Create a cmLinkImplItem class derived from cmLinkItem so more
information can be added to link implementation entries than link
interface entries. Convert the LinkImplementation Libraries member to
hold it. Update client sites accordingly.
Send status messages to the CTest HANDLER_OUTPUT log since they are part
of the script handler output. This also ensures they appear inline with
other test command handler output.
Because the 8bit string encoding in libarchive can be different than
the 8bit string encoding in CMake, change to call the wide version
of libarchive functions. They are different if CMake is configured
to use UTF-8 as the internal encoding.
Create helper functions for some libarchive calls to use wstring
internally on platforms supporting it.
Commit v2.8.11~310^2~1 (Keep track of INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES as a vector of
structs., 2012-11-19) added special case of INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES
for the purpose of origin-tracking of individual entries in the property. It
introduced a bug in that it returned an empty string instead of '0' in the
case that no includes have been set.
Commit v2.8.11~289^2~2 (Handle INTERFACE properties transitively for includes
and defines., 2012-09-23) introduced transitive handling of the property
through the link implementation, together with a whitelist of properties
which would be evaluated transitively. Because of the bug introduced
previously, the 'prop' in TargetPropertyNode is non-null,
meaning that the content (the empty string) would be evaluated as a generator
expression. This was harmless as the follow-up code was only for 'INTERFACE_'
variants of target properties, so the effect was the same.
Commits v2.8.11~280^2~2 (Keep track of properties used to determine linker
libraries., 2012-11-05) and v2.8.11~280^2~1 (Add API to calculate
link-interface-dependent bool properties or error., 2013-01-06) added a way
to track and report errors on properties which both determine and are
determined by the link implementation. This was later used in generator
expression evaluation by commit v2.8.11~252^2~2 (Make INTERFACE determined
properties readable in generator expressions., 2013-01-19). If a property
is unset (null), and the link implementation of the target was not being
evaluated, this commit made it possible to evaluate the property from the
link implementation instead. If the link implementation was being evaluated,
an empty string was returned from the generator expression evaluation, which
might be later reported as an error.
The above logic was written for 'compatible interface' properties, but in
fact it should have also included other properties. Because of the
empty-string-instead-of-null bug, this code block is not entered for the
INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES property. At this point, however, the bug still does
not significantly affect behavior, because the follow-up code is still a
no-op for the INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES property, and an empty string is returned
regardless. Commit v2.8.11~189^2~6 (Use the link information as a source of
compile definitions and includes., 2013-02-12) refactored the logic, but also
without a change in behavior.
Commit v2.8.11~156^2~2 (Expand includes and defines transitively
in 'external' genexes., 2013-02-13) refactored the logic again, this time with
a change of behavior. The INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES property was then mapped to
INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES during transitive generator expression
evaluation. Because the transitive evaluation involved evaluation of the
link implementation, this introduced a recursive loop and a segfault with
code like:

As there is no real use-case for reading a target property like that while
evaluating the link implementation, this went unnoticed. The same pattern
was followed for other special-cased reads of transitive target properties
such as COMPILE_DEFINITIONS.
The segfault was fixed in the parent commit, but change the property to
return null when appropriate for other future uses.
Commit v2.8.11~156^2~2 (Expand includes and defines transitively
in 'external' genexes., 2013-02-13) introduced a recursive loop
and a stack overflow during evaluation of a link implementation
which depends on a transitive property, such as
add_library(empty1 ...)

There is no use-case for code like that currently, but it should not
cause a stack overflow.
Avoid the recursion by reporting an error early if a case like this
is found.
A library or executable target that consists only of a reference to an
object library may have no sources to compile or custom commands to run.
The command in the target is the link (or archive) command. Add missing
order-only dependencies to link commands so that target ordering
dependencies are satisfied for it without depending on an intermediate
compilation rule.
Extend the ObjectLibrary test to cover this case.

Ninja generator ensures that all custom commands being target
dependencies are run before other source compilations. However in case
there are no such dependencies it currently generates empty phony rules
which clutter the build graph.
Teach the Ninja generator to produce such rules only when necessary.
Actually custom command can write wherever it wants to, such as temporary
folder or source folder, possibly violating rules that only build folder should
be affected. Therefore we should consider custom command dependency at any path
as possible side effect adding phony rule.
We avoid adding phony rules for regular source files (since the paraent
commit) so we no longer need the in-build-tree test to avoid them.
Since commit v2.8.12~248^2 (Ninja: Custom Command file depends don't
need to exist before building, 2013-06-07) all explicit dependencies
inside build folder were considered as possible build command
side-effects and phony rules were produced for them in case they don't
exist when starting to build. This is unnecessary since regular compile
inputs need to exist or cmake will fail. Moreover the exception for
sources having GENERATED property that can be missing is already handled
by WriteAssumedSourceDependencies.
This fixes unwanted phony rules for all regular source files when doing
in-source build, causing Ninja not complain when such files gets missing,
i.e. during development. Also this reduces number of rules in ninja.build.
Now only custom command dependencies are considered as possible side-effects.

The ctest launcher code did not respect the number of errors and
warnings limits. Limit the number of launcher report fragments that we
report in the final submission.
Use LinkImplementationPropertyEntries directly instead of asking
GetProperty to construct a string for LINK_LIBRARIES. This gives us
access to the entry backtraces.
If ComputeLinkImplementationLanguages were ever to cause
GetLinkImplementationLibraries to be invoked then a LinkImplMap entry
may appear in the middle of computing it in GetLinkInformation. Instead
create the map entry up front and store in it boolean values indicating
which pieces of the LinkImplementation structure have been populated.
This approach leads to shorter code that is easier to follow too.
Members of the cmTargetInternals structure do not need to be made
'mutable' even to cache data because there is no reason for the
internal methods to be 'const'.
Teach GetTransitivePropertyTargets to use the GetLinkInterfaceLibraries
method with usage_requirements_only==true instead of evaluating the
INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES property directly. This avoids duplicate
evaluations and makes use of the caching done by
GetLinkInterfaceLibraries.
Add a 'usage_requirements_only' parameter to GetLinkInterfaceLibraries
and supporting internal APIs to pass through to ExpandLinkItems so it
knows whether to use SetTransitivePropertiesOnly while evaluating
generator expressions.
Simplify the implementation of GetTransitivePropertyTargets by using
ExpandLinkItems with usage_requirements_only==true to evaluate the
generator expressions in the link interface for us.
Add a 'usage_requirements_only' parameter to ExpandLinkItems so that it
knows whether to use SetTransitivePropertiesOnly while evaluating
generator expressions. Update existing call sites to pass 'false' since
they are for linking and not usage requirements.
Since commit 6557382d (stringapi: Use strings for program
paths, 2014-02-24), cmGlobalGenerator::GenerateBuildCommand
takes the make program path as a std::string. Fix the lookup
in cmCPackGenerator::InstallProjectViaInstallCMakeProjects to
use GetSafeDefinition for CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM to avoid possible
construction of std::string from a NULL.

Installing large directories, e.g., the output of a doxygen run, prints
one line per file resulting in too much noise in the build output. Add
an option to the install(DIRECTORY) command to not print anything upon
make install.

When installing a DIRECTORY, do not pre-create the DESTINATION. The
cmFileCopier::InstallDirectory method will create the directory anyway.
Give it a chance to detect whether the directory already exists or not.
Extend the cmake command-line interface to support
cmake -E env [--unset=NAME]... [NAME=VALUE]... COMMAND [ARG]...
This will be useful to run processes with modified environments
without using a shell or a full "cmake -P" script to wrap it.
Extend the RunCMake.CommandLine test to cover success and failure cases.

