Fix capitalization of Qt4_FOUND variable when setting it to false in

If this option is enabled, the test step is created with the
EXCLUDE_FROM_MAIN option, and if TEST_BEFORE_INSTALL is enabled, the
install step does not depend on the test step.
This means that the test step is never executed, unless the test target
is explicitly created by calling ExternalProject_Add_StepTarget, or by
passing it with the STEP_TARGETS option, or with the EP_STEP_TARGETS
directory property.

When compiling the ABI detection test project, do not override
CMAKE_EXE_LINKER_FLAGS completely. The normally selected value of this

representative of how the calling project will be built. Instead pass a
variable that try_compile will reference as additional flags. Leave
this behavior of try_compile undocumented for now.
Revert the feature added by commit v3.1.0-rc1~420^2~2 (FindOpenGL:
Provide imported targets for GL and GLU, 2014-05-31). Unfortunately it
does not work on Windows because the full path to each library file is
not actually known. The IMPORTED_LOCATION of an imported target must be
a full path, but OPENGL_gl_LIBRARY is just 'opengl32' on Windows because
the actual library file is in some implicit link directory that we may
know know.
More infrastructure will be needed in CMake to allow a name-only
imported library. Until that exists, we will not be able to provide
imported targets in FindOpenGL.
In commit v3.1.0-rc1~640^2~5 (Clean up usage of if(... MATCHES regex)
followed string(REGEX REPLACE regex), 2014-04-06) we accidentally broke
logging of the implicit library detection. Restore use of the
intermediate 'lib' variable so that the log message is constructed
properly.

In commit 079e8469ab (... OpenGL always needs X11 on Unix, 2002-09-05)
the FindOpenGL module was taught to search for X11 as a dependency of
the OpenGL library. This was done without a detailed explanation, and
the dependency should not be explicitly needed because OpenGL headers
should not expose applications to X11 APIs directly.
Unfortunately the only way to know if anything legitimately depends on
this behavior (perhaps in static library cases) is to simply remove it
and wait for issues to be reported. If so, then we can add some kind of
compatibility setting for this later. Add a release note to draw
attention to this change.

Since commit b22e2de8 (HPUX support, 2001-11-05) the FindCurses
module searches for a 'cur_colr' library, but that is not needed
anymore. AFAICT, the cur_colr package was introduced in HP-UX 10.00 and
marked as deprecated in 10.30 by X/OPEN curses (which replaced the even
older HP curses in 10.10).
In order to use cur_colr after 10.10 you should use the
/usr/include/curses_colr when compiling. Since FindCurses doesn't even
search that path the headers cannot possibly match out of the box. If
users want cur_colr they can set the cache entries by hand.
There is no 64-bit version of cur_colr in 11.11PA and it will be gone
completely in 11.31PA:
http://h21007.www2.hp.com/portal/download/files/unprot/STK/HPUX_STK/impacts/i964.html
It is simplest to drop cur_colr support from FindCurses since it was
only partially implemented anyway.

Add support for Sun/Uniforum/GNU gettext libintl. This belongs in CMake

* There are multiple upstreams (Sun, GNU).
* It may or may not be in the glibc C library depending

Although we already have a FindGettext module, that is for the tools.
This module is for the library, and is independent because it's
perfectly OK to use libintl without the gettext tools (and vice versa),
and they might not all be found. Add cross references between the two
modules in notes to make the relationship clearer.

Since commit v3.1.0-rc1~1^2~1 (Xcode: Fix compiler id detection for iOS
tools, 2014-10-22) our compiler id detection project sets the product
type to 'com.apple.product-type.bundle.unit-test'. This causes the Ld
command line on which we match the path to the compiler to have a
'CompilerIdC.xctest/' component. The commit updated our regex to match
this, but placed it before the extra './' component that Xcode 5.0 and
below produce. Xcode <= 5.0 prints '/./CompilerIdC.xctest/', so switch
the order of the two components in the regex to match it.
If UPDATE_DISCONNECTED is set, the update step is not executed
automatically when building the main target. The update step can still
be added as a step target and called manually. This is useful if you
want to allow to build the project when you are disconnected from the
network (you might still need the network for the download step).
This is disabled by default.
The directory property EP_UPDATE_DISCONNECTED can be used to change
the default value for all the external projects in the current
directory and its subdirectories.
Some generators (i.e. Xcode) will not generate a file level target if
no command is set, and therefore the dependencies on this target will
be broken.
This patch sets an empty echo command that does nothing to avoid this
issue.
The ExternalProject_Add_StepDependencies function add some dependencies
for some external project step.
The syntax is:
ExternalProject_Add_Step_Dependencies(<name> <step> [target1 [target2 [...]]])
This function takes care to set both target and file level dependencies,
and will ensure that parallel builds will not break.
It should be used instead of add_dependencies() when adding a dependency
for some of the step targets generated by ExternalProject. See also:
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.programming.tools.cmake.devel/8680/focus=8926
When adding step targets using ExternalProject_Add_StepTargets, the
STEP_TARGETS argument or the EP_STEP_TARGETS property, ExternalProject
sets all the dependencies for the main project to that target. Due to
this, the update target cannot be used without downloading and building
all the dependencies.
In order to be able to add step targets that do not depend on other
external projects, this patch adds:
* An optional "NO_DEPENDS" argument to the
ExternalProject_Add_StepTargets function. If this argument is set,
then no dependencies are set for the target (file dependencies will
still be set).
* A new argument INDEPENDENT_STEP_TARGETS to the ExternalProject_Add
function and a new directory property EP_INDEPENDENT_STEP_TARGETS that
behave like STEP_TARGETS and EP_STEP_TARGETS, but cause the
ExternalProject_Add_StepTargets to be called with the NO_DEPENDS
argument.

