:///..." instead of "file:////..." when the file system path
starts in a slash. Commit 0916cc88 (CTest.UpdateHG: Fix repo URL for
local filesystem, 2012-03-02) added a third slash after "file://"
unconditionally. This worked for many file systems but not on Cygwin
where "file:////cygdrive/..." looks like "file://" followed by a network
file path "//cygdrive/...". Add the slash only if the file system path
does not already start with one.
Our only expectation of version number variables should be that
they begin with a decimal digit for VERSION_LESS, VERSION_EQUAL
and VERSION_GREATER comparison purposes. If people put extra
blah blah after a version number like "1.2.3 (this is some super
special extra information about our funky proprietary build of
the official 1.2.3 release)" then we should be ok with that.
So: now we have the following expectations for version number
variable content for the purposes of the AllFindModules test:

The Watcom compiler interprets "-DB" as option
-db generate browsing information
so define "A_DEF" and "B_DEF" instead of just "A" and "B".
Skip CMAKE_SHARED_LIBRARY_C_FLAGS for Watcom because it is set to
-bd build Dynamic link library
which adds a DLL entry point to each object.
Commit 9a6ff950 (Fix for bug where VS2010 did not use .obj files,
2011-04-01) assumed that if an external object is GENERATED that it is
the output of a custom command in the current target. If it is
generated by another target then VS will not automatically include the
external object in the current target. This bug was preserved by the
refactoring in the parent commit.
Instead use <None> for external objects generated by a custom command in
the current target and <Object> for all other external objects. Update
the ExternalOBJ test to cover this case.

Reference OBJECT libraries for inclusion in targets that have no other
sources to verify that the linker language propagates correctly from the
object libraries. Test with a STATIC library, a SHARED library, and an
EXECUTABLE target. Use the static and shared libraries each in
executables that end up using the object library symbols.
In VS 6, 7, and 7.1 add a dummy object file to convince the IDE to build
the targets without sources. In Xcode add a dummy source file to
convince it to build targets without sources.
Teach the RunCMake.ObjectLibrary test to verify that languages used in
an OBJECT library are propagated to targets that use it so that the
languages can be included in link analysis.
Add "RunCMake.ObjectLibrary" test to verify that unsupported use cases
are rejected with errors:
* An OBJECT library may not reference another object library
* An OBJECT library may not be referenced in target_link_libraries
* An OBJECT library may not contain non-compiling sources
* An OBJECT library may not have pre/post build/link commands
* An OBJECT library may not be installed, exported, or imported
Also verify that invalid $<TARGET_OBJECTS:...> expressions are
diagnosed.
Add "ObjectLibrary" test to build and use OBJECT libraries. Build

The CMakeCommands.build_command test performs output/error checking

2012-02-28) added a sample test that covers failure cases.
Generalize the above to create new "RunCMake" test infrastructure that
can run CMake multiple times for a single project with different
variations and check for expected result/stdout/stderr. Allow for both
successful and failing CMake project configuration cases. This will be
useful to test error messages and failure behavior.

The previous commit, df19b9ca, assumed that the corresponding
_UNICODE functionality in the VS6 generator actually worked.
That turns out not to be the case. Unicode definition does not
actually suppress _MBCS definition, so neither does this new
code...
Don't test it here, since the patch submitter for _SBCS does
not need VS6 support.
If somebody needs _UNICODE and _SBCS support to suppress the
definition of _MBCS in the VS6 generator, it is work yet to do.

The MSYS cvs tool interprets "c:/" as a "machine:" name for SSH. Detect
the MSYS cvs by looking for the string "msys" in the executable file

We no longer support CVS checkouts from the Git repository.
Drop the case from the CheckSourceTree test. This will also
prevent the test from running and failing when CVS is found
but Git is not.
Add a "CMakeCommands.find_package" test to run CMake on a bunch of cases
in which find_package fails. Check that the process return code and
warning/error messages are as expected. Record expected test output in
corresponding files for reference by the check. These files will also
serve as a reference for the message text in each case.
${CMake_SOURCE_DIR} and ${CMake_BINARY_DIR} cannot be embedded into regex
directly. If they contain special regex metacharacters like +, the regex
will break. So just escape such metacharacters with a backslash before
embedding the path into the regex.
The issue affected the following tests: CTestTestConfigFileInBuildDir1 and
CTestTestConfigFileInBuildDir2.
Eliminate callers of cmMakefile::GetIncludeDirectories.
All callers of GetIncludeDirectories should go through the local generator
object.
Only the local generator calls cmTarget::GetIncludeDirectories directly.

Add the function cmake_expand_imported_targets() to expand imported
targets in a list of libraries into their on-disk file names for a
particular configuration. Adapt the implementation from KDE's
HANDLE_IMPORTED_TARGETS_IN_CMAKE_REQUIRED_LIBRARIES which has been in
use for over 2 years. Call the function from all the Check*.cmake
macros to handle imported targets named in CMAKE_REQUIRED_LIBRARIES.

For all current build machines the modules FindPkgConfig, FindFreetype, and
FindLibXslt return a version number. Enforce this to early catch when this
is not always the case.
This did not work because find_library() did only treat the given name as
complete filename if is matched "PREFIX.*SUFFIX":
find_library(MYLIB libfoo.so.2)
Now it is also taken as a whole if the name matches "PREFIX.*SUFFIX\..*".
If a variable exists called CMAKE_PROJECT_<projectName>_INCLUDE,
the file pointed to by that variable will be included as the last step
of the project command.
For Visual Studio using the Preprocessor Define _SBCS. This behavior
is similar to the way that _UNICODE and _MBCS work already.
Added tests to confirm this behavior.
We do not yet support "make install" in the external project case.
Document this explicitly in the interface. Require the caller to use an
option to "disable" the unsupported behavior. This will allow us to add
the behavior by default in the future without clobbering existing
projects that handle the installation themselves.
cmake_add_fortran_directory uses imported targets when using the
mingw fortran compiler. This change makes those targets global
in scope so they act just like the real targets that exist when
a fortran compiler exists and regular add_subdirectory is used.
The SunPro compiler does not add the fortran runtime library when
creating a shared fortran library. Link to the SunPro Fortran runtime
libraries explicitly.
Fix the implementation to allow full paths with spaces. Change the
interpretation of relative paths to be with respect to the current binary
directory. This matches the convention used in ExternalProject. Test
both full and relative paths in the VSGNUFortran test.
This patch adds a new module that allows for easy integration of MinGW
gfortran and the Visual Studio compiler. It is done in a function called
cmake_add_fortran_subdirectory. The patch also includes a test for this
feature.
Define a "check_language(<lang>)" macro to test whether <lang> can be
enabled. Cache the result in CMAKE_<lang>_COMPILER. Add a test case

Since commit 183b9509 (Follow all dependencies of shared library private
dependencies, 2011-12-14) we honor LINK_INTERFACE_LIBRARIES when
following dependent shared libraries. The link interface properties may
form a cycle if set incorrectly by a project. Furthermore, the property
LINK_DEPENDENT_LIBRARIES may form a cycle if set incorrectly by hand
(though CMake should never generate one). In either case, do not follow
the cycle forever when following the dependent shared library closure.
We only need to add dependency edges to the constraint graph once.
Add "LinkInterfaceLoop" test to cover this case.
Some tests only need to run CMake to configure and generate a build
tree, but not actually perform the build. Add a new "Tests/CMakeOnly"
directory dedicated for this purpose. Add a helper script to drive each
test by creating a fresh build tree and running CMake on it. Add macro

This test belongs in the CMakeLibTests test driver executable which
correctly links to CMakeLib. Fix incorrect library link order in the
Complex tests exposed by this change.
The two test sources must remain identical. Apply to ComplexOneConfig
the change that commit f578381e (Fix vs2010 project generation error
when HEADER_FILE_ONLY is set, 2010-12-20) made to Complex.
This adds a test that uses two project commands in the same CMakeLists.txt
file. It also adds a fix so that cmake --build will work in that case.
The fix sets the name of the last project command in the top level
CMakeLists.txt in the cache variable CMAKE_PROJECT_NAME. This variable
is used by cmake --build to find the project name.
Since commit 38aab379 (Set CMAKE_<lang>_COMPILER_ID for VS generators,
2011-09-02) the VS IDE generators set the C and C++ compiler id to MSVC
and the Fortran compiler id to Intel. This caused the Fortran test to
fail compatible compiler detection because the if() test
"${CMAKE_C_COMPILER_ID}" MATCHES "MSVC"
is evaluated as the "var MATCHES regex" signature which evaluates the
compiler id "MSVC" as a variable which is defined to 1 which does not
match "MSVC".
Combine tests for non-identical but compatible compiler vendors into a
single regex match whose left hand side will not be defined as a
variable.
In cmComputeLinkDepends we compute the transitive closure of private
shared library dependencies. When a shared library is added to this
closure we must follow all of its dependencies whether they are private
or public. Previously we only followed the private dependencies. Fix
the implementation to follow the public dependencies too. Also extend
the ExportImport test to cover this case.
automoc now defaults to strict mode, also with Qt4, i.e. it behaves as
the documentation says by default. I also inverted the switch
CMAKE_AUTOMOC_STRICT_MODE to CMAKE_AUTOMOC_RELAXED_MODE.
Docs and test adapted accordingly.