Teach cmDependsFortran::ModulesDiffer to look for the gzip magic numbers
at the beginning of the module file. If found, assume the module was
produced by gfortran >= 4.9. The modules do not appear to contain the
date as earlier versions did so we can compare the content directly
and do not actually need to decompress.
Since commit 84fdc9921 (stringapi: Pass configuration names as strings,
2014-02-09), it is not safe to use GetDefinition("CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE")
without checking the return value. Use GetSafeDefinition instead so
that a missing definition is treated as an empty string like code paths
did prior to the above commit.

Use GetLinkImplementationLibraries instead of GetDirectLinkLibraries
because it tells us whether there will be any libraries to link after
evaluating generator expressions. Also GetDirectLinkLibraries will be
dropped soon.
Instead of storing just the string names in these structures, lookup any
target associated with each item and store its cmTarget pointer. Use
the cmLinkItem class to hold the name and pointer together. Update
client sites to use the pre-stored lookup result instead of looking up
the target name again.
Create a cmTarget::LookupLinkItems helper method to handle the lookup.
Since lookups are now moving from cmComputeLinkDepends::AddLinkEntries
to cmTarget::LookupLinkItems, move use of CheckCMP0004 to the latter.
This drops use of CheckCMP0004 from entries added for _LIB_DEPENDS
variables by cmComputeLinkDepends::AddVarLinkEntries, but I do not
think that use was intentional originally anyway.
Add a method like GetUtilities but that provides the target names
already looked up and resolved to cmTarget pointers internally. Update
call site in cmComputeTargetDepends::AddTargetDepend to use the
already-found target instead of looking it up again.
Many items named in target_link_libraries calls are targets, but not
all. Create a cmLinkItem type that acts like std::string so it can name
an item but also has a pointer to a cmTarget that is the result of
looking up the item name in the referencing target's scope. This will
be useful to avoid duplicate lookup operations later.
In cmTarget, cmGeneratorTarget, and cmGeneratorExpressionEvaluator, fix
target name lookups to occur in the cmMakefile context of the target
that referenced the name, not the current 'head' target. The context
matters for imported targets because they are directory-scoped instead
of globally unique. We already do this in cmComputeLinkDepends and
cmComputeTargetDepends.
Extend the InterfaceLibrary test with an example covering this behavior.
Move generator expression evaluation for imported library lists out of
GetImportInfo and into a new GetImportLinkInterface helper. This avoids
duplicating the computation and storage of all imported target info just
because some of it is parameterized on the 'head' target.
Many of the 'head' arguments added by commit v2.8.11~289^2~1 (Make
linking APIs aware of 'head' target, 2013-01-04) turned out not to be
needed. The "link implementation" of a target never needs to be
computed with anything but itself as the 'head' target (except for
CMP0022 OLD behavior because then it is the link interface).
Remove the unused 'head' target paths. Add "internal" versions of
cmTarget::GetDirectLinkLibraries and GetLinkImplementationLibraries
to support the CMP0022 OLD behavior without otherwise exposing the
'head' target option of these methods.
Create an ExpandLinkItems method to handle evaluation of generator
expressions in a library list and expansion of the ;-list into a vector.
Replace some duplicate copies of the implementation with calls to the
new helper.

It may happen that CMake include is an explicit dependency for some command,
while all CMake includes are set phony in WriteTargetRebuildManifest, this may
lead to duplicate phony generate rules which causes ninja warnings.
We need to remove implicit CMake includes in WriteUnknownExplicitDependencies.
This fixes FindCUDA ninja warnings.
For testing purposes CMake creates dummy memory checkers. The dummy checkers
are in the CMake build tree. Before this change when the path contained the
string valgrind, such as CMake-valgrind, all the checkers were thought to
be valgrind, and this caused tests to fail.
Instead printing complete help cmake/ccmake now prints only Usage section and
extra information how to get more help or start your build.
Implementation Details:
Usage help type was renamed to Help, and new Usage was introduces that prints
only command line usage information without any extra details.
Commands add some extra information when no arguments are passed.

Since commit v2.8.12~300^2~1 (CLI: Suppress the unused warning if the
key value pair is cached, 2013-05-16), cmake::SetCacheArgs saves a
cachedValue pointer and may cause the memory to be freed (by setting the
cache entry) before reading it again. Fix this by saving the old value
in a separate string.
Each project listed in a .sln must be marked (or not) as part of the
"default build" for each configuration. For targets created by the
add_custom_target() command we add them to the default build if they
are not excluded in some way or if another target depends on them.
In the top-level .sln, a custom target is excluded if it is not
created with the ALL option to add_custom_target. In subdirectory
.sln files, a target may also be excluded if it is not within the
directory and is brought into the solution only due to a dependency
from another target in the solution.
Fix the "IsPartOfDefaultBuild" and "IsDependedOn" methods to check
every target to be included in the .sln for a dependency on the
custom target. Otherwise transitive dependencies through targets
not in the current subdirectory will not be considered.
Extend the SubProject test with a custom target to cover this case.

Add the ability to parse the XML output of the Jacoco tool.
Jacoco (www.eclemma.org/jacoco) is a Java coverage tool.
Add and integrate a class for the parser and
include a test which utilizes the new parser.
Since commit v2.8.12~300^2~1 (CLI: Suppress the unused warning if the
key value pair is cached, 2013-05-16), cmake::SetCacheArgs saves a
cachedValue pointer and may cause the memory to be freed (by setting the
cache entry) before reading it again. Fix this by saving the old value
in a separate string.
Changing all categories with LC_ALL causes test failures in some locales.
For example, in some locales, the decimal characer could be a comma instead of period.
Factor a WriteMSToolConfigurationValues helper method out of the
cmVisualStudio10TargetGenerator::WriteProjectConfigurationValues method
to isolate the configuration settings specific to MS tools.
The cmVisualStudio10TargetGenerator::ComputeClOptions method is
only called when the target type compiles, so do not duplicate
that check in the implementation.
When a binary output file is to have no extension, the TargetExt
element in the vcxproj cannot be left empty because VS will choose
a default extension. Instead use "." because the Windows filesystem
will treat that as an empty extension.
In cmVisualStudio10TargetGenerator, convert the static functions
currently used to lookup the flag table for each tool into class
methods. This avoids passing the this->LocalGenerator member and
gives the methods access to other information that may be useful
in the future.