In commit v2.8.0~395 (Implicit link info for C, CXX, and Fortran,
2009-07-23) we added a '-DCMAKE_${lang}_STANDARD_LIBRARIES=' flag to the
try_compile used to build the ABI detection project. It is needed when
detecting the implicit libraries added by the GNU compiler on Windows
(MinGW tools) to avoid contaminating the list with standard Windows
libraries. However, with MSVC we do not detect such implicit link
libraries anyway, and for some target platforms (e.g. Windows Phone) we
may need the standard libraries to link the ABI detection executable.
Drop the flag when detecting the ABI using MSVC.

The cleanup in commit 4f2fcce4 (Check*: Allow result variables to
contain regex special characters, 2014-07-31) broke old VXL code that
abuses the old "if(MATCHES)" implementation by using
SET( ${VARIABLE} ${VARIABLE} )

CheckFunctionExists, CheckIncludeFileCXX, and CheckSymbolExists modules
to re-run their checks when the result variable is set to its own name.
Use STREQUAL instead of MATCHES so that special characters still work.

Prior to the existence of the if(DEFINED) condition, many of our Check
modules implemented the condition with a hack that takes advantage of
the auto-dereference behavior of the if() command to detect if a
variable is defined. The hack has the form:
if("${VAR} MATCHES "^${VAR}$")
where "${VAR}" is a macro argument reference. However, this does not
work when the variable named in the macro argument contains characters
that have special meaning in regular expressions, such as '+'. Run the
command
git grep -E 'if\("\$\{.*\}" MATCHES "\^\$\{.*\}\$"\)' -- Modules/Check*
to identify lines with this problem. Use if(NOT DEFINED) instead.

Commit v3.0.0-rc1~111^2 (QNX: Introduce QCC compiler id for that
QNX platform compiler., 2014-01-20) split handling of the QNX QCC
compiler into a separate compiler-id. That refactoring results in
the QCC compiler not using the CMake-compiler-id "GNU", which means
that the __compiler_gnu macro is no longer executed for it.
Add Compiler/QCC*.cmake modules to define and call the __compiler_qcc
macro and teach it to call __compiler_gnu internally. Remove the
corresponding pieces from the Platform/QNX*.cmake modules.
It is also necessary to change the language conditional to dereference
the lang macro parameter, which is another bug introduced by the
same commit. The extra -lang-c++ flag is only necessary when the CXX
compiler is specified as 'qcc' instead of 'QCC' in the toolchain file,
which is why this bug was not noticed before. The flag is also necessary
in that case when linking in order to find the appropriate standard
libraries. The flag was not previously added when linking executables,
so linking failed even with CMake 2.8.12 with the lower-case compiler-id.

Fixes Issue #14864
Previously when linking the intermediate link file for separable compilation
the CUDA_NVCC_FLAGS* were not used. This caused tremendous confusion when
using this feature, and I consider it to be a bug. This change should fix
this.
Clang discards the entire string if it is not used, removing
the ability to read the features from the compiled binary. That
is prevented by using the symbol.
GNU with -O3 also discards the string, so use the string in a
way which is determined by a runtime value (argc) to prevent
it being discarded.
Add properties and variables corresponding to CXX equivalents.
Add features for c_function_prototypes (C90), c_restrict (C99),
c_variadic_macros (C99) and c_static_assert (C11). This feature
set can be extended later.
Add a <PREFIX>_RESTRICT symbol define to WriteCompilerDetectionHeader
to conditionally represent the c_restrict feature.
Provide a function to write a portable header to detect compiler
features. Generate a preprocessor #error for unknown compilers
and compiler versions whose features are not yet recorded. This
error condition might be relaxed in the future, but for now it
is useful for verification of expectations.
Remove the use of check_cxx_source_compiles which is now just getting in

Just like -I flag has its -isystem counterpart which marks an include
directory as a system directory and prevents unwanted warnings, on Apple
systems there is -iframework -- a system directory replacement for -F.
Use this flag to implement include_directories(SYSTEM) for frameworks.
This will allow sharing of the logic of the order to test compilers in
and the preprocessor macros used to do that and to determine the
version components.

Use CMAKE_OSX_SYSROOT and CMAKE_OSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET to set the Xcode
SDKROOT and MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET build settings. This is necessary
because some versions of Xcode select a different compiler based on
these settings. We need to make sure the compiler identified during
language initialization matches what will be used for the actual build.
Initialize variables CMAKE_OSX_SYSROOT, CMAKE_OSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET, and
CMAKE_OSX_ARCHITECTURES prior to enabling any languages. This will
allow compiler identification to consider these values.
Create a Modules/CMakeSystemSpecificInitialize.cmake module loaded after
CMakeSystem.cmake but before per-language initialization. Use it to
load an optional Platform/<os>-Initialize.cmake module. This will be
useful to do per-platform initialization that does not depend on the
language and use the results when enabling specific languages.
Old versions of aCC need a special compiler flag to get full C++98 template

The same versions need a special flag to get a proper C++ library, too.
When the primary source tree path named by a DATA{} reference does not
exist, produce an AUTHOR_WARNING instead of a FATAL_ERROR. This is
useful when writing a new DATA{} reference to a test reference output
that has not been created yet. This way the developer can run the test,
manually verify the output, and then copy it into place to provide the
reference and eliminate the warning.
If the named source tree path is expected to be a file but exists as a
directory, we still need to produce a FATAL_ERROR.