Teach CMakePlatformId.h to construct an "INFO:compiler_version[]" string
literal from macros COMPILER_VERSION_(MAJOR|MINOR|PATCH|TWEAK) to be
defined in CMake(C|CXX)CompilerId.(c|cpp) for each compiler. Provide
conversion macros DEC() and HEX() to decode decimal or hex digits from
integer values. Parse the version out of the compiler id binary along

This test will fail to get a proper version number if running on a (e.g.
German) localized system because the regular expression used to match the
Subversion version output does not match. Instead of duplicating code just
remove the local test altogether and use the version that FindSubversion.cmake
already detects.
Since the export() command needs to know the final location of a target
in the build tree we cannot allow properties affecting the location or
name of a target file to be set after the target is passed to export().
Fix a violation of this rule in the SimpleInstall test.

InstallRequiredSystemLibraries does not install any dlls when
used with VS 6 dashboards. Modify the ValidateBuild script to
expect only 1 file when building with VS 6.
Using "-DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=<INSTALL_DIR>" does not work when
<INSTALL_DIR> evaluates to a long enough string. However, using
"-DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX:PATH=<INSTALL_DIR>" does work, even with
the longer strings. So: make sure to include the ":PATH" when using
this construct with ExternalProject calls so that they may install
to the proper location on VS 6 builds. All existing calls that match
"CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX.*INSTALL_DIR" include the ":PATH" after this
commit.

The mfc app in the test was generated by the VS 7.1 wizard,
and due to changes in VS since then, the values used for WINVER
and _WIN32_WINNT caused compile errors when built with VS 10
or later. Change them to values appropriate for targeting
Windows XP or later when building with VS 10 or later.

The MFC test's mfc1 directory was a "VS-MFC-wizard-generated"
starter MFC app, using VS 7.1 as the generator. There's one define
used in the generated rc file that was not available back in the
VS6 days... Put a conditional define in here based on _MSC_VER
to enable the test app to build on VS6 dashboards.
Build a simple, do-nothing VS 7.1 MFC wizard generated app
with CMake.
Build it two different ways via ExternalProject, one with
CMAKE_MFC_FLAG set to 1 for linking to MFC statically, and
one with CMAKE_MFC_FLAG set to 2 for linking to the shared
MFC dlls.
Validate that the install tree of the static build has only
one *.exe file in it and nothing else. Also validate that the
install tree of the shared library build has multiple files in
it (no less than 3) and that they are only of the expected types
*.exe, *.dll and *.manifest.
This commit does not address the issue reported in #11213,
it merely adds a test that may be used to show that the
bug report is valid. After this commit, the MFC test should
fail on any dashboard machines that have MSVC defined, but
cannot build an MFC app. We can then analyze that failure
data as input to solving the issue.
Provide the ability to configure CTest with settings different from the ones
available in the source tree by checking first if CTestConfig.cmake
exists in the build tree.
The motivation is to allow build system checking out external project to
test and/or package them and submit the associated results to a different
dashboard than the one specified (or not) in the source of the external
project.
For example, the build system of Slicer can checkout, build, test
and package what I will call "extensions". These extensions can be developed
by third parties who can test and submit to their own dashboard / project.
When checked out by Slicer build system, the default dashboard can now be
overwritten by adding a custom CTestConfig.cmake to the build directory.
And if not overwritten, it would avoid to create CTestConfig.cmake within
the source checkout of the extension.
Older svn versions do not have the --depth option for "svn add".
Fortunately we do not need it for versions that old. Look for the
option and use it only when available.
The test adds a subdirectory with
svn add subdir
svn add ... subdir/foo.txt subdir/bar.txt
Subversion 1.7 fails on the second command with
svn: warning: W150002: '.../subdir/foo.txt' is already under version control
svn: warning: W150002: '.../subdir/bar.txt' is already under version control
svn: E200009: Could not add all targets because some targets don't exist
because it considers adding an already-versioned file to be an error.
Avoid the problem by using
svn add --depth=empty subdir
to add the subdirectory without the files it contains.
This fixes#12533.
Before automoc did not check the header if the source file contained a
statement, now it does.
Additionally, moc is now only run on explicitely listed headers which
contain a Q_OBJECT macro.

BSD make doesn't use -v for printing its name and version, and so
complains on stderr that this is a bad command line option, used
in Tests/FindPackageModeMakefileTest/CMakeLists.txt .
Silence stderr to make that ugly output go away.

On some systems which contribute nightly builds there were strange
errors which seemed to hint that the installed Qt4 is not usable/
not usable with this compiler. So first check whether it works,
and only if this was successful, enable the test.

The makefile used in the test uses $(shell ...), which is
AFAIK a GNU extension, and will probably not work e.g. with OpenBSD make.
According to the FreeBSD make manpage their make has a != assignment,
which seems to do something similar, but I don't have such a system
around for testing.
Also, the point of this test is not to write a portable makefile,
but to check whether cmake --find-package prints a correct string.

The commit message for the previous commit was wrong, it should
have been: fix the test by using $(shell ...) syntax instead
of backticks in the Makefile.
With backticks I couldn't get the quoting right.
Printing -I"/some/path with space" did not work, the compiler
complained that there is not file "with". Also backslashes in
different numbers did not make it work.

For custom commands in VS2010 Fortran projects the INTDIR variable
is different than in the rest of the solution because Intel
fortran still uses the old VS project files even in VS2010. So,
we replace $(Configuration) directly in the project files. I have also
added a FortranOnly test that tests this feature and is run on any
generator that has Fortran abilities.
But only if it exists at the default location:
C:/MinGW/bin/libgmp-10.dll
This is so that the pop-up dialog about not being able to load
that dll does not hang the test when there's nobody watching.
Generated Update.xml file is larger than the previously
hard-coded limit of 4096. Introduce variable max_update_xml_size
and bump it up to 16k for reliable test runs.
Thanks to Pau Garcia i Quiles for the inspiration for the patch.
I've tweaked it a bit compared to what's in the bug tracker: this
commit does not allow empty global variable names.
I also added usage of the new feature to an existing test. Although
it has no effect on the resulting Visual Studio projects, you can
verify that the VSResource test produces a non-empty globals section
in the generated .vcproj(x) files.

When add_test(NAME) is called without the CONFIGURATIONS argument then
the test is intended to run in any configuration. In multi-config
generators like the VS IDE and Xcode tests created by add_test(NAME) can
only be run when testing a known configuration (otherwise there is no
way to generate the test command line). If no test command line is
known for a particular configuration, or if no configuration is given to
ctest, report the test as not run instead of silently skipping it.
Also fix CMake's own TestsWorkingDirectory test invocation to correct a
previously silent failure exposed by this change.

Use the "-X -v" flag to the Absoft front-end to pass "-v" to the gcc it
invokes under the hood. Teach CMakeParseImplicitLinkInfo to exclude
linker version lines from consideration as link lines. Fix parsing of
Sun's linker search path option "-Y..." to avoid conflict with the Mac
linker option "-Y<num>".
The Sun compiler does not provide the proper vector constructor to
initialize it from an iterator pair of a non-matching type. Extend the
ParseUnixCommandLine API to provide a vector of the proper type so no
conversion is needed.
Many compilers we support do not provide the at() member of std::map.
Use the workaround added by commit a7e7a04a (Fix run_compile_commands
build on Apple GCC 3.3, 2011-05-16) for all compilers.

Do not use file(TO_NATIVE_PATH) to compute the value to store in the
registry. It is meant for constructing values to be put in shells.
Since find_package() can use the value with CMake-normalized slashes do
not bother with any conversion.
Teach the FindPackagTest to try creating the appropriate HKLM system
package registry value. If it works then add a test to verify that
find_package() reads it as expected. Then delete the value to cleanup.
Which adds --non-interactive and --trust-server-cert to the svn
checkout and update command lines. This allows ExternalProject
clients to pull from an https:// based svn server even though
the server may not have a valid or trusted certificate.
Caveat emptor: I would NOT recommend using this except as a
short-term work-around. Rather, the server should have a valid,
trusted certificate, or the client should be using "http" instead
of "https".
Some find modules call find_package recursively to locate a package
configuration file for the package instead of searching for individual
pieces. Commit 79e9b755 (Help recursive find_package calls in modules,
2008-10-03) taught find_package to forward the version number and EXACT
arguments through the recursive call automatically. Do the same for the
component list.