Create a Platform/Android module that includes Platform/Linux since
Android is based on Linux. Provide only the minimal settings needed to
get builds with Android NDK toolchains to work.
Disable use of RPATH since the Android loader ignores it and we cannot
predict the install destination anyway.
Android supports soname but shared library names must end in ".so" and
we cannot represent the versioned names with associated symlinks on all
host operating systems anyway. However, we do want the SONAME of
library files to be set so that linking to them by path to the library
file produces NEEDED entries with the soname and not the path. Add a
new CMAKE_PLATFORM_NO_VERSIONED_SONAME setting to tell the
cmTarget::GetLibraryNames method that not to use the VERSION or
SOVERSION target properties in the soname.
In commit 84fdc992 (stringapi: Pass configuration names as strings,
2014-02-09) a few code paths for the Xcode 1.5 single-configuration
generator were not updated to use an empty configuration name instead of
a NULL pointer when no configuration is specified in CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE.
Fix them now.
Some compilers do not offer an option to specify the path to the object
file, but rather only to the directory in which to place the object
file. See issue 14876 for some examples. Add a new OBJECT_FILE_DIR
placeholder to specify the directory containing the object file for the
current compilation. This may differ from the main target OBJECT_DIR
when the object corresponds to a source in a subdirectory.
Delay use of CMAKE_GENERATOR_TOOLSET until the CMakeSystem.cmake
file has been configured and loaded during the first project() or
enable_language() command. This gives the toolchain file named by
CMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_FILE a chance to set CMAKE_GENERATOR_TOOLSET. This
point is still early enough to set the generator toolset prior to
the initialization of any languages that might use the toolset.
The cmake::GeneratorToolset member variable remains an indication
of what was specified by the -T option or loaded from the cache.
It does not need to be updated based on the toolchain file setting.
The cmMakefile::TryCompile can still pass cmake::GeneratorToolset
into the inner instance because the try-compiled project will do
platform and language initialization using the CMakeSystem module
configured for the outer project.
Extend the RunCMake.GeneratorToolset test with cases that use a
toolchain file to set CMAKE_GENERATOR_TOOLSET.
Divide the cmGlobalVisualStudio10Generator "PlatformToolset" member into
two members representing the generator-selected default toolset and the
user-specified CMAKE_GENERATOR_TOOLSET value. Prefer the user-specified
value, if any, and then fall back to the generator-selected default.
Add support for Cobertura coverage files written by Java.
Add a test which uses the report from a Java run of Cobertura to calculate coverage.
In the documentation of CTEST_COVERAGE_COMMAND, give a sample .sh file to merge
the Cobertura .ser files and generate the XML report from the merged file.
The coverage.py tool writes out an XML that conforms to the Cobertura
Coverage tool standard. Rename the cmParsePythonCoverage files to
instead be cmParseCoberturaCoverage.
If we fail to create the generator named by CMAKE_GENERATOR, exit
with an error message instead of crashing. While at it, fix the
wording of the error message when CMAKE_GENERATOR is not set.
Extend the RunCMake.CommandLine test with cases covering the
"cmake --build" option when the named directory does not provide
a CMakeCache.txt with a valid CMAKE_GENERATOR.
The VS 7-9 IDEs parse .vcproj file boolean values in lower or upper
case. The .NET XML parsing chokes on anything but "true", "false", "0",
"1". Teach our generators to use lower-case names since they will work
for both parsers. Our VS >= 10 flag tables already use lower-case.
While tracing dependencies of a target, cmTargetTraceDependencies
follows sources by full path to determine if the source is to be
produced by a custom command. Commit 4959f341 (cmSourceFileLocation:
Collapse full path for directory comparisons., 2014-03-27) changed
the storage of target sources to be in the form of a normalized
path instead of an unnormalized path.
The path is followed by looking it up in a mapping via
cmMakefile::GetSourceFileWithOutput to acquire an appropriate
cmSourceFile. The mapping is populated with the OUTPUT components
of add_custom_command invocations, however it is populated with
unnormalized paths. This means that the tracing logic does not
find appropriate cmSourceFiles, and does not generate appropriate
build rules for the generated sources.
Normalize the paths in the OUTPUT components of add_custom_command
to resolve this.
The paths in the DEPENDS component of add_custom_command are also
not normalized, leading to the same problem again. Normalize the
depends paths after generator evaluation and expansion.
Teach set_property and get_property an "INSTALL" property type to be
associated with install-tree file paths. Make the properties available
to CPack for use during packaging. Add a "prop_inst" Sphinx domain
object type for documentation of such properties.
If the coverage.py source file is not found in the source directory, the
build directory is first searched before raising an error.
This is necessary because it is a valid workflow to build a Python
package from source, then install this package to a virtualenv that
lives in the build directory. Tests will run against this deployed
package and therefore the covered source files will be found in a
subdirectory of the build directory, and not anywhere in the source
directory.
Since commit bef93dc5 (Couple of changes: cache variables now have a map
of properties, 2002-09-11) the cmCacheManager::AddCacheDefinition method
accesses its map entry by reference. However, the commit left the
original entry assignment at the end of the method. With Apple Clang
5.1 and libc++ this self-assignment destroys the cache entry property
map.
Drop the self assignment. Also drop the condition around the call to
UnwatchUnusedCli since it was a self-comparison that must always have
been true.
Teach cmake::HandleDeleteCacheVariables to tolerate a missing HELPSTRING
(NULL pointer) when saving cache entries. In the absence of other bugs
this should not be possible, but avoid the crash just in case.
When CMP0053 is in WARN mode, variables get expanded twice, leaking the
fact that the string was expanded twice and changing behavior. Instead,
suppress variable watches when running the expansion to trigger the
CMP0053 warning.
The ALLOWED_UNKNOWN_VARIABLE_READ_ACCESS access type was switched on an
undocumented variable and its lookup caused an unnecessary performance
impact. Remove it.
Allow setting build properties based on the features available
for a target. The availability of features is determined at
generate-time by evaluating the link implementation.
Ensure that the <LANG>_STANDARD determined while evaluating
COMPILE_FEATURES in the link implementation is not lower than that
provided by the INTERFACE of the link implementation. This is
similar to handling of transitive properties such as
POSITION_INDEPENDENT_CODE.

When we kill a child we send SIGSTOP first so that we can traverse its
child processes recursively. On unwinding the recursion we then send
SIGKILL. Current Cygwin has trouble when both signals are sent in quick
succession by the parent process. Add a usleep(1) after sending the
first signal to give up our time slice and give Cygwin a chance to
process the first signal before sending the second.

"explicitLibraries" could never be taken for STATIC libraries, so the
logic to propagate languages existed only in the non-explicitLibraries
code path. After that commit, INTERFACE_LINK_LIBRARIES could be set for
STATIC libraries to cause the "explicitLibraries" code path to be taken.
The commit also left the old non-explicitLibraries code path conditional
on CMP0022 not being set to NEW. Thus link language propagation was
left missing from two cases by that commit.

This file is smaller and has cmcov/mcov files that have data for only

Add source file properties to control Xcode file type attributes:
XCODE_EXPLICIT_FILE_TYPE => explicitFileType
XCODE_LAST_KNOWN_FILE_TYPE => lastKnownFileType
Add a RunCMake.XcodeProject test to verify generated project content.
Choose the attribute name and file type and send them through a single
attribute generation code path. Compute the file extension only when
needed. Leave the file type selection logic indented in a block so it
can be made conditional later.
Output sent through these APIs is logically part of the CMake process
output. Capture it with callbacks and display it in the cmake-gui
output window along with other messages.
Factor a common callback type out of StdoutCallback. Add an equivalent
StderrCallback. While at it, use "size_t" for the data length instead
of "int".
Teach "ctest --build-and-test" to capture the Stderr callback because
output sent through it is part of the logical CMake process output.
Add properties and variables corresponding to CXX equivalents.
Add features for c_function_prototypes (C90), c_restrict (C99),
c_variadic_macros (C99) and c_static_assert (C11). This feature
set can be extended later.
Add a <PREFIX>_RESTRICT symbol define to WriteCompilerDetectionHeader
to conditionally represent the c_restrict feature.
Add ERROR_SHARING_VIOLATION to the set of errors (previously including
only ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED) that cause a rename (MoveFile) on Windows to
retry. The condition was observed when two renames to the same target

Since commit v3.0.0-rc1~305^2 (Ninja: deptype msvc for Intel's compiler
on Windows, 2013-11-25) we used "deps = msvc" for the Intel compiler.
This is correct only on Windows. On Linux we still want "deps = gcc".
Fix the logic to use "deps = msvc" when the compiler id or the "simulate
id" is "MSVC". This will preserve the behavior on Intel for Windows and
fix the behavior on Intel for Linux. In the future this should be
converted to a platform information module variable.
These policies should be checked at the call site that tries to access
the LOCATION or SOURCES property, not the directory scope containing the
target. Thread the caller context through cmTarget::GetProperty to use
for checking the policy setting and emitting a diagnostic with proper