Since commit v2.6.0~388 (Added build rule variables
CMAKE_<LANG>_ARCHIVE_..., 2008-01-29) we use separate "ar cr ..." and
"ar r ..." steps to incrementally add a large list of object files to an
archive. Since the "r" command replaces existing objects of the same
name in an archive, if multiple objects have the same file name and
appear in separate append steps then one overwrites the other. Instead,
use "ar cq ..." and "ar q ..." to always append to the archive.
We already remove the archive before creating it so this will not cause
objects to be appended to existing archives on incremental rebuilds.
The matches have already been calculated and can simply be taken from
CMAKE_MATCH_n variables. This avoids multiple compilations of the same or very
similar regular expressions.

This will be extended to other languages in the future. Follow-up

QT4_CREATE_MOC_COMMAND is given a moc_flags argument that contains the
COMPILE_DEFINITIONS and a potentially large list of include directories.
Since it is a macro, the ${moc_flags} reference is replaced with this
content and sent through cmMakefile::ExpandVariablesInString (EVIS).
Since commit v3.0.0-rc1~138^2 (Qt4: Use generator expression in
COMPILE_DEFINITIONS, 2014-01-13) the COMPILE_DEFINITIONS value contains
a '$' so the EVIS fast-path is no longer used. Instead the full

very slow (since it was originally created for hand-written code).
Change QT4_CREATE_MOC_COMMAND to a function instead of a macro to avoid
passing large content through EVIS. This makes it significantly faster.

The reason for this is that an external project could be useful, for
example, only for running tests, and therefore not necessary during
the build.
When adding a new step using ExternalProject_Add_Step, the main target
will depend on this step.
This option allows one to add a step that will not be executed when the
main target for the external project is executed.
ExternalProject handles git remote branches by commit hash. Due to
this, the git repository ends in detached states, and local commits
are discarded.
Use "git rebase" for remote branches instead of "git checkout". If
there are uncommitted changes, use "git stash save/pop" to save changes
and restore them after the rebase. If any of these operations fails,
try to restore the original status and exit with a fatal error, asking
the user to resolve the conflicts manually.
This also makes the behaviour of ExternalProject using git more similar
to the svn version, and probably more likely to what the user expects
by setting GIT_TAG to a branch.
Previously the GTEST_ADD_TESTS function would miss parameterized tests
because it only considered TEST and TEST_F. Add TEST_P to the list of
considered tests and will run all instantiations of this parameterized
test together.
This is perhaps not as correct as searching for all instantiations of
this parameterized test and separating those into separate runs, but
this will at least run tests that were previously missing.

Drop the CMAKE_NO_QUOTED_OBJECTS internal variable from the Makefile
generators. The underlying problem is with the Watcom linker, not with
WMake. The Watcom linker wants object files to be single-quoted. Add
<LINK-RULE>_USE_WATCOM_QUOTE platform information variables to tell the
generators to use Watcom-style single quotes for object files on link
lines.
On Windows, Watcom uses the GetCommandLine API to get the original
command-line string and do custom parsing that expects single quotes.
On POSIX systems, Watcom approximates the original command line by
joining all argv[] entries separated by a single space. Therefore we
need to double-quote the single-quoted arguments so that the shell does
not consume them and they are available for the parser to see.

Since commit v2.8.12~327^2 (Qt4Macros: Allow specifying a TARGET
in invokations of macros., 2013-02-26), a parameters file is
populated with moc arguments at generate-time.
When the compile definitions or include directories change, the
parameters file is updated but moc is not re-run in response.
Fix that by making the moc invocation depend on the parameters file.

Objective C sources should be compiled with the C compiler, not C++.
The Xcode generator correctly classifies ".m" sources already. The
cmSystemTools::GetFileFormat method was fixed by commit v2.8.0~1782 (fix
for 7045, use gcc for .m, 2008-08-19) but it is not used by any of the
generator since commit v2.4.0~2819 (major changes to support addition of
languages, 2004-09-22).
Fix the CMAKE_<LANG>_SOURCE_FILE_EXTENSIONS table entries so that
cmGlobalGenerator::GetLanguageFromExtension tells the Makefile, Ninja,
and VS IDE generators to compile ".m" sources as C. This makes behavior
consistent on all generators.

Use CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH, CMAKE_FRAMEWORK_PATH, and CMAKE_APPBUNDLE_PATH
cache and environment variables to extend PKG_CONFIG_PATH before calling
pkg-config.
In each of the path in these variables it searches for lib/pkgconfig.
Then, depending on the system, it searches for
lib/${CMAKE_LIBRARY_ARCHITECTURE}/pkgconfig (debian) or for
lib64/pkgconfig (other 64 bit unixes). If any of these path is found,
it is appended to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH enviromnent variable.
Add two new arguments to the pkg_check_module and pkg_search_module
macro, NO_CMAKE_PATH and NO_CMAKE_ENVIRONMENT_PATH. The new signature
are therefore:
pkg_check_modules(<PREFIX> [REQUIRED] [QUIET]
[NO_CMAKE_PATH] [NO_CMAKE_ENVIRONMENT_PATH]
<MODULE> [<MODULE>]*)
pkg_search_module(<PREFIX> [REQUIRED] [QUIET]
[NO_CMAKE_PATH] [NO_CMAKE_ENVIRONMENT_PATH]
<MODULE> [<MODULE>]*)
By default, if CMAKE_MINIMUM_REQUIRED_VERSION is 3.1 or later (in
order to keep compatibility with the previous behavior), or if
PKG_CONFIG_USE_CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH is set, the CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH,
CMAKE_FRAMEWORK_PATH, and CMAKE_APPBUNDLE_PATH cache and environment
variables will be added to pkgconfig search path.
The NO_CMAKE_PATH and NO_CMAKE_ENVIRONMENT_PATH arguments disable this
behavior for the cache variables and the environment variables,
respectively, similarly to the find_package() command.
This example now works without need to enable C language:
cmake_minimum_required(VERSION x.x.x)
project(foo CXX)
include(CheckTypeSize)
check_type_size("short" SIZEOF_SHORT LANGUAGE CXX)