For VS2010 if a precompiled .obj file was the output of a custom commad,
it was used as part of the build. If it was not, then VS did not
use it as part of the build. This commit updates the test to check
for this issue, and fixes the problem. This fixes bugs #0011891 and
The AMD64 ABI document http://www.x86-64.org/documentation/abi.pdf
does specify that 64bits binary libraries should end up in <prefix>/lib64
and 32bits ones in <prefix>/lib. All but debian based distros do so,
and some like OpenSUSE even enforce the rule when packaging with RPM
and refuse to build the RPM if this is not the case.
After some discussion (see the bug notes) we cannot do that behind
the scene and the current fix supposes that the user shall use
the CMAKE_INSTALL_LIBDIR variables content in its INSTALL rules if
he wants to put the lib in the right place. CMAKE_INSTALL_LIBDIR
shall have the appropriate value depending on the Linux distribution
found and 32/64bitness of the host.
The cross-compiling case (even 32bits compile on a 64bits host)
is not handled.
All commands accepting file paths should normalize the slashes so that
the string-represented names can be compared reliably. The commands
add_library and add_executable have done this for years. We taught
add_custom_command to normalize its OUTPUT names in commit a75a0a14
(Normalize add_custom_command OUTPUT names, 2010-12-15). We handled a
special case of the DEPENDS option in commit 7befc007 (Handle trailing
slashes on add_custom_command DEPENDS, 2011-01-26).
Teach both add_custom_command and add_custom_target to normalize slashes
of DEPENDS files up front. This approach subsumes the above-mentioned
special case so remove the one line added for it but keep its test.
Extend the CustomCommand test to check that slash count mismatches
between custom command OUTPUT and DEPENDS can still be linked correctly.
Also, comment out all "debugging" calls to message() that helped
us interpret the output on other platforms when running on the
dashboard clients.
Using ERROR_QUIET avoids unnecessary stderr output while calling
external tools to determine the processor count. If there's an
error parsing the output, we set the count to 0 anyhow.
Also, the test will fail on a CMake dashboard run if the count
comes back equal to 0.
Now that the code is "done"-ish, remove the debugging output.
Expect no output on stdout or stderr when calling the
ProcessorCount function from now on.
The parent commit 46c0a583 (Enable Java test more carefully on Apple,
2011-03-18) failed to restore the exclusion of Xcode when enabling the
Java test that was originally removed by commit c8f39193 (Avoid problem
reading jni.h on Macs, 2010-10-25). The Xcode generator does not work
with the current Java support at all.
The CTEST_RUN_Java option added by commit c8f39193 (Avoid problem
reading jni.h on Macs, 2010-10-25) was a quick hack to disable the Java
test on Mac machines after an update from Apple created a broken jni.h
symlink. Remove the option and instead test whether jni.h exists as a
readable file before reading it. This restores the original Java test
enabling logic but makes it robust to the broken symlink.
More dev work remains to be done here. Removing test failure
condition until that dev work is complete, so it does not
mask or hide other, more important failures, on the dashboard.

Use a custom command to generate the assembly source file at build time.
Also set CMAKE_VERBOSE_MAKEFILE so the test output contains all the
build rules. These two changes will show the entire .c -> .s -> .o and
final link commands in the test output.
Commit 1f6c6b1c (use CMAKE_C_FLAGS when generating the assembler file,
2011-03-03) added use of CMAKE_C_FLAGS to the assembler generation step.
However, this variable is meant for direct substitution into a shell
command line so we need to parse it to separate the arguments first.
Add "LinkStatic" test that links a static executable against "libm.a".
Pass both "/usr/lib/libm.a" and "-lm" to target_link_libraries to
trigger the link type logic for both cases. If CMake incorrectly
switches the link type to shared for "-lm" then the link will fail.
Commit 6a61a8a5 (Honor module .def files with MinGW tools, 2011-02-21)
enabled use of .def files with GNU tools on Windows. Previously the
Fortran tests's world.def file was used only for the Intel Fortran

CMAKE_LINK_DEF_FILE_FLAG correctly. Set it in the Windows-GNU platform

1: The CTestTestFailedSubmits tests do not need to run the
CTEST_MEMCHECK command. It is covered by the CTestTest2
test. If more coverage *is* required, choose a test that
runs by itself once to add it to... This one gets used
several times in a loop to test submission failure via
the various submission protocols. With memchecking on,
each test here takes 1000 seconds or more on a "fast"
build...
2: Other ctest tests do not need any of the CTEST_MEMORYCHECK_*
variables defined. They don't even call CTEST_MEMCHECK, or
-D NightlyMemCheck, or anything. So: remove the unnecessary
set calls.

To get rc defines to work in the VS10 IDE requires \" when
constructing PreprocessorDefinitions strings. This is different
than defines for cl.

This test was broken by commit b2f308c8 (Add support for windows
resources with mingw/msys, 2010-12-22) because the test does not set a
resource compiler which is now required on MinGW for the 'RC' language.
Use windres as the resource compiler for the test.
Teach the ArgumentExpansion test to expect flattened lists as has always
been the case in the CMake language. Now that the test should pass
enable the failure regex even when CMAKE_STRICT is not on. Replace the
reference to the old ArgumentExpansion test behavior in the workaround
comment in cmMakefile::TryCompile with a full inline explanation.
Some older dashboard machines do not have Rez in /usr/bin
like us modern folk. But most of them will have it in
/Developer/Tools... So make sure we look there.

Control the root directory of the default directory presented to
the end user of an NSIS installer by a CPack variable.
Previously, the value used in the NSIS script was $PROGRAMFILES,
which is equivalent to the "ProgramFiles" environment variable.
That default value is still the same, but now a project may
override the value by setting this new variable.
Previously, it was hard-coded at 1000 seconds. Now it uses
the value of CMAKE_LONG_TEST_TIMEOUT, which has a minimum
value of 1500 seconds, but might have a longer value depending
on the CTEST_TEST_TIMEOUT value of the driving dashboard.
This should help avoid test failures on overloaded dashboard
machines where it really does take that long to finish the
test successfully.

This commit also moves the caller of CreateMenuLinks outside
the "if (cpackPackageExecutables)" block, allowing clients to
use CPACK_NSIS_MENU_LINKS without also having CPACK_PACKAGE_EXECUTABLES

issue described in http://public.kitware.com/Bug/view.php?id=7828

VS6 builds put midl output directly in CMAKE_CURRENT_BINARY_DIR.
Adjust test include_directories to match. Fixes test failure

Some Windows machines actually define HOME in their
environment. And some of them actually put a directory
with a space in the name as the value.
Make sure the HOME value (CMake variable) in this CMakeLists

With this commit, the midl support for VS10 is as
complete as midl support ever was for VS9 and earlier.
The VSMidl test should run on all Visual Studio
generator based dashboards.
CMake no longer sends C++ compiler /D flag values
to the midl compiler in Visual Studio generated
projects. I think if we want to add that in the
future, we should add a way to pass midl compiler
specific flags and perhaps an optional way to add
in the C++ definitions, too. For now, not sending
them along gets past the immediate problem wherein
idl files in a CMake VS generated project just didn't
work at all.
The VSMidl test added in this commit was inspired by
the patch attached to 8165.
The test had to be modified such that it will run in
a directory whose name contains no spaces. There is an
existing bug filed against VS10's midl asking Microsoft
to fix that problem. But for now, the test added in this
commit works by copying the source directory to a location
that avoids spaces in the directory names.

This patch makes include() and find_package() prefer cmake files
located in CMAKE_ROOT over those in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH.
This makes sure that the including file gets that file included
which it expects, i.e. the one from cmake with which it was tested.
It only changes behaviour when such an included file exists both
in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH and in CMAKE_ROOT.
This comes together with a new policy CMP0017, with default
behaviour it behaves as it always did, but warns.
With NEW behaviour it includes the file from CMAKE_ROOT
instead from CMAKE_MODULE_PATH. This fixes (if CMP0017 is set)
building KDE 4.5 with cmake >= 2.8.3.
Also a basic test for this policy in included.
Check CMAKE_POLICY_DEFAULT_CMP<NNNN> for a default when policy CMP<NNNN>
would otherwise be left unset. This allows users to set policies on the
command line when the project does not set them. One may do this to
quiet warnings or test whether a project will build with new behavior
without modifying code. There may also be cases when users want to
build an existing project release using new behavior for policies
unknown to the project at the time of the release.

Add a ValidateBuild.cmake script that runs after the Trilinos
dashboard run is complete. In that script, look for some expected
Trilinos executable files. Run the basic Teuchos unit tests
executable and expect it to return 0 for no errors.

from CMake when variables passed in on the command line go

In vs2010 a bad project file could be generated if a .c or .cxx file
was marked with HEADER_FILE_ONLY, if it was in a library that contained
both c and c++ code. This fixes the error in the code, and adds a test
for this case.
XCode and Visual Studio generators can run from
${EXECUTABLE_OUTPUT_PATH}/${CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE} and determining this at
testing time is not feasible without adding in more
PASS_REGULAR_EXPRESSION's which may create false positives.
Since the parsing code is in cross-platform, generator-agnostic code,
if it passes with Makefiles, it should work with other generators on
other platforms.
The tests-if-CYGWIN topic made a change to Tests/Testing/CMakeLists.txt
in code that the custom-command-generator-expressions topic moved to the
Tests/PerConfig/CMakeLists.txt file. Make the same change to the same
content in the new file. (Only a small part of the file moved so rename
detection did not do this automatically.)

Use "int main(void)" instead of just "int main()" so that compiling with
"gcc -Werror=strict-prototypes" works. Test this check using the flags
"-Werror -Wstrict-prototypes" to work with old GCC versions.
A cycle exists when the DFS returns to the root node, not just when
multiple paths lead to the same node.