Use the CPack DragNDrop generator instead of the deprecated PackageMaker
tool to package CMake itself. This provides an installation experience
that is more consistent with other products on OS X and allows users to
select the destination directory easily. It also avoids installing
"/private/var/db/receipts/com.Kitware.CMake.*" receipts that must be
removed by "pkgutil --forget com.Kitware.CMake" before another version
of CMake can be installed.
The DragNDrop installer does not support a post-flight script, so drop
our configuration of it. The cmake-gui has an option for installing
symbolic links to enable command-line use. In practice users may simply
add "/Applications/CMake.app/Contents/bin" to their PATH instead.
Introduce a new implementation of ExpandVariablesInString and select
between the old and new implementations based on policy CMP0053.
Instead of cmCommandArgumentParserHelper, use a custom parser with our
own stack. This is much faster and works well for our simple grammar.
The new behavior of CMP0053 should expand @VAR@ syntax only in certain
contexts. All existing EVIS callers use "replaceAt == true" so
hard-code our call to the old implementation. Update the signature to
default to "replaceAt == false" and pass "replaceAt == true" explicitly
in the call sites for configure_file and string(CONFIGURE).
Testing the configure (no generate) step with ParaView shows ~20%
performance improvement.
In terms of complete configure/generate steps, further testing with
ParaView shows a 20% performance improvement over 2.8.12.2 with Unix
Makefiles and minimal with Ninja. Ninja is less because it generate step
is the expensive part (future work will address this) by a long shot and
these changes help the configure step for the most part.

This reduces ninja file output even more for projects with lots of
libraries with entangled transitive dependencies. ParaView goes from the
previous 58M to about 45M.
If creation of the global generator fails, return early with an error
message instead of trying to use the generator and crashing.
Add a CTestTestBadGenerator test to cover this case.

Just like -I flag has its -isystem counterpart which marks an include
directory as a system directory and prevents unwanted warnings, on Apple
systems there is -iframework -- a system directory replacement for -F.
Use this flag to implement include_directories(SYSTEM) for frameworks.
Use the highest standard compile flags available if requested language
version is too new.
This supports use-cases like
set(CMAKE_CXX_STANDARD 14)
# Compiled with -std=c++11 with GNU 4.7, which has no -std=c++14
# or equivalent flag

This can be used in combination with preprocessor defines which
communicate the availability of certain language features for
optional use.
Commit b8af2011 (cmTarget: Fix listing of source files at
configure-time., 2014-04-13) refactored a GetObjectLibrariesCMP0026
method out of GetLanguages. In flight, a conditional use of a target
if available was changed to an assert-available.
This code is only used to read the LOCATION property at configure
time, when the link information is incomplete, and not all targets
are defined, so the assert is inappropriate, even though it can lead
to incorrect information being generated. CMP0026 warns about the
potentially incorrect information anyway.
Include execinfo.h, cxxabi.h, and dlfcn.h under the same conditions
under which we use the APIs from them. Move their inclusion out of
OS-specific blocks.

ClearMatches was clearing many variables which were never set in the
first place. Instead, store how many matches were made last time and
only clear those. It is moved to the cmMakefile class since it is a
common utility used by multiple commands.
Create a Modules/CMakeSystemSpecificInitialize.cmake module loaded after
CMakeSystem.cmake but before per-language initialization. Use it to
load an optional Platform/<os>-Initialize.cmake module. This will be
useful to do per-platform initialization that does not depend on the
language and use the results when enabling specific languages.
The substr call was causing excess allocations. Swap the cheaper
character check to be before the longer string comparison, now using the
prefix checking function.
This option was removed during conversion to the reStructuredText
documentation. Restore it. Process documentation starting at
Help/index.rst so that all manuals are included in the output.
Fix cmOSXBundleGenerator::CreateCFBundle to place Info.plist under the
same root directory as the rest of the bundle. Without this, Info.plist
was placed into CMAKE_BINARY_DIR, not CMAKE_CURRENT_BINARY_DIR because
the target path was not generated correctly.

When the policy was added by commit 783bce29 (Export: Disallow exported
interface includes in src/build tree, 2014-03-31) it accidentally left a
code path that would warn when the include dir is in the install tree
but *not* in the source or build tree. Fix that.
As explained in cmVisualStudio10TargetGenerator::WriteSource comments,
VS tools append relative paths to the current directory, e.g.
c:\path\to\current\dir\..\..\..\relative\path\to\source.c
and fail if this is over 250 charaters or so. Previously we used a full
path only if no relative path could be constructed with a leading "../"
sequence that does not escape the source or build tree. This means that
long relative paths can be generated when the build tree is inside the
source tree, and can cause build failures due to the above path
concatenation problem.
Teach cmVisualStudio10TargetGenerator::ConvertPath to ask the Convert
method to honor CMAKE_USE_RELATIVE_PATHS. This will cause it to use
full paths by default but still give users the option of getting the
relative paths when possible.

Add an explicit typedef to cast the value to for 32 and 64 bit. That type is
unsigned and has the proper length for both platforms so no information is
lost. Explicitely cast both arguments before comparing them to avoid the
warning in all situations.
The matches have already been calculated and can simply be taken from
CMAKE_MATCH_n variables. This avoids multiple compilations of the same or very
similar regular expressions.
Since commit e5da9e51 (cmTarget: Allow any generator expression in
SOURCES property., 2014-03-18), source files are computed by
true evaluation of generator expressions, including TARGET_OBJECTS.
This evaluation requires the presence of cmGeneratorTarget objects
since commit bf98cc25 (Genex: Evaluate TARGET_OBJECTS as a normal
expression., 2014-02-26).
Ensure that we don't attempt to evaluate the TARGET_OBJECTS generator
expression at configure-time, as can happen if CMP0024 or CMP0026
are OLD. Use old-style parsing of the source item to extract
object target names in that case.
Avoid calling GetProperty("SOURCES") to bypass warnings from CMP0051.
Refactor existing logic in GetLanguages which is similar in intent to
the new GetSourceFiles code.
Allow directories in the source tree or build tree only if the
install tree is a subdirectory of the source tree or build tree,
as appropriate.
Re-use the test files in the RunCMake.include_directories test
to run in multiple scenarios. Bump the required CMake version
in the test to 3.0 to ensure that the new policy warnings are
emitted correctly.
The AddSource method accepts one file and tries to avoiding adding
it to the sources-list of the target if it already exists. This
involves creating many cmSourceFileLocation objects for matching
on existing files, which is an expensive operation.
Avoid the searching algorithm by appending the new sources as one
group. Generate-time processing of source files will ensure
uniqueness.
Add a new AddTracedSources for this purpose. The existing
AddSources method must process the input for policy CMP0049, but
as these source filenames come from cmSourceFile::GetFullPath(),
we can forego that extra processing.
Computing the language involves computing the source files, which
is an expensive operation. It requires calling
cmMakefile::GetOrCreateSource many times, which involves creating
and matching on many cmSourceFileLocation objects.
Source files of a target may depend on the head-target and the
config as of commit e6971df6 (cmTarget: Make the source files depend
on the config., 2014-02-13). The results are cached for each context
as of commit c5b26f3b (cmTarget: Cache the cmSourceFiles in
GetSourceFiles., 2014-04-05).
Each target in the build graph causes language computation of all
of its dependents with itself as the head-target. This means that
for 'core' libraries on which everything depends, the source files
are computed once for every transitive target-level-dependee and
the result is not cached because the head-target is different. This
was observed in the VTK buildsystem.
Short circuit the computation for targets which have a source-list
that is independent of the head-target. If the source-list has
already been computed and the generator expression evaluation
reports that it was context-independent, return the only source-list
already cached for the target. Reset the short-circuit logic when
sources are added and when the link libraries are re-computed.
Follow up commit 1de08685 (cmSystemTools: Restore unreachable return to
silence warnings, 2014-04-02) by excluding the unreachable return on the
HP compiler as well as Clang. Both recognize that it is unreachable and
warn.
Expect cxx_variadic_templates to implement N2555.
N2555 is essentially a bugfix and predates most compiler releases which
aimed to experimentally support variadic templates.
This can be used to set the compiler features required by particular
targets. An error is issued at CMake time if the compiler does not
support the required feature. If a language dialect flag is required
by the features used, that will be added automatically.
Base the target_compile_features command on cmTargetPropCommandBase. This
gives us 'free' handling of IMPORTED, ALIAS, INTERFACE, non-compilable
and missing targets.
Extend the interface of the target_compile_features command with
PUBLIC and INTERFACE keywords. Populate the INTERFACE_COMPILER_FEATURES
target property if they are set. Consume the INTERFACE_COMPILER_FEATURES
target property from linked dependent targets to determine the final
required compiler features and the compile flag, if needed.
Use the same pattern of origin-debugging which is used for other
build properties.
Record the availability of this feature for GNU 4.8 on (UNIX AND
NOT APPLE) only. In the future, availability can be recorded for
earlier GNU, for other platforms and for other compilers. Initially
the affected configurations are as restricted as possible to allow
for easy testing while extending the features vector in only one
dimension.
The error message when using the set_property API directly is not
very good, but follow up commits will provide origin debugging of
the property and a target_compile_features command which will
provide a configure-time backtrace when possible.
Use the contents of it to upgrade the CXX_STANDARD target property,
if appropriate. This will have the effect of adding the -std=c++11
compile flag or other language specification on GNU when that is
needed for the feature.