The parent commit taught FindPythonLibs to try to find PythonInterp
unconditionally. Some projects may want the libraries of a specific
version even when the corresponding interpreter is not available. Drop
the internal use of FindPythonInterp and just use the versions from it
if it happens to have been found by the project first. That will allow
projects to get a consistent version when they want both but not
otherwise force them to find the interpreter.
In InstallRequiredSystemLibraries the version number for RTDLL can be
calculated from the compiler version. This will support current and
future OW versions without updating the module again.
For example it is now possible to do:
feature_summary(WHAT ENABLED_FEATURES
DISABLED_FEATURES)
That produces an output like:
--
-- The following features have been enabled:
* Feature1
* Feature2
-- The following features have been disabled:
* Feature2
Skipping the lists that are empty.
Without this patch this would require to do:
message(STATUS "")
feature_summary(WHAT ENABLED_FEATURES
DESCRIPTION "The following features have been enabled:")
feature_summary(WHAT DISABLED_FEATURES
DESCRIPTION "The following features have been disabled:")
And empty lists would not be skipped.
The behaviour when WHAT has a single argument (ALL or any option) is
unchanged.
When possible, get consistent version of the Python interpreter, headers path,
and library.
Now find_package(PythonLibs) internally calls find_package(PythonInterp
QUIET) and uses the resulting PYTHON_VERSION_MAJOR and
PYTHON_VERSION_MINOR to prefer these versions when looking for the
header path and library. The Python_ADDITIONAL_VERSIONS variable has
priority over the interpreter version.

Create each DLL import library by passing "option implib=..." to the
linker for its SHARED library. This works even when there are no
symbols to be exported. Leave the option out for MODULE libraries
because we do not need an import library for them. For executables,
retain the separate invocation of wlib because we want an import
library only when the ENABLE_EXPORTS property is set, and in that
case the project should provide symbols.

Now it only links with the Qt libraries specified by the user,
instead of automatically including all dependencies.
Fixes#14750 and thanks to Orion Poplawski.
Since commit v2.8.12~437^2~2 (VS: Separate compiler and linker PDB files
2013-04-05) we no longer set /Fd with the PDB_NAME or PDB_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY
properties. Those properties now exclusively handle linker PDB files.
Since STATIC libraries do not link their compiler PDB file becomes more
important. Add new target properties "COMPILE_PDB_NAME[_<CONFIG>]" and
"COMPILE_PDB_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY[_<CONFIG>]" to specify the compiler PDB
file location and pass the value to the MSVC /Fd option.
If there is no ARGV1, that is fine; version will be made empty, and no
version will be passed to find_package().
This is relevant when find_dependency is invoked multiple times,
sometimes with a version specified and sometimes without.
find_dependency(dep1 3.4)
find_dependency(dep2) # version still set to 3.4.

Extend the BuildDepends test with a case to cover this option.
When building boost with an alternate namespace the libraries generated
will have a different naming convention. This is often done to ensure
no symbol conflicts with external libraries built against a different
version of boost. If the namespace used is "myprivateboost::" instead
of "boost::" then the libraries built will be named myprivateboost_foo
instead of boost_foo. Add an option to specify a custom namespace used
to alter the library names that get searched for.
Create platform information modules Platform/Darwin-Intel-(C|CXX).cmake

information already in Platform/Darwin.cmake to avoid duplication.
Some distributions place boost_mpi next to the MPI libraries against
which it was built instead of next to the other Boost libraries. If
find_package(MPI) has already been run prior to find_package(Boost) then
MPI_CXX_LIBRARIES or MPI_C_LIBRARIES may be set to the location of the
MPI libraries. Teach FindBoost.cmake to look there for boost_mpi and
boost_mpi_python after looking next to the other Boost libraries but
not consider the location to be Boost_LIBRARY_DIR.

In commit v2.8.5~176^2~2 (FindOpenSSL: We should only use hints to find
OpenSSL, 2011-03-28) values for HINTS and PATHS of find_* calls were
computed everywhere but only used on Windows. Use them everywhere.
Set a global property in the find_package implementation. Track and
reset that property in the find_dependency macro. Read the property
in FeatureSummary when determining whether to print output.
This means that packages which are found only as dependencies are not
listed by FeatureSummary, but if a project uses find_package elsewhere
directly, then it will be listed by FeatureSummary.