Evaluate in the COMMAND arguments of custom commands the generator
expression syntax introduced in commit d2e1f2b4 (Introduce "generator
expressions" to add_test, 2009-08-11). These expressions have a syntax
like $<TARGET_FILE:mytarget> and are evaluated during build system
generation. This syntax allows per-configuration target output files to
be referenced in custom command lines.
Put the source files, build rules, and test scripts for these targets
under Tests/PerConfig and refer to it from Tests/Testing as a
subdirectory. The targets and scripts will be useful in other tests.
Previously the OUTPUT arguments of add_custom_command were not
slash-normalized but those of add_library and add_executable were.
This caused the example
add_custom_command(OUTPUT a//b.c ...)
add_library(... a//b.c ...)
to fail at build time with "no rule to make a/b.c". Fix this and modify
the CustomCommand test to try it.
The NAG Fortran compiler implicitly passes object files by full path to
the linker. Teach CMakeParseImplicitLinkInfo to parse object files that
match some tool-specific regular expression.
A custom command may name a target created by add_custom_target in its
DEPENDS field. Treat this case as a target-level dependency only since
a custom target provides no standard file on which to add a file-level
dependency.

Fix IF(WIN32) guards check for cygwin. Fix checking if the depenency is in a system location to use cygwin style paths on cygwin. Also change GetPrerequisites to switch gp_tool to tools that are very unlikely to be found, ie. dumpbin on Apple and otool on Windows/Unix.
Apple released an update recently in which there
was a broken symlink for jni.h that pointed to
a non-existent file. CMake had trouble configuring
because it encountered an error trying to read
jni.h.
We avoid the problem here by introducing a variable
CTEST_RUN_Java, which defaults to OFF on Macs, that
indicates whether to even attempt finding java, reading
jni.h and adding the "Java" CMake test.
If you would like to test Java on a Mac where the
jni.h symlink is not busted, feel free to pass in
-DCTEST_RUN_Java:BOOL=ON when configuring CMake.
IF(... MATCHES ...) used for comparing directories chokes especially in the case of C:\Program Files (x86)\<blah> because of regex pattern matching. Switched this to use STREQUAL in a loop instead.
Use a longer value as the default timeout (6 hours).
For a per-contract-test timeout value, set ${project}_TEST_TIMEOUT
in the project's RunTest.cmake file. To use a longer value for
all non-specific contract tests, set a CMake cache variable
named CMAKE_CONTRACT_TEST_TIMEOUT_DEFAULT.
All timeout values are in seconds.
Also, patch up last commit to defer evaluation of ENV{HOME}
until EnforceConfig.cmake is included at ctest time. This
allows Windows machines to have "\\" characters in the HOME
environment variable if they want to.
To activate the CSE contract test on a given Linux
machine's CMake dashboard, put
CMAKE_CONTRACT_PROJECTS:STRING=cse-snapshot
in the CMake dashboard's initial cache.
The chosen snapshot does not generate subproject
dependency info right now. That code was in a
previous revision in the CSE's svn repo that
apparently has not been merged into the present cse
git repository master branch. After that is fixed up
in the cse repo, we can update the tag here so that
the snapshot built here can run a sub-project based
dashboard script. For now, it runs as one big build
step, building 'all'.

Visual Studio Express editions do not support solution folders,
so default behavior should be as if USE_FOLDERS global property
is OFF.
Also, allow folder names to be the same as target names: internally,
use a prefix to distinguish folder GUIDs from target GUIDs. Add
a target and folder with the same name in the ExternalProject
test to exercise this code.
For CMake itself, provide a new option CMAKE_USE_FOLDERS that
defaults to ON so that Visual Studio users get a nicely organized
CMake project. Express edition users will have to turn off the
CMAKE_USE_FOLDERS option in order to build CMake in the VS Express
IDE.

The idea is that we can make sure that CMake is staying backwards
compatible by testing projects against CMake as the changes are made
in CMake. Because these tests will take a long time to run, they
will not be enabled by default. Instead, they will be enabled by
putting a cache variable into CMake.
Test still failing on dash1.kitware. Give up on testing
the new arg on MSVC71. Test it with newer nmakes instead.
All other dashboards are fine with -DPATH=c:/posix/path
as the first arg, so keep it except when MSVC71 is true.

The new first arg in the test is the critical one
to prove that the new NMake specific code works.
The additional colons in the middle of the arg
stream work fine everywhere else, but not on
dash1.kitware with Visual Studio 7.1. Just avoid
the failure for now by removing the unnecessary
new args from the test.
The nightly dashboard showed that the following
platforms had difficulties dealing with "bin dir"
and/or "check command line" as directory and
file names:

The solution seems hackish, but it works: for
NMake only, prepend a no-op command before each
real command that begins with ".
This is really a work-around for an NMake problem.
When a command begins with ", nmake truncates the
first argument to the command after the first :
in that arg. It has a parsing problem.
Workaround..., hackish..., but it should solve
the issue for #9963 and its related friends.
Also, modify the CustomCommand test to replicate
the problem reported in issue #9963. Before the
NMake specific code change, the test failed.
Now, it passes. Ahhhhhh.

By default, the FOLDER target property is used to organize
targets into folders in IDEs that have support for such
organization.
This commit adds "solution folder" support to the Visual
Studio generators. Currently works with versions 7 through
10.
Also, use the new FOLDER property in the ExternalProject
test and in the CMake project itself.
This command allows a user to quickly see the list of all available
test labels. The labels are also printed in verbose show only mode,
alongside their corresponding tests.
Strong dependencies (created by add_dependencies) must be honored when
linearizing a strongly-connected component of the target dependency
graph. The initial graph edges have strong/weak labels and can contain
cycles that do not consist exclusively of strong edges. The final graph
never contains cycles so all edges can be strong.
This commit introduces the ability to add custom targets
that correspond to individual ExternalProject steps.
The main motivation behind this new feature is to drive
sub-project based dashboard steps as external projects
with separate targets for update, configure, build and
test output. This makes it easy to construct a ctest -S
script to drive such a dashboard.
With no STEP_TARGETS defined, there are no additional
custom targets introduced, to minimize the chatter in
the target name space. Clients may define STEP_TARGETS
on a per-ExternalProject_Add basis, or at the directory
level by setting the EP_STEP_TARGETS directory property.
When a module is first contributed Kitware has made no modifications on
which to place a copyright. Require the contributor to have a copyright
notice, but not specifically by Kitware.
Add platform configuration variable CMAKE_SYSTEM_IGNORE_PATH and user
configuration variable CMAKE_IGNORE_PATH. These specify a set of
directories that will be ignored by all the find commands. Update
FindPackageTest so that several cases will fail without a functioning
CMAKE_IGNORE_PATH.

assumed that ".git/FETCH_HEAD" exists inside the source tree. Fix the
implementation to handle a work tree using a ".git file" to link to its
repository. Use "git rev-parse --git-dir" to locate the real .git dir.