This reverses the decision in commit d38423ec (cmTarget: Add a
method to obtain list of filenames for sources., 2014-03-17). The
cmSourceFile based API is preferred because that avoids creation of
many cmSourceFileLocation objects for matching strings, and the
result is cached by cmTarget.
Avoid calling GetSourceFiles with the same result container multiple
times when tracing target dependencies. The result from the previous
configuration is cached and used later otherwise.
Avoid calling AddSource for each src filename. That involves
checking each entry for uniqueness and creating a separate
generator expression for each one.
Instead, add a single entry for the list of sources. The source
files are passed through a uniqueness filter at generate-time, so
duplicates don't matter so much.
The compilation failed with this error message:

Extend the cmGeneratorExpressionDAGChecker with an interface
returning the name of the top target. Use that to determine
when there is a DAG violation, as required by the RunCMake.Languages
tests.
Disallow the use of config-specific source files with
the Visual Studio and Xcode generators. They don't have
any way to represent the condition currently.
Use the same common-config API in cmQtAutoGenerators. While
it accepts config-specific files, it doesn't have to support
multiple configurations yet.
Loop over the configs in cmTargetTraceDependencies
and cmGlobalGenerator::WriteSummary and consume all source
files.
Loop over the configs in cmComputeTargetDepends and compute the
object library dependencies for each config.
When config-specifig generator expressions are supported, a target
may have SOURCES:
src1.cpp $<$<CONFIG:Debug>:src2.cpp> $<$<CONFIG:Release>:src3.cpp>
and computation in cmTargetTraceDependencies would add each of the
src2.cpp and src3.cpp sources back to the target without a
config-guard. That would make the sources be used later when
generating the buildsystem, regardless of the configuration.
Avoid calling AddSource on the target with the result of the
GetSourceFiles call.
If CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE is set, and user code contains:
target_link_libraries(myexe prefix_$<$<CONFIG:Debug>:debug>)
then the computation with an empty config was computing a target-level
dependency on a target or library called prefix_, and a dependency
on a target or library called prefix_debug (as expected).
The existing logic skips 'prefix_' because it is not a known target,
and defers to the link-dependencies logic to find the library. The
link-dependencies logic does not incorrectly handle the config as
cmComputeTargetDepends did, and so did not encounter 'prefix_'
during its computation. This likely had no effect on the generated
buildsystem.
The output of this expression may contain macros for IDEs to replace
such as $(Configuration), $(CURRENT_ARCH) etc. To avoid generating
content which is not usable in other contexts, report an error if
there is an attempt to use it in other contexts.
This commit may be reverted in the future if a solution to the
above difference is implemented.
Add a ComputeObjectMapping method to compute the object
names. It takes mapping to populate as an out-parameter so
that it can be extended in the future with parameters
relevant to generator expression evaluation.
Remove the supporting cmGeneratorTarget::AddObject method. It is
no longer needed as the container member is populated directly.
The ComputeObjectMapping method is called whenever objects are
requested from the cmGeneratorTarget. Because the Xcode generator
makes no such request, explicitly invoke the method from that
generator so that the logic of checking for bad sources in object
libraries is executed.
In a follow-up, the UseObjectLibraries usage may be replaced by a
true generator expression evaluator for TARGET_OBJECTS. That
will require generators to use cmGeneratorTarget::GetExternalObjects
which is not currently the case for Xcode and VS generators.
Remove use of UseObjectLibraries from Makefile and Ninja generators. It
is not needed now because those generators use GetExternalObjects
which already contains the objects from object libraries.
The VS10 generator calls both the UseObjectLibraries and the GetExternalObjects
methods. Ensure that duplicates are not created by skipping objects
from object libraries in handling of GetExternalObjects.
Similarly, fix VS6, VS7 and Xcode object handling by skipping
external objects from OBJECT_LIBRARY usage as appropriate.
The error message in the BadSourceExpression1 test is now reported
by the generator expression evaluator, so it has different text.
This method was added in a commit based on a release branch that
pre-dated the std::string API changes. Port the implementation to use
the string APIs instead of c_str().
These policies are triggered by the use of a particular compiler rather
than outdated CMake code in a project. Avoid warning in every project
that enables a language by not displaying the policy warning by default.
Add variable CMAKE_POLICY_WARNING_CMP<NNNN> to control the warning
explicitly; otherwise enable the warning with --debug-output or --trace.
This breaks with strict policy convention because it does not provide
developers with any warning about the behavior change by default.
Existing projects will continue to build without a warning or change in
behavior. When a developer changes the minimum required version of
CMake in a project to a sufficiently high value (3.0), the project will
suddenly get the new compiler id and may break, but at least the
breakage comes with a change to the project rather than the version of
CMake used to build it.
Breaking strict policy convention is worthwhile in this case because
very few projects will be affected by the behavior change but every
project would have to see the warning if it were enabled by default.
Some compilers do not recognize that the end of copy_data cannot
be reached and complain that there is no return statement. Clang
warns that there is an unreachable return statement if it appears.
Conditionally add the return statement when not building with Clang.
Fix the VS 11 and VS 12 flag table entries for this flag. It requires
a value in the following argument. Also drop the general "/analyze:"
flag table entry so that such flags will be passed through as plain
additional options. This is necessary because some such options have
following values and some do not but not all have .vcxproj elements
to hold the values.
Add a "UserFollowing" special flag table entry indicator to say that a
flag expects a value in a following argument. Teach cmIDEOptions to
handle such flags.
This will allow the strings to contain generator expressions.
At this point, generator expressions are still not part of the
SOURCES property when it is read.
Drop the CMAKE_NO_QUOTED_OBJECTS internal variable from the Makefile
generators. The underlying problem is with the Watcom linker, not with
WMake. The Watcom linker wants object files to be single-quoted. Add
<LINK-RULE>_USE_WATCOM_QUOTE platform information variables to tell the
generators to use Watcom-style single quotes for object files on link
lines.
On Windows, Watcom uses the GetCommandLine API to get the original
command-line string and do custom parsing that expects single quotes.
On POSIX systems, Watcom approximates the original command line by
joining all argv[] entries separated by a single space. Therefore we
need to double-quote the single-quoted arguments so that the shell does
not consume them and they are available for the parser to see.
Fix cmOSXBundleGenerator::CreateCFBundle to place Info.plist under the
same root directory as the rest of the bundle. Without this, Info.plist
was placed into CMAKE_BINARY_DIR, not CMAKE_CURRENT_BINARY_DIR because
the target path was not generated correctly.
Don't store a mapping of the directory to the ui file. The directory
will be a unique key, allowing only one ui file to be specified.
Use the source file name instead as the mapping key.
The rcc tool generates a cpp file with a symbol called qInitResources
or called qInitResources_${name}, if the name is passed. The
qInitResources symbol clashes if multiple qrc files are used in
one target.
Always pass the name to ensure that the symbol is unique. This is also
the behavior of the qtx_add_resource macros.
Not everything that isn't MSVC is GCC. I have support for LDC's depfile
format on its way upstream[1], but its future is uncertain. CMake should
at least support this for future depfile formats.