However, on OS X ppc, 'uname -m' returns 'Power Macintosh' so add a

This variable can be useful in cross-compiling contexts where the
sysroot is read-only or where the sysroot should otherwise remain
pristine.
If the new CMAKE_STAGING_PREFIX variable is set, it is used instead
of CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX when generating the installation rules in
cmake_install.cmake.
This way, the CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX variable
always refers to the installation prefix on the target device, regardless
of whether host==target.
If any -rpath paths passed to the linker contain the CMAKE_STAGING_PREFIX,
the matching path fragments are replaced with the CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX.
Matching paths in the -rpath-link are not transformed.
The cross-prefix usr-move workaround is assumed not to require extension
regarding CMAKE_STAGING_PREFIX. The staging area is a single prefix, so
there is no scope for cross-prefix symlinks. The CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX
is still used to determine the workaround path, and that variable
remains the relevant one even if CMAKE_STAGING_PREFIX is used. If the
generated export files are deployed to the target, the workaround
will still be in place, and still be employed if required.

f41ecd1 CMakeDetermineCompilerId: Look for internal file only on host
As CMAKE_ROOT_FIND_PATH can be a list, a new CMAKE_SYSROOT is
introduced, which is never a list.
The contents of this variable is passed to supporting compilers
as --sysroot. It is also accounted for when processing implicit
link directories reported by the compiler, and when generating
RPATH information.
Clang can compile code, but uses the gcc tools for other tasks such
as linking. The -gcc-toolchain option can be used for that, but
generalize so that other compilers can be treated the same.
If such a location is specified, use it as a hint for finding
the binutils executables.
For clang, this allows passing -target <triple> to the compiler, and
for qcc, -V<arch> using toolchain files containing something like
set(triple arm-linux-gnueabihf)
set(CMAKE_C_COMPILER "/usr/bin/clang")
set(CMAKE_C_COMPILER_TARGET ${triple})
set(CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER "/usr/bin/clang++")
set(CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER_TARGET ${triple})
or
set(arch gcc_ntoarmv7le)
set(CMAKE_C_COMPILER /opt/qnx650/host/linux/x86/usr/bin/qcc)
set(CMAKE_C_COMPILER_TARGET ${arch})
set(CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER /opt/qnx650/host/linux/x86/usr/bin/QCC)
set(CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER_TARGET ${arch})
Both clang and qcc are inherently cross compiler( driver)s.
When cross-compiling with clang, use the CMAKE_${lang}_COMPILER_TARGET
as the _CMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_PREFIX to find the appropriate binutils.
When cross-compiling with QNX qcc, use the CMAKE_${lang}_COMPILER_TARGET
to set the appropriate _CMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_PREFIX.
The find_file this module uses to locate the compiler id source file

Drop the "Modules/CMakeVS*FindMake.cmake" files. Override the
cmGlobalGenerator::FindMakeProgram method for VS generators to use their
internal APIs to locate the build tool. Set the CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM as a
normal variable for use by project code, but do not cache it. This will
allow CMake and CTest to select the proper tool at build time.
Historically these were both added for the Makefile and Visual Studio
generators, respectively. Later the VS generators started using the
CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM cache entry to find the IDE build tool, and the
CMAKE_BUILD_TOOL was simply set as an alias.
Fix the documentation to explain that CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM is the modern
variable and that CMAKE_BUILD_TOOL is the compatibility alias, not the
other way around. Replace uses of CMAKE_BUILD_TOOL with
CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM in CMake-provided modules. Nothing needs to lookup
CMAKE_BUILD_TOOL in the cache, so simply set it as a normal variable.
The internal variables CPACK_ADDCOMP_COMPONENTS,
CPACK_ADDCOMP_STR and CPACK_ADDCOMP_UNAME were being needlessly
exported to CPackConfig.cmake.
Prefixing them with an underscore prevents this.
CPACK_ADDCOMP_STR was particularily problematic since it contains
unescaped quotes.

As mentioned in commit 4693cf84 (Xcode: Detect new default locations of
Xcode 4.3 bits and pieces) PackageMaker was split out of Xcode 4.3 and
above into a separate Auxiliary tools package. Since Xcode 5.0 or so,
Apple no longer distributes PackageMaker as part of the available
development tools so it can only be obtained from old packages.
Disable the CPACK_BINARY_PACKAGEMAKER option by default as is the case
for most other tool-dependent generators.
In certain scenarios, it is preferable to keep a 'dirty' install prefix
than to clear it, and to expect that content will not be found there.

searching the install prefix.

3e04946 Require CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER to be found as a full path
6007f7c CMakeDetermineCompilerId: Always use compiler detected from IDE
332771c CMakeDetermine*Compiler: Remove temporary cache entry
All generators now support detection of the full path to the compiler, so
require it to be so. This will allow CMake<LANG>Information.cmake and
other logic to assume the full path to the compiler tool is available.
The Makefile generators already rejected CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER values
that did not name an existing compiler. Extend this error message to
all generators, make it occur as early as possible, and improve the
message with advice about how to set the compiler. If the full path to
the compiler is not known, finish enabling languages with a fatal error
so configuration does not continue.
For now, allow the RC language compiler to not be a full path. Later we
will need to detect the full path to "rc" under the VS IDE.
Add a RunCMake.CompilerNotFound test to cover failure cases.
Fix the RunCMake.CompilerChange test EmptyCompiler case to work
when configuration does not continue past enable_language.
When compiler id detection also provides a CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER
value, use it unconditionally. It is known to be the compiler
that is actually in use by IDE builds in VS and Xcode. Do not
let a stray cache entry try to say otherwise.
Teach the ctest_update implementation to use the p4 command-line
client to perform updates and extract the list of changes.
Add a CTest.UpdateP4 test like those that exist already for the other
version control tools. Make the test available when p4 and the p4d
server are found. During the test launch p4d in the background to
serve a repository from the test directory. Then direct the client
toward this server for the duration of the test.
One way to use clang as a cross-compiler is to create
a symlink named <target>-clang, which is equivalent to
running
clang -target <target>
Extract the toolchain prefix to find the binutils executables.
When the user or toolchain file sets CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER to a name
without a path we use find_program with CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER_WITH_PATH
to search for the tool. Remove the temporary cache entry afterward to
avoid exposing it to projects. It is not set by other logic paths so no
one should be using it.
The source files are already processed by cmQtAutomoc to look for
moc includes, so extend that to also look for ui_ includes and
find corresponding .ui files to process.
This replaces the need to invoke qt4_wrap_ui().
As the ui files are not likely to be part of the SOURCES of the
target, store the options associated with them separately in the
cmMakefile for querying during the autogen run.