The CTestTestFailedSubmit-http test was failing on the
hut11 Experimental dashboards with "Empty reply from
server" due to a localhost settings change.
If GIT_EXECUTABLE is not passed in, and is not available from
DartConfiguration.tcl or CTestConfiguration.ini, then make one
more last ditch attempt to get it from Update.xml, if there is
an Update.xml. For dashboards that have successfully done a
ctest_update call, there should be an Update.xml in the Testing
subdir of the binary tree. Parse that file for the git executable
recorded in the <UpdateCommand> element.
And make this test pass on those RogueResearch dashboard machines!
Git's diff-tree format has no '\n'-terminated blank line at the end of
its commit message body block if there are no diff lines. Instead the
message body is terminated by '\0' and there is no diff section. Teach
CTest to parse the format in this case.
If GIT_EXECUTABLE is not passed into the test, but the source
tree is a git checkout, then use GitCommand or UpdateCommand
from the ctest ini file to set its value. Presumably, a dashboard
running the test suite had to have set this properly in order
to do the ctest_update step.
Optionally hide the output of each external project build step by
wrapping its command in a launcher script. Make output available in log
files instead. This simplifies the output of external project builds.
At this point, CTestTest3 causes more problems than it's worth.
It uses CVS to grab a remote (over the network) copy of kwsys
code for testing. This causes some sort of problem nearly every
night on the nightly CMake dashboards. Worse: it causes problems
on different machines on different nights, then the next day, it's
fine again. So: remove this test and monitor the coverage.
If we lose a significant portion of code coverage, I will revert
this commit and re-activate the test. However, if we do not lose
a significant portion of code coverage, I will remove the code
for the test as well as removing it from the CMakeLists.txt file.
Brad King and I discussed this over the last few weeks, and we both
think we have sufficient coverage of all the checkout and update code
in other locally (non-network) based tests.
On the other hand, even if we do take a mild hit on coverage temporarily,
it should be relatively easy to increase our coverage again by adding
bits to those other locally based tests.
The bootstrap script works under MSYS, so test it. Use a launcher batch
file since 'ctest --build-and-test' is a Windows program and will not
honor the shebang line in the script.
Even though this test is checking that the ctest running it can handle
test output without newlines we should run the just-built CMake binary.
This allows the MemCheck test mode to check the correct CMake.
Use 'git fetch' followed by 'git reset' to update the source tree. This
is better than 'git pull' because it can handle a rewritten upstream
branch and does not leave local modifications. After fetch, parse
FETCH_HEAD to find the merge head that 'git pull' would choose to track
the upstream branch. Then reset to the selected head.
In the normal fast-forward case the behavior remains unchanged.
However, now local modifications and commits will be erased, and
upstream rewrites are handled smoothly. This ensures that the upstream
branch is tested as expected.
Teach (create|run)_dashboard_script macros to treat the argument as the
name of a build tree. Append '.cmake' to generate the dashboard script
name. This allows future re-use of the macros for multiple test
scripts.
Use it from ExternalProject and the ExternalProject test's
CMakeLists file rather than having duplicate find_program calls.
Add logic so that we do not try to use *.cmd variants of git
programs when using the MSYS Makefiles generator. Should fix
the last remaining dashboard issue with the new ExternalProject
git support additions.
Also, correct minor problem regarding placement of the local git
repo during test execution. On clean builds, it was being placed
incorrectly because of the ../.. relative reference. Use an absolute
path to place the local git repo in the proper directory, and only
use the relative reference when referring to it.
The Intel C compiler for Linux does not seem to reject any bad flags or
object files on its link lines. Work around the problem by using a
preprocessor #error directive to ensure that BADFLAG appears in the
build output. This does not really achieve the purpose of the tests but
it allows them to pass.
Double quote executable names that may have spaces in them.
Do not run the new git portions of the test on machines that
have git < version 1.6.5 on them.
The Borland librarian actually creates a BADFLAG.obj when the object is
missing the first time! This causes later tests to not reject it.
Instead use a Borland-specific variation on the flag.
Add archives of these file types and add to the test
cases covered in the ExternalProject test.
Also add an "Example" directory in the Tests/ExternalProject
directory containing the canonical simplest example of
ExternalProject usage.
Add a LinkFlags test series to check that these properties work. Since
no link flag is accepted everywhere we test for presence of flags by
adding a bad flag and looking for the complaint in the test output.
Echo results of calling git status before exiting with
an error. Add one special case so that the test may pass
on the dashmacmini2 continuous dashboard, despite a 'git
status' non-zero return code. More logic like this may
be required. I will re-evaluate based on tomorrow's
nightly dashboard runs.
Additionally, output some more information in both cvs
and git cases. When it is a cvs checkout, echo the contents
of CVS/Root and CVS/Repository to the test output. When it
is a git checkout, echo the output of 'git branch -a'.
This will allow us to see more details about any given CMake
source tree right in the CDash results for this test.
Improve FILE(DOWNLOAD ...):
- Add percent complete progress output to the FILE DOWNLOAD
command. This progress output is off by default to
preserve existing behavior. To turn it on, pass
SHOW_PROGRESS as an argument.
- Add EXPECTED_MD5 argument. Verify that the downloaded
file has the expected md5 sum after download is complete.
- Add documentation for SHOW_PROGRESS and EXPECTED_MD5.
When the destination file exists already and has the
expected md5 sum, then do not bother re-downloading
the file. ("Short circuit" return.)
Also, add a test that checks for the status output
indicating that the short circuit behavior is actually
occurring. Use a binary file for the test so that the
md5 sum is guaranteed to be the same on all platforms
regardless of "shifting text file line ending" issues.
Improve ExternalProject:
- Add argument URL_MD5.
- Add verify step that compares md5 sum of .tar.gz file
before extracting it.
- Add md5 check to download step, too, to prevent
unnecessary downloads.
- Emit a warning message when a file is not verified.
Indicate that the file may be corrupt or that no
checksum was specified.
Add the <Email>...</Email> element in Update.xml for each commit
reported. This field was defined by Dart but never really used.
Distributed version control systems use author name and email
instead of a user id, so now it makes sense to use this field.
Some Mac linkers produce the message
"file was built for unsupported file format which is not the
architecture being linked"
for this test. Update the test output regex to match it.
Git does not automatically checkout the matching version of a submodule
when it checks out a new version of the parent project in the work tree.
If the submodule reference changed in the parent project then we were
reporting the submodule path as a local modification. Work around the
problem in ctest_update using "git submodule update" after "git pull".
For projects with no submodules this is a no-op. See issue #10662.
Also add a submodule to the test project for CTest.UpdateGIT to test the
work-around.
For builds from Git repositories, add "-g<commit>" to the end of the
version number. If the source tree is modified, append "-dirty".
For builds from CVS checkouts, add "-cvs-<branch>".
If defined and non-empty, the value of CMAKE_TESTS_CDASH_SERVER should point
to a CDash server willing to accept submissions for a project named
PublicDashboard. On machines that also run a CDash dashboard, set this
variable to "http://localhost/CDash-trunk-Testing" so that the CMake tests
that submit dashboards do not have to send those submissions over the wire.
The CTestSubmitLargeOutput test runs a dashboard that has a test that produces
very large amount of output on stdout/stderr. Since we do not even want to
attempt to send such large output over the wire, this test is off by default
unless the CMAKE_TESTS_CDASH_SERVER server is localhost. This test is expected
to cause a submission failure when sent to CDash. It passes if the submit
results contain error output. It fails if the submit succeeds.
CMAKE_TESTS_CDASH_SERVER: CDash server used by CMake/Tests.
If not defined or "", this variable defaults to the server at
http://www.cdash.org/CDash.
If set explicitly to "NOTFOUND", curl tests and ctest tests that use the
network are skipped.
If set to something starting with "http://localhost/", the CDash is expected
to be an instance of CDash used for CDash testing, pointing to a
cdash4simpletest database. In these cases, the CDash dashboards should be
run first.
Commit "Teach CTest.Update tests to strongly check entries" (2010-02-09)
started checking Update.xml entries strongly. This revealed that some
cvs clients report "U CTestConfig.cmake" during update even though the
file did not change and it selects the same revision. As a result the
test fails with
Update.xml has extra unexpected entries:
Updated{CTestConfig.cmake}
We fix the test to tolerate this particular extra entry without failing.
We wrap the git executable in a shell script that touches one source
file after 'git pull'. This makes the file newer than the index even
though it has not actually changed. If CTest does not refresh the index
properly then the test will fail with a bogus modified file.
Previously these tests just checked for matching file names in the
Update.xml files. Now we check the update types (Updated, Modified, or
Conflicting) and reject unexpected extra entries.
At least one Fortran compiler does not provide a preprocessor symbol to
identify itself. Instead we try running unknown compilers with version
query flags known for each vendor and look for known output. Future
commits will add vendor-specific flags/output table entries.
The PathScale compiler silently accepts unknown options that start in
more than one '-':