Rely on evaluation in cmCustomCommandGenerator for the generators.
When tracing target dependencies, depend on the union of dependencies
for all configurations.
Distinguish "Open Watcom" from old "Watcom" by introducing a new
"OpenWatcom" compiler id. The __WATCOMC__ format is "VVRP" for Watcom
and "VVRP + 1100" for Open Watcom.
Curl makes progress callbacks frequently but we round to the nearest
percent and report only when that changes so that we make at most 101
progress reports. However, when unexpected data beyond the total are
transferred the progress can get beyond 100% and lead to unlimited
reports. Avoid this case by capping the reported progress to 100%.

Override the QT_QTMAIN_LIBRARY cache variable with a regular
variable in the Qt 5 configuration. This avoids linking with the
Qt 4 version of the WinMain library.
Implement it in terms of the ComputeObjectFilenames virtual method
on the local generators.
Remove the reimplementation from the global generators which are
now all functionally identical.
Add a CPACK_DEBIAN_COMPRESSION_TYPE option to set the compression type.
Default to 'gzip' to preserve existing behavior. Use "cmake -E tar"
for 'gzip', 'bzip2', and 'none'. Use system "tar" for 'lzma' and 'xz'.
By default, Intel compiler coverage tools generate HTML files as
reports, but the option -txtlcov can be given to codecov to output a
coverage file with LCov format.
To use Intel coverage:
* build the project with coverage flags
* run the application
* run profmerge
* run codecov
The output file will be "build_dir/CodeCoverage/SRCFILEDIR.LCOV".
Ask users to compile with -prof-dir${BUILD_DIR} instead of searching
the entire build tree recursively to find coverage files.

Because we already call [to|from]Local8Bit() with C strings where we are supposed to,
we do not need to specify UTF-8 encoding when converting C strings to QString.
Until now the cmCustomCommandGenerator was used only to compute the
command lines of a custom command. Generalize it to get the comment,
working directory, dependencies, and outputs of custom commands. Update
use in all generators to support this.
Since commit 1a1b737c (stringapi: Use strings for generator names,
2014-02-24) cmExternalMakefileProjectGenerator::CreateFullGeneratorName
expects a std::string instead of const char*. When no extra generator
name is available, pass an empty string to avoid NULL dereference.
Use the clang RemoveCStrCalls tool to automatically migrate the
code. This was only run on linux, so does not have any positive or
negative effect on other platforms.
* The '-e' option has nothing to do with verbose output.
It is now properly handled by .ERASE directive in make file

When given a non-NULL configuration the GetLocation returned the
location for the given configuration. When given a NULL configuration
the GetLocation method returned a location with the build-system
placeholder for the configuration name. Split the latter use case out
into a separate GetLocationForBuild method and update call sites
accordingly.
Casts from std::string -> cmStdString were high on the list of things
taking up time. Avoid such implicit casts across function calls by just
using std::string everywhere.
The comment that the symbol name is too long is no longer relevant since
modern debuggers alias the templates anyways and the size is a
non-issue since the underlying methods are generated since it's
inherited.
Most of these are turned into strings in the body of the method
(multiple times in some cases). Accept strings to simplify the API and
keep string construction down.

Work around the command-line-length limit by using an @linklibs.rsp
response file to pass the flags for link libraries. This allows

The generators for executable and library targets duplicate the logic to
call the OutputLinkLibraries helper on the local generator. Factor it
out into a cmMakefileTargetGenerator::CreateLinkLibs method to avoid
dpulication.
When running CMake from the build tree the CMAKE_ROOT is the
entire source tree. Fix the CMP0017 check to be specific to
the Modules/ directory under CMAKE_ROOT so that Tests/ does
not count. Fix the FindPackageTest modules to include FPHSA
by full path from CMAKE_ROOT so that they do not include the
local FPHSA which reports an error meant to test that CMP0017
works.
The Intel Fortran .vfproj format accepts the $(Configuration) placeholder
in the path to an input file but appears to consider it always out of
date. Therefore adding OBJECT library objects as external object source
files causes the referencing binary to re-link on every build. Work
around this problem by putting OBJECT library objects on the link line
as is done for VS < 8 already.
Since commit v2.8.12~437^2~2 (VS: Separate compiler and linker PDB files
2013-04-05) we no longer set /Fd with the PDB_NAME or PDB_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY
properties. Those properties now exclusively handle linker PDB files.
Since STATIC libraries do not link their compiler PDB file becomes more
important. Add new target properties "COMPILE_PDB_NAME[_<CONFIG>]" and
"COMPILE_PDB_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY[_<CONFIG>]" to specify the compiler PDB
file location and pass the value to the MSVC /Fd option.
My last related commit e5e3f3d4 (CTest: filter /showIncludes output from
ninja compile launcher, 2013-12-01) filtered /showIncludes messages from
the generated xml output but they also need to be filtered in
ScrapeLog(). Otherwise they are being detected as warnings when using
compilers withs english diagnostics.