Even though this variable gets set to CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER-NOTFOUND when

Add "Module Documentation" and "Find Modules" subsections. Add to

Previously if headers required to check the size of a type can be

we expect the compiler to be used only with VS >= 7 tools, assume MSVC
version 13.0 if _MSC_VER is not greater than 1300.
Teach CMake(C|CXX|Fortran)CompilerId* to report the MSVC version
simulated by the Intel compiler, if any. Refactor the Windows-Intel
platform information helper module to load Windows-MSVC instead of
duplicating the information. Teach Windows-MSVC to understand when
it is loaded as the simulated Fortran compiler (its preprocessor is
simulated).
It designed to search for implementation of backtrace(3) routine.
Currently it is used in OpenBSD Ports for building Clementine

A lot of input from brad.king@ and neundorf@.
The Intel Fortran compiler needs the /fpp option to enable C
preprocessing. Without the option the compiler may warn and ignore
preprocessor lines instead of failing with an error. Detect the
warning and treat it as failure so that we move on to try /fpp and
detect the correct id. Without this it works only by luck because
Intel is the first compiler id in our detection source file.

Previously if headers required to check if a struct has a member can be

compiler fails. As a consequence, the result variable would be set to
false, even if the struct has that particular member.

When FindHDF5 was first added in commit e6734068 (Add HDF5 find

refactoring in commit 04d4dc33 (SelectLibraryConfigurations: Use
-NOTFOUND instead of copying the vars, 2013-07-08) changed undocumented
behavior on which the original workaround relied. The result puts
entries like HDF5_hdf5_LIBRARY_DEBUG-NOTFOUND in HDF5_LIBRARIES.

In commit 2a797539 (FindPNG: improve library detection, 2013-07-27) we

old PNG_LIBRARY value we must honor it instead of searching.
While at it, mark PNG_LIBRARY_RELEASE and PNG_LIBRARY_DEBUG as advanced

CMake's intended interface for linking to explicit object files (marked

custom command outputs that happen to be named "*.obj". CMake puts
external object files in a dedicated source group anyway.

expected executable the try_compile command immediately reports an error
because the COPY_FILE fails.
Tolerate COPY_FILE failure without stopping the overall configuration
process by using the try_compile COPY_FILE_ERROR option to capture the
error message. Log the full error to CMakeError.log and simply report
failure to detect the ABI as if compilation had failed.
Teach the RunCMake.Configure test to cover this case and verify that the
messages show up as expected both in stdout and in CMakeError.log.
The VS IDE sets the environment variable VS_UNICODE_OUTPUT when
executing build rules in order to tell MS tools to report output through
a back door instead of through stdout/stderr. Unset this variable so
that CMake can capture or properly redirect all output from processes it
runs even when running inside a VS IDE build environment.
This generalizes the special cases fixed by commit 80d045b0 (When
GetPrerequisites.cmake runs dumpbin while running inside the VS IDE...,
2008-05-01) and commit 44aff73d (ExternalProject: Avoid bleed-through
output when logging, 2011-01-06), so drop special handling of
VS_UNICODE_OUTPUT in those instances.
The command line string passed to javac can exceed the 8191-character
limit on Windows when there are a large number of files to compile.
To avoid this, the list of sources is written to a file which is then
passed to javac as an argfile. Spaces in paths are dealt with by
enclosing each file in quotes, and separating files with a newline.
The linker flags for setting the compatibility and current versions of
libraries on Darwin are set for the supported Fortran compilers.
Set CMAKE_Fortran_CREATE_SHARED_LIBRARY for the NAG Fortran compiler to
have no space after <SONAME_FLAG> so the NAG compiler can parse the
argument correctly.
SelectLibraryConfigurations module currently cache and mark as advanced
the variable ${basename}_LIBRARY.
${basename}_LIBRARY_RELEASE and ${basename}_LIBRARY_DEBUG are usually
cached, because they often come from find_library().
${basename}_LIBRARY on the other hand is always of type
"optimized;${${basename}_LIBRARY_RELEASE};debug;${${basename}_LIBRARY_DEBUG}"
or just "${basename}_LIBRARY_RELEASE" or "${basename}_LIBRARY_DEBUG" if
only one version of the library is not found, if both have the same
value, or if configuration types are not supported.
Caching and marking as advanced just ${basename}_LIBRARY_RELEASE and
${basename}_LIBRARY_DEBUG is enough, just by modifying these two
variables, the user has enough control on finding the library, and
having 3 variables is redundant and confusing.
We support multiple commands per external project step by using
the COMMAND keyword. Document this behavior and show an example.
While at it, document that shell operators and current working
directory behavior is not defined.
In CMakeTestFortranCompiler we build a test program using a Fortran 90
construct to check whether the compiler supports the language. Some
compilers have options to require explicit variable types. Fix the test
program to use an explicit variable type so it passes under such a
configuration.