We teach the TryCompile to pass a bogus flag with only one '-' instead
of three '-'s for this compiler.
We disable this test because PathScale Fortran mangles module symbols as
"MYSUB.in.MYMODULE" so we cannot interface with it from C. We already
did this for SunPro and MIPSpro.
Makefile dependencies must be escaped using cmLocalGenerator::Convert
with the cmLocalGenerator::MAKEFILE option. This fixes Fortran module
dependencies with spaces in the path. We test the fix by adding a space
to one of the module paths in the Fortran test.
If APPEND is given to ctest_start, it will read the tag from the current existing Testing/TAG file rather than creating a new one based on the current time stamp. This allows a developer to run several dashboard scripts in a row, all of which will share the same tag/stamp/buildid when they finally get submitted to CDash. Now you can split the running of build phases and test phases for the same dashboard row into multiple scripts.
The commit "Make CTestTestTimeout time configurable" added a CMake cache
variable CTestTestTimeout_TIME to configure the length of the timeout
used by the inner CTestTestTimeout test. The reason was to allow users
on slow machines to give this test some extra time without extending the
timeout for everyone. However, Cygwin CMake seems to load slowly enough
that it is worth a longer default timeout for that platform.
The commit "Submit Subversion directory path in Update.xml" added the
element <SVNPath>...</SVNPath> to Update.xml for Subversion work trees.
This commit teaches the CTest.UpdateSVN test to verify the presence of
the element.
We teach CTest to report in a <Revision> element the revision of the
source tree that was tested. This makes sense for all modern VCS tools
because they version the whole tree. We simply omit this element for
CVS because it only versions files. See issue #7541.
We teach ADD_TEST_MACRO to transform names of the form "Namespace.Name"
to the directory "Namespace/Name" and the project name "Name". This
will allow new tests to be better organized.
The test overrides the CMAKE_C_FLAGS and CMAKE_Fortran_FLAGS to test
passing a specific flag to the compiler wrapper scripts. We fix it to
honor any outside flags needed for the real compiler.
The commit "FortranCInterface: Honor language flags in checks" taught
the FortranCInterface module to pass C and Fortran flags into its
detection and verification checks. We improve on the change to allow
the '=' character in the language flags. This requires passing the
cache entry type with the -D options.
We create test FortranC.Flags to try passing per-language flags from a
project into its FortranCInterface detect/verify checks. We wrap the
compilers with scripts that enforce presence of expected flags.
CMake does not enable Fortran for its own build, but it needs to find a
Fortran compiler to know if it is possible to enable Fortran tests.
Previously we searched for a hard-coded list of Fortran compilers which
was duplicated from the CMakeDetermineFortranCompiler.cmake module. We
now run CMake on a small test project that enables the Fortran language
and reports the compiler it found. This represents a more realistic
check of whether the Fortran tests will be able to find a compiler.
Previously our EnforceConfig script that loads at test-time would only
enforce a non-empty CTEST_CONFIGURATION_TYPE for CMake 2.6.2 and lower.
Now we simply always enforce use of a configuration, and select one of
the configurations that was built if none is given.
This is necessary to run tests like CMake.Install that need to know the
configuration with which CMake was built.
We create option CMake_TEST_INSTALL to enable a new CMake.Install test.
It tests running the "make install" target to install CMake itself into
a test directory. We enable the option by default for dashboard builds.
We configure an EnforceConfig.cmake script to load at CTest time.
Previously we loaded it from Tests/CTestTestfile.cmake, but now we load
it from the top level so it applies to all tests.
Xcode 2.x forgets to create the target output directory before linking
the individual architecture pieces of a universal binary for the target
CMakeLibTests. Then it passes the directory to -L and -F options when
linking the and warns that the directory does not exist. We work around
the problem by using a pre-build rule on the target to create the output
directory.
We re-arrange EXECUTABLE_OUTPUT_PATH settings to avoid putting utility
and test executables in the 'bin' directory of the build tree. This
makes the directory look like that in the installation tree, except that
on multi-configuration generators we still use a per-config
subdirectory.
The DumpDocumentation executable and some supporting code and tests were
completely unused by CMake. Generation of documentation is done by the
individual executables with --help* options. In this commit we simply
remove the unused code, executable, and test.
In this test we start up a cmake script that runs a process that sleeps,
and the timeout for the script is shorter than the sleep time. However,
in order to properly detect that the sleeping grandchild is killed when
the script times out we need to give sufficient time for the script to
start the grandchild. Otherwise the log file for the grandchild is not
available.
On some (cygwin) builds our previous 1 second timeout for the script was
not long enough to let the interpreter load and start the grandchild.
We make the timeout time configurable by setting CTestTestTimeout_TIME
in the cache for CMake itself. It tells the test how long to let the
script run. The grandchild always sleeps for 4 seconds longer to ensure
a comfortable window during which the process tree can be killed.
This test requires that the dashboard script it drives be invoked with
"ctest -C <config> -S ...". We create a "CTestTest_CONFIG" variable to
hold a configuration selected at test time. We use the configuration
given to the outer CTest, if any, and then default to either Debug or
the CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE.
We extend the CTestTestTimeout test to check that when a test times out
its children (grandchildren of ctest) are killed. Instead of running
the timeout executable directly, we run it through a cmake script that
redirects the timeout executable output to a file. A second test later
runs and verifies that the timeout executable was unable to complete and
write data to the log file. Only if the first inner test times out and
the second inner test passes (log is empty) does the CTestTestTimeout
test pass.
The commit "Fake $HOME to isolate tests from user" started setting $HOME
in the CTest script environment. On some platforms tests depend on some
local configuration in the home directory, such as the "cvs login" for
KWSys in CTestTest3.
In this commit we now construct a fake home dir during CMake config step
and populate it with a .cvspass file needed by the test. We also check
CTEST_NO_TEST_HOME to optionally disable the test home.

On platforms with $HOME in the environment, some of our features use it
to store information in the user home directory. However, tests for
these features should not touch the real user home directory. Instead
we configure a fake $HOME that points inside the build tree for use
during testing.
See issue #9949.
The commit "Fix get_filename_component ABSOLUTE mode" broke REALPATH
treatment of relative paths because it stopped storing the absolute path
in local variable 'filename'. This commit fixes the call to GetRealPath
to use the proper local variable and adds a test.
Some compilers use implicit link options of the form
-lcrt*.o
-lgcc*
-lSystem (on Mac)
-lSystemStubs (on Mac)
that provide system-wide symbols not specific to any language.
These need not be listed explicitly for mixed-language linking.
We teach CMake to remove the above items from the implicit library list
of each language. This change makes it possible to mix GNU compiler
versions in some cases.
This allows for a built in bzip and zip capability, so external tools
will not be needed for these packagers. The cmake -E tar xf should be
able to handle all compression types now as well.
The commit "Test per-config OUTPUT_DIRECTORY properties" added this test
with a find_library() call in a CMake script, which requires an explicit
list of possible library prefixes and suffixes. This commit adds more
suffixes to match the libraries built on HP, MinGW, and Cygwin.
We test (ARCHIVE|LIBRARY|RUNTIME)_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY_<CONFIG> properties
by building COnly as a subdirectory and setting the properties to put
its files in specific locations. We build an executable that verifies
the targets actually appear where expected.
The BuildDepends test exercises incremental linking with MSVC and Intel
tools on Windows. In some cases the Intel compiler creates objects that
cause the MS linker it invokes to crash during incremental linking. We
avoid the problem for this test by disabling incremental linking.
We introduce the "CMake.If" test to try out conversion of constants and
variables to boolean values in the if() command. We cover both OLD and
NEW behavior for policy CMP0012.
The commit "Test all target types in Fortran" enabled a SHARED library
in the Fortran test. However, we do not yet implement support for
shared libraries with XL Fortran (it seems this requires using the C
compiler to link). Furthermore, the old g77 2.97 from Red Hat does not
support shared libs on Itanium because the g2c lib is not -fPIC.
For now we just disable SHARED libs in the test for these tools.
We add Intel and MinGW Fortran linker options to create the import
library portion of a DLL. This allows other binaries to link to a
Fortran DLL.
We also update the Fortran test to use a .def file to specify exports
since there is no __declspec(dllexport) markup syntax in Fortran.
To enable this test, the option TEST_KDE4_STABLE_BRANCH must be switched on.
It can only be switched on if CMAKE_RUN_LONG_TESTS is ON.
Then the test will only be added if Qt >= 4.5 can be found, Perl can be
found and ZLIB can be found.