Add a cmTarget::CompileInfo struct to hold per-configuration information
about the compilation settings in a target. This is different than
cmTarget::OutputInfo because it applies to any targets that can compile
sources even if they do not link or archive.
Implement a Visitor to hold the sequence of source file tests
for populating outputs. Use VS 6 and 7 workaround from Brad
King for lack of partial template specialization and function
template specialization capabilities.
This will make it possible to use context dependent generator
expressions to determine the sources of a target.
Replace calls to GetLinkInformation with calls to a method to get only
the target closure, not the link languages etc. The replaced calls
are used while evaluating generator expressions only. This makes
transitive generator expression evaluation independent from
the languages of a target. In a follow-up topic, it will be possible
to make the languages depend on generator expression evaluation, via
evaluation of the SOURCES and INTERFACE_SOURCES target properties.
Because the order of entries is not the same as the final link line,
the order of debug output is different in the RunCMake.CompatibleInterface
test, because the BOOL_PROP7 target property is evaluated first. Adjust
the test to account for that new order.
For the OLD CMP0022 behavior, we need to treat the implementation
as the interface when computing the interface libraries. Make it
possible to do that without computing the link languages by adding
a new GetLinkImplementationLibraries method. Extend the existing
GetLinkImplementation method to populate the languages if the
libraries have already been computed and cached.
Change GetTransitivePropertyTargets to invoke GetLinkInterfaceLibraries
instead of GetLinkInterface. This is key, as it is a method called
by cmGeneratorExpressionEvaluator.
Change the cmGeneratorExpressionEvaluator to invoke
GetLinkImplementationLibraries instead of GetLinkImplementation.
When evaluating the SOURCES property, we will need to be able to access
the link libraries without accessing the link languages, as the languages
depend on the SOURCES.
Arrange the logic so that the part which deals with libraries only is
at the top. In a follow-up commit, this will be split into two methods.
Ensure that the explanatory CMP0022 comment is only present in one
location.
The callers already skip non-targets, so unify the target search.
Change supporting functions to accept a container of targets instead
of strings where possible.
In a follow-up, the list of sources will become dependent on
the config, so check for existence in cmTarget::GetSourceFiles
instead of up-front with cmGlobalGenerator::CheckTargets().

Teach the install(FILES) and install(PROGRAMS) commands to evaluate
generator expressions in the list of files.
Extend the ExportImport test to cover installation cases involving
generator expressions.
Add a Makefile member to the cmInstallFilesGenerator class and
populate it on construction. This will be useful in a following
change to evaluate generator expressions with proper context.
The char-by-char parsing causes lots of reallocations which shouldn't be
necessary. To improve this, fast-path strings without a semicolon,
reserve space in the result, and insert into the result in chunks.
Optimize cmGeneratorExpressionLexer::Tokenize to use a switch statement.
The many dereferences of the input pointer were expensive. Also remove
excess pointer arithmetic.
Historically CMake used three version components for the feature level.
We released new features while incrementing only the third version
component. Since commit v2.8.2~105^2~4 (New version scheme to support
branchy workflow, 2010-04-23) we used the fourth version component for
bug-fix releases and the development date:
<major>.<minor>.<patch>[.<tweak>][-rc<n>] = Release
<major>.<minor>.<patch>.<date>[-<id>] = Development
This solidified use of three components for the feature level, and was
necessary to continue releasing 2.x versions because:
* Some existing projects performed floating-point comparisons of
${CMAKE_MAJOR_VERSION}.${CMAKE_MINOR_VERSION} to 2.x numbers
so ``x`` could never be higher than 9.
* Version 2.9.<date> was used briefly in post-2.8.0 development in
CVS prior to the transition to Git, so using it in releases may
have caused confusion.
Now that we are moving to 3.x versions, these two restrictions go away.
Therefore we now change to use only two components for the feature
level and use the scheme:
<major>.<minor>.<patch>[-rc<n>] = Release
<major>.<minor>.<date>[-<id>] = Development
The cmGeneratorExpression is used here, but the header for it is not
in the include heirarchy. This would be a compile error if the file
were compiled as a standalone translation unit, but it is instead
used in a mini-unity-build by inclusion in cmCommands.cxx. The header
for cmGeneratorExpression happens to be included first, so the
compilation works fine.
IDEs do not know this however, and flag the use as an error.
Several CMake operations need to replace files in rapid succession.
This commonly fails on Windows due to filesystem lock behavior so
we have retry loops. No matter how many times we retry or how long
we delay there will inevitably be someone with an environment that
needs more. Make the retry count and delay configurable in the
Windows Registry keys:
{HKCU,HKLM}/Software/Kitware/CMake/Config
in DWORD values
FilesystemRetryCount = Number of tries
FilesystemRetryDelay = Delay in milliseconds between tries
Leave the feature undocumented for now to see how it goes.

Fix the internal DEVEL_CMAKE_VERSION macro to use CMake_VERSION_ENCODE
to compare version component-wise. Otherwise an old invocation of the
macro may be tricked into using the current version when the requested
major version is smaller than the current version but the requested
minor version is larger. It should use the requested (old) version in
that case.
Use a uint64_t to store encoded version numbers so we have plenty of
bits available. Encode with room for up to 1000 minor releases between
major releases and to encode dates until the year 10000 in the patch
level. This is necessary because CMake development versions prior to
release 2.8.0 used the date in the patch level, and this practice may be
restored after the 3.0 release.
In CMakeGraphVizOptions.cmake, allow the options GRAPHVIZ_GENERATE_PER_TARGET
and GRAPHVIZ_GENERATE_DEPENDERS to enable the generation of per target graphs
and subgraphs respectively. Both options are TRUE per default to maintain
current behavior.
This is a hot-fix for the bug. It seems like a good idea to generally
reform the generator to care about targets instead of directories,
but this patch at least makes the reported error go away.
Define the list of commands in the CMakeLists.txt file. List the
sources in the CMakeLib target, but mark them as HEADER_FILE_ONLY.
This has the effect that IDEs will show the files, though they
will not be built again.
Add a cmCommandsForBootstrap.cxx file for bootstrapping purposes.
Rename the cmExportLibraryDependencies file to match the common
pattern.
The qtx_add_resources() macro adds the resource file to the output list
to maintain file-level dependencies. Having the qrc file in a target
sources is a precondition for AUTORCC to function.
When processing the source files of a target, only add the generated
qrc_<file>.cpp to the target sources if AUTORCC is ON. This avoids
pre-porting conflict with the macro.

Since commit v2.8.2~105^2~2 (Teach CMake Policies about tweak version
component, 2010-04-23), cmPolicies has known how to handle a policy
introduced in a tweak version. This was done back when we introduced
policies with the current development date version and later updated it
to the release version. Now we always introduce policies using the next
expected release version and explicitly set the policy to test the NEW
behavior.
CMake Policies (or any other features) should never be introduced in a
tweak (bugfix) release, so drop the infrastructure that allows this.
Set a global property in the find_package implementation. Track and
reset that property in the find_dependency macro. Read the property
in FeatureSummary when determining whether to print output.
This means that packages which are found only as dependencies are not
listed by FeatureSummary, but if a project uses find_package elsewhere
directly, then it will be listed by FeatureSummary.

When using link_directories() and including CMAKE_CFG_INTDIR,
one can end up with duplicate RPATHs in the binary which
install_name_tool cannot fix without corrupting the binary.
Also, the cmake_install.cmake file has been fixed to correctly
handle these generator specific variables.
It accepts a before parameter but is never called with before=true.
compile definitions are sorted by std::set, so it wouldn't make sense
to allow user sorting.

Teach the project() command to set variables
{PROJECT,<PROJECT-NAME>}_VERSION{,_MAJOR,_MINOR,_PATCH,_TWEAK}
holding the project version number and its components. Add project()
command option "VERSION" to specify the version explicitly, and default
to the empty string when it is not given.
Since this clears variables when no VERSION is given, this may change
behavior for existing projects that set the version variables themselves
prior to calling project(). Add policy CMP0048 for compatibility.

Teach the project() command to recognize an optional "LANGUAGES"
keyword after the project name and prior to the list of languages.
Do not allow multiple copies of the keyword. If the keyword is
specified and no languages are listed, imply NONE.
Avoid using the moc from Qt 5 with Qt 4 based targets. Moc generates
a version check to ensure that such generated code does not compile.
The Qt4And5Automoc unit test should have been testing this, but it
was not because the test was broken. In that unit test, moc was run
on trivial files which have no significant content, and in particular
no Q_OBJECT macro. Therefore moc was generating empty files which
do not even contain the version check. Fix this by generating files
for input to moc at cmake time.