Document the logic that parses for backward compatibility the old
variables that were used to control add_jar prior to named argument
support. In particular, document that the reason this logic exists is
for backward compatibility, and that new features do not need to add to
it.
This fixes#14210. In 2.8.10 CMakeDetermineCompiler.cmake was
modified (or added), and now the _INIT variable must not
be set to a list anymore, before it worked.

For clang, this allows passing -target <triple> to the compiler, and
for qcc, -V<arch> using toolchain files containing something like
set(triple arm-linux-gnueabihf)
set(CMAKE_C_COMPILER "/usr/bin/clang")
set(CMAKE_C_COMPILER_TARGET ${triple})
set(CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER "/usr/bin/clang++")
set(CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER_TARGET ${triple})
or
set(arch gcc_ntoarmv7le)
set(CMAKE_C_COMPILER /opt/qnx650/host/linux/x86/usr/bin/qcc)
set(CMAKE_C_COMPILER_TARGET ${arch})
set(CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER /opt/qnx650/host/linux/x86/usr/bin/QCC)
set(CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER_TARGET ${arch})
Both clang and qcc are inherently cross compiler( driver)s.

8576b3f OS X: Add support for @rpath in export files.
00d71bd Xcode: Add rpath support in Xcode generator.
94e7fef OS X: Add RPATH support for Mac.
RPATH support is activated on targets that have the MACOSX_RPATH
property turned on.
For install time, it is also useful to set INSTALL_RPATH to help
find dependent libraries with an @rpath in their install name.
Also adding detection of rpath conflicts when using frameworks.
That will allow things like this:
find_package(Qt4)
qt4_generate_moc(myfile.h moc_myfile.cpp TARGET foo) # Note, foo target doesn't
# exist until below.
add_library(foo ...)
The qt4_generate_moc call would use the INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES from
the foo target using generator expressions. Currently it reads
the INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES directory property, meaning that include_directories()
is required.
Support for the TARGET is also added to qt4_wrap_cpp, but not qt4_automoc,
as that is deprecated in favor of the AUTOMOC target property.
The moc tool reports failure if the Q_INTERFACES macro is used with
an argument which has not appeared with Q_DECLARE_INTERFACE, so that is
the basis of the unit test.
The command line arguments are now always written to a file, which is
passed to moc as the @atfile. This was already the case on Windows, but
now it is used everywhere. The reason for that is that it is not currently
possible to expand the list of includes from a target directly in
a add_custom_command invokation (though that may become possible in the
future). There is not a big disadvantage to using the file anyway on
unix, so having one code path instead of two is also a motivation.
This corresponds to the g++ and clang++
option -fvisibility-inlines-hidden on linux. On Windows with MinGW,
this corresponds to -fno-keep-inline-dllexport. That option is
not supported by clang currently.
This is initialized by CMAKE_<LANG>_VISIBILITY_PRESET. The target
property is used as the operand to the -fvisibility= compile option
with GNU compilers and clang.
In commit 5b9149e0 (FindBoost: Overhaul caching and search repeat
behavior, 2012-09-24) we refactored the internal library search to use a
_Boost_FIND_LIBRARY macro to wrap around find_library calls. However,
CMake macros re-process escape sequences when evaluating calls inside
the macro after substituting placeholders (a historical bug). In order
to avoid escape sequences, convert backslashes to forward slashes before
passing arguments to the _Boost_FIND_LIBRARY macro.
The line
set( ${basename}_LIBRARY )
removes the normal variable, but if the corresponding cached variable is
present then line
list( APPEND ${basename}_LIBRARY optimized "${_libname}" )
uses that and fails. Replace the original line with
set( ${basename}_LIBRARY "" )
to set the normal variable to empty instead of unsetting it.
In Qt 5.1, Qt5::Core has a INTERFACE_QT_MAJOR_VERSION property
of '5', and since CMake 2.8.11, Qt4::QtCore has an
INTERFACE_QT_MAJOR_VERSION of '4'. This was introduced in
commit 4aa10cd6 (FindQt4: Set the INTERFACE_QT_MAJOR_VERSION for
Qt4::QtCore, 2013-03-16), to produce an error if Qt 4 and Qt 5
are erroneously used by the same target. This can also be used
however to determine the Qt major version, and therefore the
particular moc executable to use during automoc steps. This means
that targets in a single buildsystem can use a selection of Qt 4
and Qt 5, and still take advantage of the CMAKE_AUTOMOC feature
without conflicting.
The ExternalData_LINK_CONTENT option tells ExternalData to convert real
data files it finds into content links and to "stage" the original
content in a ".ExternalData_<algo>_<hash>" file. However, after a data
object has been staged it is possible that a user-provided pattern in
the "REGEX:" option will later match the staged object file. We must
not process staged object files even when a user pattern matches them.
Fix the implementation to not match a staged object file as a normal
data file for conversion. Extend the RunCMake.ExternalData test to
cover this case.
Modify FindProtobuf.cmake to find the pthread library on UNIX platforms,
and to add the same to PROTOBUF_LIBRARIES, as this is a link dependency
of libraries using the protobuf headers.
The variables in this module are used to configure a header file
with defines whose name depends on the name of the target.
As valid names of targets may be invalid for use as defines, convert
the names of the defines used to C identifiers first. This is already
done in C++ code for the DEFINE_SYMBOL property.
This is not as simple as ensuring that the BASE_NAME is a C identifier,
because most of the define names are configurable, and because use of
a BASE_NAME which is not a C identifier, such as 4square can become a
C identifier by specifying a prefix in the generate_export_header
macro.
The significant issue with MODULEs is that on Windows, the exported
symbols must be dllexported and they are not imported.
In other export macro implementations this is done by defining an
export macro outside of any ifdef which depends on definitions set
on the command line. However, with cmake we already expect the
DEFINE_SYMBOL to be defined, so the regular EXPORT macro can be
used by such plugins.