This commit re-writes Borland compiler build rules. We split the rules
into modern <os>-<id>-<lang> information modules but share a common
macro between languages to avoid duplication.
We also address a bug in the previous rules that would build some target
types against the static Borland runtime and others against the shared
Borland runtime in one build tree. Now we always use the shared runtime
as is the default in the rules for MS tools.
Previously we passed inputs to the decision to each Complex test and let
the test source decide. This commit moves the decision out of the tests
and makes it an option() in their source. This makes it possible to
build the Complex tests from outside the CMake test tree.
When <pkg>_DIR is set to an incorrect version we search again and store
the result in the variable, even if it is <pkg>_DIR-NOTFOUND.
There was a bug in the case when the new search does not find anything
and the old value came from a cache entry with UNINITALIZED type. The
command used to try to load a package configuration file from the last
place searched, and would leave the old wrong value in the entry. This
commit fixes the behavior to avoid trying to load a missing file and to
set the value to <pkg>_DIR-NOTFOUND as expected.
The regex used by CMAKE_PARSE_IMPLICIT_LINK_INFO to detect link lines
should not match lines that happen to have ".../ld.../..." in them. A
linker name should match only as the last component of a path.
See issue #9666.
This commit teaches the CMAKE_PARSE_IMPLICIT_LINK_INFO function to log
its actions. We store the log in CMakeFiles/CMakeOutput.log at the top
of the project build tree. This will make diagnosis of implicit link
information parsing problems easier.
In the Fortran test we use a custom command to build another Fortran
project internally. The project provides a Fortran module and library
to which to link. This commit teaches the test to build the extra
project using the same build configuration as the main project.
We need to leave out the '%' character from tests with the Intel
compiler. Since '%' needs to be written '%%' in NMake when not using a
response file but just '%' when using a response file, we just skip the
character for now. It works with MSVC in NMake only because that
compiler expects '%%' inside response files, which do get used.
CMake defines MSVC only for a VS compiler, but the Intel compiler adds
the preprocessor definition _MSC_VER. Instead of relying on separate
tests to decide whether to use example_dll_2, we do one test in CMake
and then add our own preprocessor definition.
We test this by adding export(TARGETS) to the LinkLanguage test to
export the executable before the library is linked to it. Since
export(TARGETS) computes the link interface of the target (so that it
can export it), this ensures that the information is recomputed after
the link library is added.
This adds a "ModuleDefinition" test enabled when using MSVC tools. It
checks that .def files can be used to export .dll and .exe symbols and
create corresponding .lib files that can be linked. See issue #9613.
Policy CMP0002's OLD behavior allows duplicate non-custom targets. We
test it with a project that builds two executables of the same name by
setting CMP0002 to OLD.
The flag "-_this_is_not_a_flag_" was not rejected by GCC 4.0 on older
Mac OS X. We now use "---_this_is_not_a_flag_" instead, which will
hopefully be rejected by all compilers.
The CMake.File test runs several scripts through "cmake -P" and checks
the output and result against known good values. This commit factors
out the checking code into a separate CMakeCheckTest module. The module
may be used by new tests.
This commit teaches the FunctionTest to check variable scope behavior
when a subdirectory is added inside a function call. Any PARENT_SCOPE
sets in the subdirectory should affect only the function scope which
called add_subdirectory and not its parent scope.
CMake now looks for a Fortran compiler matching any C or C++ compiler
already enabled. We test this by enabling C and C++ first in the
Fortran test, which is what user projects will likely do.
Visual Studio 10 uses MSBuild to drive the build. Custom commands
appear in MSBuild files inside CustomBuild elements, which appear inside
ItemGroup elements. The Outputs and AdditionalInputs elements of each
CustomBuild element are evaluated according to timestamps on disk.
MSBuild does not use inputs/outputs to order CustomBuild steps within a
single ItemGroup or across multiple ItemGroup elements. Instead we must
put only unrelated CustomBuild elements in a single ItemGroup and order
the item groups from top to bottom using a topological order of the
custom command dependency graph.
This fixes CustomCommand and ExternalProject test failures, so we remove
the expectation of these failures.
Part of this test does "git pull" on a dirty work tree. We need to make
sure that 'branch.master.rebase' is false for the test repository.
Otherwise if it is true in the user configuration then pull will refuse
to rebase and the test will fail.
We teach the FindPackageTest to build a sample project that stores its
build tree in the user package registry using export(PACKAGE), and then
find it with find_package.
We test that LINK_INTERFACE_MULTIPLICITY propagates through export() and
install(EXPORT) into dependent projects. A simple cycle of two archives
that need to be scanned three times ensures that the importing project
uses the multiplicity correctly.
This function builds a simple test project using a combination of
Fortran and C (and optionally C++) to verify that the compilers are
compatible. The idea is to help projects report very early to users
that the compilers specified cannot mix languages.
This teaches the 'testing' test to try generator expressions in
arguments to add_test(NAME). This test case mimics a common use-case of
passing executables to test driver scripts. We excercise the syntax for
per-configuration target file names.
This is a new FortranCInterface.cmake module to replace the previous
prototype. All module support files lie in a FortranCInterface
directory next to it.
This module uses a new approach to detect Fortran symbol mangling. We
build a single test project which defines symbols in a Fortran library
(one per object-file) and calls them from a Fortran executable. The
executable links to a C library which defines symbols encoding all known
manglings (one per object-file). The C library falls back to the
Fortran library for symbols it cannot provide. Therefore the executable
will always link, but prefers the C-implemented symbols when they match.
These symbols store string literals of the form INFO:symbol[<name>] so
we can parse them out of the executable.
This module also provides a simpler interface. It always detects the
mangling as soon as it is included. A single macro is provided to
generate mangling macros and optionally pre-mangled symbols.
The try_compile command builds the cmTryCompileExec executable using the
cmTryCompileExec/fast target with Makefile generators in order to save
time since dependencies are not needed. However, in project mode the
command builds an entire source tree that may have dependencies.
Therefore we can use the /fast target approach only in one-source mode.
Previously the Fortran test created a single executable containing C,
C++, and Fortran sources. This commit divides the executable into three
libraries corresponding to each language, and two executables testing
Fortran/C only and Fortran/C/C++ together. The result tests more
combinations of using the languages together, and that language
requirements propagate through linking.
When building an entire source tree with try_compile instead of just a
single source file, it is possible that the CMakeLists.txt file in the
try-compiled project invokes try_compile. This commit fixes propagation
of language-initialization results from the outer-most project into any
number of try-compile levels.
The try_compile command project mode builds an entire source tree
instead of one source file. It uses an existing CMakeLists.txt file in
the given source tree instead of generating one. This commit creates a
test for the mode in the TryCompile test.
This adds sample linker invocation lines for the Intel compiler on
Linux. In particular, this exercises the case when "ld" appears without

The Sun Fortran compiler passes -zallextract and -zdefaultextract to the
linker so that all objects from one of its archives are included in the
link. This teaches the implicit options parser to recognize the flags.
We need to pass them explicitly on C++ link lines when Fortran code is
linked.
This extends the Fortran-to-C interface test to add a C++ source file.
The executable can only link with the C++ linker and with the proper
Fortran runtime libraries. These libraries should be detected by CMake
automatically, so this tests verifies the detection functionality.
This hack was created to help the Fortran test executables link to the
implicit C libraries added by BullsEye. Now that implicit libraries
from all languages are detected and included automatically the hack is
no longer needed.
This teaches the SystemInformation test to report the CMake log files
CMakeOutput.log and CMakeError.log from the CMake build tree and from
the SystemInformation test build tree. These logs may help diagnose
dashboard problems remotely.
This extends the Fortran/C interface test to require that the executable
link to the fortran language runtime libraries. We must verify that the
proper linker is chosen.
The commit "Avoid case change in ImplicitLinkInfo test" did not change
all of the paths to mingw, so some case change still occurs. This
changes more of them.
Since "get_filename_component(... ABSOLUTE)" retrieves the actual case
for existing paths on windows, we need to use an obscure path for mingw.
Otherwise the test can fail just because the case of the paths changes.
This tests the internal CMakeParseImplicitLinkInfo.cmake module to
ensure that implicit link information is extracted correctly. The test
contains many manually verified examples from a variety of systems.
This teaches CMake to detect implicit link information for C, C++, and
Fortran compilers. We detect the implicit linker search directories and
implicit linker options for UNIX-like environments using verbose output
from compiler front-ends. We store results in new variables called
CMAKE_<LANG>_IMPLICIT_LINK_LIBRARIES
CMAKE_<LANG>_IMPLICIT_LINK_DIRECTORIES
The implicit libraries can contain linker flags as well as library
names.
The command "set(... PARENT_SCOPE)" should never affect the calling
scope. This improves the Function test to check that such calls in a
subdirectory scope affect the parent but not the child.
When this test was renamed from DumpInformation to SystemInformation the
configured header that points the dump executable to the directory
containing information files was broken. No information has been dumped
by this test for 2 years! This fixes it.
The ExportImport test drives its Export and Import projects using the
same compiler and flags. This converts the ctest --build-and-test
command lines to use an initial cache file instead of passing all
settings on the command line.
We need a shorter command line to pass through VS 6 on Win98.
This approach reduces duplicate code anyway.
cmCTestScriptHandler, but have it load the new script CTestScriptMode.cmake

trees. Currently we always update to the head of the remote tracking
branch (hg pull), so the nightly start time is ignored for Nightly
builds. A later change will address this.

slightly for code style, to finish up some parsing details, and to fix
the test.
This creates new module ExternalProject.cmake to replace the prototype
AddExternalProject.cmake module. The interface is more refined, more
flexible, and better documented than the prototype.
This also converts the ExternalProject test to use the new module. The
old module will be removed (it was never in a CMake release) after
projects using it have been converted to the new module.
This test requires a long time on slower machines, so we need to extend
its timeout. It is an important test, so it does not fall under the
CMAKE_RUN_LONG_TESTS option. In the future we should try to shorten the
test by building simpler external projects.
The test needs to create a cvs repository with 'cvs init', but the CVSNT
client on Windows needs 'cvs init -n' to avoid administrator access.
Previously we required users to explicitly enable CTEST_TEST_UPDATE_CVS
to activate the test on Windows.
This teaches the test to use the '-n' option when necessary. Now we can
enable the test in all cases except when trying to use a cygwin cvs.exe
without cygwin paths.
If an executable marks symbols with __declspec(dllexport) then VS
creates an import library for it. However, it forgets to create the
directory that will contain the import library if it is different from
the location of the executable. We work around this VS bug by creating
a pre-build event on the executable target to make the directory.
The BZR xml output plugin can use some encodings that are not recognized
by expat, which leads to "Error parsing bzr log xml: unknown encoding".
This works around the problem by giving expat a mapping, and adds a
test. Patch from Tom Vercauteren. See issue #6857.

CMake directory removal code cannot remove content from read-only
directories (a separate bug which will be fixed). Therefore we should
not create them in the StringFileTest. This tweaks the file(COPY) call
to test not giving OWNER_WRITE to files rather than directories.
This property was left from before CMake always linked using full path
library names for targets it builds. In order to safely link with
"-lfoo" we needed to avoid having both shared and static libraries in
the build tree for targets that switch on BUILD_SHARED_LIBS. This meant
cleaning both shared and static names before creating the library, which
led to the creation of CLEAN_DIRECT_OUTPUT to disable the behavior.
Now that we always link with a full path we do not need to clean old
library names left from an alternate setting of BUILD_SHARED_LIBS. This
change removes the CLEAN_DIRECT_OUTPUT property and instead uses its
behavior always. It removes some complexity from cmTarget internally.
This creates target properties ARCHIVE_OUTPUT_NAME, LIBRARY_OUTPUT_NAME,
and RUNTIME_OUTPUT_NAME, and per-configuration equivalent properties
ARCHIVE_OUTPUT_NAME_<CONFIG>, LIBRARY_OUTPUT_NAME_<CONFIG>, and
RUNTIME_OUTPUT_NAME_<CONFIG>. They allow specification of target output
file names on a per-type, per-configuration basis. For example, a .dll
and its .lib import library may have different base names.
For consistency and to avoid ambiguity, the old <CONFIG>_OUTPUT_NAME
property is now also available as OUTPUT_NAME_<CONFIG>.