Introduce policy CMP0047 to control resetting the id for

De-duplicate content in the QNX platform file by including the GNU
one. QNX is a form of GNU platform.
Do not clear CMAKE_SHARED_LIBRARY_${lang}_FLAGS variables. They
are populated again later by the Compiler/GNU.cmake file anyway.
Modify the CMAKE_CXX_COMPILE_OBJECT variable only when the QCC
compiler id is in use, and the language is CXX. Use the QNX
recommended flag for QCC instead of the gcc compatible -x flag.
Populate new module files to handle system includes and depfiles
when using the QCC compiler.
Remove code which unsets the system include and depfiles related
variables. When a GNU driver is used instead of the QCC one, the
appropriate flags will be used. These variables were previously
cleared for lowest-common-denominator compatibility with both
drivers.
Mark unknown revisions as such and fail instead of reporting revision 0.
Otherwise CTest reports massive file updates between revisions when the
server timeouts while trying to fetch the current revision number.
Define a new 'CMAKE_CONFIGURE_DEPENDS' directory property that projects
can use to specify input files to the CMake configuration process.
Extend the RunCMake.Configure test to verify that the build system
re-runs CMake when this input changes.
The logic added by commit ffc0b5e4 (Overwrite the symlink if it already
exists, 2007-02-15) does not recognize and remove existing broken links
before replacing them. Improve the logic to remove any existing
destination file or link (but not directory). On failure, report an
error message explaining why the existing path could not be removed or
the new one could not be created.
Add a RunCMake.CommandLine test to cover 'cmake -E' cases. Start with
test cases covering 'cmake -E create_symlink' behavior on UNIX platforms.
...otherwise the generator failed in embedded projects via
externalproject(), since there CMAKE_KATE_MAKE_ARGUMENT is not set.
Using GetSafeDefinition() is good enough to protect against
NULL-pointers.

Images and xib files must have 'lastKnownFileType' attribute to be
displayed correctly. If xib file has attribute 'explicitFileType' it is
displayed as raw xml. If static image has attribute 'explicitFileType'
it is displayed as question mark on storyboard.
Most callers already have a std::string, on which they called c_str() to pass it
into these methods, which internally converted it back to std::string. Pass a
std::string directly to these methods now, avoiding all these conversions.
Those methods that only pass in a const char* will get the conversion to
std::string now only once.
Store variable types together with their names in the variable completion
list so that the type is automatically recovered when you select a variable.
Keep variable names and types in separate lists. This removes the :TYPE
string from completion list and the Name field and makes variable search
easier. The variable names and types are now kept in two different
settings - AddVariableNames and AddVariableTypes. Drop the old
AddVariableCompletionEntries setting.
Revert commit 4a6397a7 (Ninja: Track configured files so we can
regenerate them, 2013-06-17). The files reported by the method
cmMakefile::GetOutputFiles() must cause CMake to re-run only if they are
missing and without considering a timestamp. This is not the meaning of
the implicit dependencies field so Ninja re-runs CMake too often.
Another solution will have to be found to the original problem.
Revert commit 6fac24d7 (Ninja: Avoid re-running CMake on next build
after regeneration, 2014-01-09). The files reported by the method
cmMakefile::GetOutputFiles() must cause CMake to re-run only if they are
missing and without considering a timestamp. Therefore they cannot be
listed as outputs of the re-run rule or Ninja will re-run CMake every
time because the timestamp of configure_file outputs does not change.
Another solution will have to be found to the original problem.

In commit 4a6397a7 (Ninja: Track configured files so we can regenerate
them, 2013-06-17) we accidentally started listing files generated by
CMake as inputs to the configuration process instead of outputs from it.
Move the list of files generated by CMake to the regeneration rule
outputs section and tell Ninja to restat after running it.
Create cmGeneratorTargets before generating generate-time information.
C++ interfaces for querying build information is increasingly only
available at generate time through the cmGeneratorTarget class. Ensure
that the required cmGeneratorTarget instances are created. Use the
cmGlobalGenerator access API to access the relevant cmGeneratorTarget
instead of creating a temporary one on the stack.

The implementation of the "cmake --help-custom-modules" was removed
along with the rest of the old help generation infrastructure when
documentation was converted to reStructuredText. In order to avoid
breaking existing project builds outright when they use a custom command
that runs a command like "cmake --help-custom-modules foo.1", generate
the requested file with placeholder content explaining that the option
is not supported anymore.
In VS <= 9 we already convert include paths to use backslashes
but the conversion was left out of the VS >= 10 generator.
Add the conversion now for consistency. VS 11 and 12 now require
it because they mistakenly interpret forward-slash options that
happen to occur in paths:

Fix an off-by-one error in
GeneratorExpressionContent::EvaluateParameters exposed by a unit test.

Add a unit test to verify that $<CONFIG> and $<CONFIGURATION> have
the same value.
The other infrastructure for transitive property handling is
already using a preprocessor loop.
Implement special backward-compatibility handling of
COMPILE_DEFINITIONS_<CONFIG> using a template switch for the
extra check.
As a new feature it does not need to participate in CMP0024.
Store cmExportBuildFileGenerator instances which correspond to the
export(EXPORT) signature in a second map which does not own the
pointers. This avoids the need to add cmExportBuildFileGenerator
and dependencies to the bootstrap system.
Direct users of IMPORTED targets treat INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES
as SYSTEM, after commit a63fcbcb (Always consider includes from IMPORTED
targets to be SYSTEM., 2013-08-29). It was intended that transitive
use of an IMPORTED target would have the same behavior, but that
did not work. The implementation processed only direct dependencies
in cmTarget::FinalizeSystemIncludeDirectories.
Implement transitive evaluation of dependencies by traversing the
link interface of each target in the link implementation.
The error messages were incorrect (reporting that the expression
requires one or two parameters), and repeated. Remove the now-unused
ZeroOrMoreParameters enum value.
There is no need to allow EXCLUDE_* properties, because an
INTERFACE_LIBRARY has no direct build output.
IMPORTED_LINK_INTERFACE_LANGUAGES are relevant only to static
libraries.
VERSION is relevant only to the filename of direct build outputs,
which INTERFACE_LIBRARY does not have.
If the dependent target sets the property to boolean false, ensure
that that appears in the debug report. Previously, the report
output contained whether the property was consistent among dependencies,
displaying 'TRUE', instead of the content of the property, which may
be 'FALSE'.
Return a std::pair from the consistentProperty method. This makes
it possible to make the return value for string types easier to
reason about. The return value of consistentProperty was previously
set to an empty static string to emulate a 'true' value for the caller
in commit 816b4a8a (cmTarget: Make consistentProperty
return consistent content., 2013-10-22). The pair makes the
consistency result properly typed.
Don't refer to 'both', but a 'mixture'. List all compatible interface
property types possible.
Add another test for a mixture of three compatibilities.
The include_directories() and add_compile_options() commands
should not append to the corresponding target property for IMPORTED
targets. This is already the case for add_definitions().
The modern way to create configuration dependent content is using
generator expressions in the main export file. The only non-deprecated
property still generated in the configuration-specific files are
IMPORTED_LOCATION_<CONFIG>
INTERFACE_LIBRARY targets have no location, and no need for those
files.
The next version is 3.0.0, not 2.8.13.
The version generated in the export file should be updated in
the release branch in both cmExportInstallFileGenerator and
cmExportBuildFileGenerator.