Since Java is a portable language, if you want to use Java when

Commit dac78148 (...makes the mingw cross compiler work out of the
box..., 2007-08-02) added to CMAKE_SYSTEM_PROGRAM_PATH and
CMAKE_SYSTEM_LIBRARY_PATH paths like "/bin" and "/lib" with no Windows
drive letter so that cross-compiling to Windows from Linux would search
these paths under CMAKE_FIND_ROOT_PATH. Later commit 2a782880 (...use
CMAKE_SYSTEM_PREFIX_PATH when possible, 2008-01-16) generalized this
approach by instead adding "/" to CMAKE_SYSTEM_PREFIX_PATH.
Both commits assumed that the paths would never match anything on
Windows hosts without a drive letter. However, Windows evaluates these
paths relative to the current working drive letter so find_* commands
may report paths like "/lib/..." when paths like "c:/lib/..." exist on
what happens to be current drive. Such drive-less paths are not
reliable when the working drive changes, so we should not use them.
Fix WindowsPaths.cmake to add '/' to CMAKE_SYSTEM_PREFIX_PATH only when
cross-compiling to Windows from a non-Windows host. This will avoid
searching and finding local paths without a drive letter on Windows.
Set the locale to C while running the compiler for these checks because
we match the resulting warning messages in English only.

Use of the mis-spelled variable name 'CMAKE_CROSS_COMPILING' was
introduced by commit 4b793ad1 (FindOpenSSL: find cross-compiled OpenSSL

Update the CMAKE_<LANG>_LINK_EXECUTABLE rule variable to invoke the
linker directly instead of through the compiler. We already do this
for DLL linking with CMAKE_<LANG>_CREATE_SHARED_LIBRARY.
This also works around a VS 6 cl bug. While invoking the link tool
internally it fails to correctly quote flags like /pdb:... with spaces
in the value.
The MS tools create two types of PDB files as explained here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/yd4f8bd1%28v=vs.71%29.aspxhttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/yd4f8bd1%28v=vs.80%29.aspxhttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/yd4f8bd1%28v=vs.90%29.aspxhttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/yd4f8bd1%28v=vs.100%29.aspx
One is created by the compiler (/Fd) and the other by the linker (/pdb).
The two options should not specify the same file. Split them up.
In the VS IDE generators, simply drop ProgramDataBaseFileName to
take the VS default "/Fd$(IntDir)vc$(PlatformToolsetVersion).pdb".
In the Makefile generators, set "/Fd" on the compile line to be
the directory containing object files (with a trailing slash the
compiler will add the "vc$(PlatformToolsetVersion).pdb" filename
automatically). Drop the /Fd option from the exe link command
line and add "/pdb" instead (already done for dll linking).
Update these rules for both MSVC and Intel tools.
Drop support for PDB_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY and PDB_NAME in STATIC
libraries because the generated .pdb files are only from /Fd
and not real linker-generated .pdb files. Update documentation to
clarify that the PDB_* properties are only for linker .pdb files.
This regresses the PDBDirectoryAndName test for STATIC libraries.
Since it is not clear at this time what should be done for STATIC
library .pdb files, comment out the relevant portion of the test
and leave a TODO comment.
This fixes bug #0013609, and is a possible solution to #0012864 as well.
The later will be completely fixed in another way. Both approaches
needs to be implemented because the current one is more automatic.

In commit 0c727b90 (install(EXPORT): Force absolute paths for usr-move,
2013-03-08) and commit d4774140 (configure_package_config_file: force
absolute paths for usr-move, 2013-01-24) we supported Linux
distributions implementing the "/usr move" by assuming that installation
to (/usr)?/lib(64)? represents a non-relocatable system package.
When cross-compiling one may prepare a package for installation into a
system location on a target machine but install the package files on the
*host* machine inside another path for use with CMAKE_FIND_ROOT_PATH.
In this case the package development files must still be relocatable.
Handle "/usr move" with a new approach that works with relocatable
files. Teach configure_package_config_file and install(EXPORT) to
generate special logic in a package configuration file or targets file
for installation under (/usr)?/lib(64)?. Teach the file to recognize
when it is loaded through a symlink that refers to the same realpath as
its original install destination. In such a case, use the original
install prefix. Otherwise, compute the prefix relative to the current
file location to make it relocatable.

Modify add_jar to fully use named arguments, rather than cmake
variables, for specifying output names/directories, etc. For backward
compatibility, the old variables are still honored if set, although
named arguments will override them.
Modify add_jar to (partly) use cmake_parse_arguments, and to require
using the named argument list INCLUDE_JARS to specify jar files (or jar
targets) to use as dependencies when creating a jar. This preserves the
ability to have such, while restoring the historic behavior that jar
files listed as sources are ignored. (The code now explicitly ignores
them, however, rather than adding them to an unused local variable, so
that it is more clear that nothing is being done with them.)
In GNU.cmake, -isystem is not used if APPLE is set. However, Clang has