The file(INSTALL) command has long been undocumented and used only to
implement install() scripts. We now document it and provide a similar
file(COPY) signature which is useful in general-purpose scripts. It
provides the capabilities of install(DIRECTORY) and install(FILES) but
operates immediately instead of contributing to install scripts.
This extends the Preprocessor test to put spaces in the value of a
definition that is not a quoted string. In particular this tests that
VS6 supports values with spaces if they do not have '"', '$', or ';'.
See issue #8779.
Previously we rejected all preprocessor definition values containing
spaces for the VS6 IDE generator. In fact VS6 does support spaces but
not in combination with '"', '$', or ';', and only if we use the sytnax
'-DNAME="value with spaces"' instead of '-D"NAME=value with spaces"'.
Now we support all definition values that do not have one of these
invalid pairs. See issue #8779.

branch (git pull), so the nightly start time is ignored for Nightly
builds. A later change will address this. See issue #6994.
The add_external_project function separates its arguments with ';'
separators, so previously no command line argument could contain one.
When specifying CMAKE_ARGS, some -D argument values may need to contain
a semicolon to form lists in the external project cache.
This adds add_external_project argument LIST_SEPARATOR to specify a list
separator string. The separator is replaced by ';' in arguments to any
command created to drive the external project. For example:
add_external_project(...
LIST_SEPARATOR ::
CMAKE_ARGS -DSOME_LIST:STRING=A::B::C
...)
passes "-DSOME_LIST:STRING=A;B;C" to CMake for the external project.
Linking to a Windows shared library (.dll) requires only its import
library (.lib). This teaches CMake to recognize SHARED IMPORTED library
targets that set only IMPORTED_IMPLIB and not IMPORTED_LOCATION.
CVS clients recognize file modifications only if a file's timestamp is
newer than its CVS/Entries line. This fixes intermittent failure of the
test on filesystems with low timestamp resolution by delaying before
creating a local modification.
This creates function 'add_external_project_step' to centralize creation
of external project steps. Users may call it to add custom steps to
external project builds.
The value of CMAKE_CURRENT_LIST_FILE is supposed to be the list file
currently being executed. Before macros were introduced this was always
the context of the argument referencing the variable.
Our original implementation of macros replaced the context of command
arguments inside the macro with that of the arguments of the calling
context. This worked recursively, but only worked when macros had at
least one argument. Furthermore, it caused parsing errors of the
arguments to report the wrong location (calling context instead of line
with error).
The commit "Improve context for errors in macros" fixed the latter bug
by keeping the lexical context of command arguments in macros. It broke
evaluation of CMAKE_CURRENT_LIST_FILE because the calling context was no
longer preserved in the argument referencing the variable. However,
since our list file processing now maintains the proper value of
CMAKE_CURRENT_LIST_FILE with dynamic scope we no longer need the context
of the argument and can just evaluate the variable normally.
The add_definitions() command and COMPILE_DEFINITIONS dir/tgt/src
properties support preprocessor definitions with values. Previously
values were not supported in the VS6 generator even though the native
tool supports them. It is only values with spaces that VS6 does not
support. This enables support and instead complains only for values
with spaces. See issue #8779.
The patch step runs parallel to the update step since it does not make
sense to have both. Configuration of the step requires specification of
a PATCH_COMMAND argument to add_external_project.
This rewrites the keyword/argument parsing and handling in the
AddExternalProject module to use arguments more literally:
- The strict keyword-value pairing is gone in favor of keywords with
arbitrary non-keyword values. This avoids requiring users to escape
spaces and quotes in command lines.
- Customized step command lines are now specified with a single
keyword <step>_COMMAND instead of putting the arguments in a
separate entry (previously called <step>_ARGS).
- Build step custom commands now use VERBATIM mode so that arguments
are correctly escaped on the command line during builds.
This creates a new mode of the foreach command which allows precise
iteration even over empty elements. This mode may be safely extended
with more keyword arguments in the future. The cost now is possibly
breaking scripts that iterate over a list of items beginning with 'IN',
but there is no other way to extend the syntax in a readable way.
This creates global property RULE_MESSAGES which can be set to disbale
per-rule progress and action reporting. On Windows, these reports may
cause a noticable delay due to the cost of starting extra processes.
This feature will allow scripted builds to avoid the cost since they do
not need detailed information anyway. This replaces the RULE_PROGRESS
property created earlier as it is more complete. See issue #8726.

This creates command mode add_test(NAME ...). This signature is
extensible with more keyword arguments later. The main purpose is to
enable automatic replacement of target names with built target file
locations. A side effect of this feature is support for tests that only
run under specific configurations.
This adds the CACHE option to set_property and get_property commands.
This allows full control over cache entry information, so advanced users
can tweak their project cache as desired. The set_property command
allows only pre-defined CACHE properties to be set since others would
not persist anyway.
This moves the version numbers into an isolated configured header so
that not all of CMake needs to rebuild when the version changes.
Previously we had spaces, dashes and/or the word 'patch' randomly chosen
before the patch number. Now we always report version numbers in the
traditional format "<major>.<minor>.<patch>[-rc<rc>]".
We still use odd minor numbers for development versions. Now we also
use the CCYYMMDD date as the patch number of development versions, thus
allowing tests for exact CMake versions.
This cleans up the 'cmake --build' command-line interface:
- Rename --clean to --clean-first to better describe it.
- Replace --extra-options with a -- separator to simplify passing of
multiple native build tool options.
- Document the options in the main CMake man page description of the
--build option, and shares this with the usage message.
- Require --build to be the first argument when present.
- Move implementation into cmakemain where it belongs.
This teaches AddExternalProject to run "$(MAKE)" for build and install
steps of CMake-based external projects when using a Makefile generator.
It allows the external project to participate in a parallel make invoked
on the superproject.
This adds the OPTIONAL option to the install(DIRECTORY) command. It
tells the installation rule that it is not an error if the source
directory does not exist. See issue #8394.
This patch from Philip Lowman creates a REALPATH mode in the
get_filename_component command. It is like ABSOLUTE, but will also
resolve symlinks (which ABSOLUTE once did but was broken long ago).
See issue #8423.
The patch used to fix this bug used SystemTools::GetRealPath which works
only for existing files. It broke the case of using the command
get_filename_component for a non-existing file. Also, it changed
long-standing behavior in a possibly incompatible way even for existing
files. This reverts the original fix and instead updates the
documentation to be consistent with the behavior.
Isolation of policy changes inside scripts is important for protecting
the including context. This teaches include() and find_package() to
imply a cmake_policy(PUSH) and cmake_policy(POP) around the scripts they
load, with a NO_POLICY_SCOPE option to disable the behavior. This also
creates CMake Policy CMP0011 to provide compatibility. See issue #8192.
This teaches functions and macros to use policies recorded at creation
time when they are invoked. It restores the policies as a weak policy
stack entry so that any policies set by a function escape to its caller
as before.
Recently we taught find_package to re-find a package if its
<package>_DIR result variable was set to a location not containing the
package (instead of reporting an error as before). This tests the
feature.
The new 'testing' test behavior of actually running the tests generated
by the project still fails when the test script guesses the Debug
configuration but the CMake build tree was only built Release. The
inner ctest needs to find the ctest executable but is given the wrong
configuration.
The recent change of the 'testing' test to actually drive the tests
within it does not work on Windows with released CMakes 2.6.2 and lower
if no configuration is given to ctest with a -C option. This works
around the problem by detecting the case and changing the empty
configuration to Debug.
On Windows the KWSys System package generates escapes for command-line
arguments. This fix enables quoting of the empty string as an argument.
This also adds a test to pass an empty argument to a custom command.
The 'testing' CMake test builds a project that uses add_test. This
strengthens the test to actually run CTest on the project build tree
after building it.
We now search in
<prefix>/<name>*/
<prefix>/<name>*/(cmake|CMake)
when looking for package configuration files. This is useful on Windows
since the Program Files folder is in CMAKE_SYSTEM_PREFIX_PATH. These
paths are the Windows equivalent to the Apple convention application and
framework paths we already search. See issue #8264.
The $ENV{VAR} syntax permits access to environment variables. This
teaches CMake to recognize most characters in the VAR name since some
environments may have variables with non-C-identifier characters.
The previous change to test finding in lib/cmake/<name>* weakened the
versioned find tests. Since the lib/cmake paths are searched before
lib/<name>* paths the previous change skipped requiring the command to
ignore zot-3.0 when finding zot-3.1. This change restores that and adds
zot-4.0 to test the lib/cmake path.
This teaches find_package to search
<prefix>/(share|lib)/cmake/<name>*/
for package configuration files. Packages that do not already have
files in a <prefix>/lib/<name>* directory can use this location to avoid
cluttering the lib directory.
