Brad King a943b5c4f3 Fail early if no current working directory exists 
Remove the old "nocwd" behavior that attempts to provide the "--help"
output when no working directory is available.  The long help output
scrolls the real error message out of typical terminal sizes.  Also
execute as little code as possible when no working directory exists.

Alex Neundorf 38df155dd3 documentation: preparation for making the man section configurable 
This patch adds a man section number, which is then used by the
DocumentationFormatterMan. The section number is right now always 1,
detecting this from the file name will be the next step.

Eric NOULARD c6a0169442 CPack begin the implementation of --help-command* and --help-variables* 
This modifications set tries to keep the unified doc for cmake/ctest/cpack
while introducing tool specific documentation separated.
Some documentation sections for CMake do not fit well to CPack.

Matt McCormick 96d106a78d CMake: Remove documentation for -E build (#12446) 
The '-E build build_dir' command was created and documented, but then
morphed into '--build build_dir' instead, ... and then the -E documentation
was never removed. This commit fixes that oversight.

Alex Neundorf 7690edffd9 Replace cmake::GetScriptMode() with GetWorkingMode() 
GetWorkingMode() returns a new enum WorkingMode, which is one of
NORMAL_MODE, SCRIPT_MODE and FIND_PACKAGE_MODE.

OUTPUT_NORMAL does no processing of the output streams, it just passes
them through the same streams as they were received on.

Brad King 96afb12087 Convert CMake to OSI-approved BSD License 
This converts the CMake license to a pure 3-clause OSI-approved BSD
License.  We drop the previous license clause requiring modified
versions to be plainly marked.  We also update the CMake copyright to
cover the full development time range.

Brad King 170febac52 ENH: Cleanup cmake --build interface. 
This cleans up the 'cmake --build' command-line interface:
  - Rename --clean to --clean-first to better describe it.
  - Replace --extra-options with a -- separator to simplify passing of
    multiple native build tool options.
  - Document the options in the main CMake man page description of the
    --build option, and shares this with the usage message.
  - Require --build to be the first argument when present.
  - Move implementation into cmakemain where it belongs.

(http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.2/), which users can then convert
to other formats.
Tested with meinproc from KDE, which generates HTML pages which look good.

Alexander Neundorf 31881265c7 ENH: add new help option --help-custom-modules, which generates 
documentation for all modules found in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH, which currently
has to be specified via -D, this can later on be improved e.g. by reading a
special (to-be-created) file like CMakeFiles/ModulePath.cmake in the build
tree so that running cmake help in the build tree of a project will always
give you the current module path. (This could actually also help IDEs which
would like to support cmake for projects...)

Alexander Neundorf 151d55557e ENH: generate separate documentation for the commands, compatiblity 
commands, modules and properties as html, text and man pages.
The names of the man pages are cmcommands, cmcompat, cmprops and cmmodules,
so they are easy to type.

Alexander Neundorf c95dc91237 ENH: 
-in the full documentation there is now an extra section for
compatibility commands, so users see which commands they shouldn't use
-cmake -h <command> now also works with lower case commands
--help-fullm --help-command, --help-module and --help-property now determine
the output format from the extension of the given filename

Let me know if there are some things I overlooked.

Andy Cedilnik 565200b893 ENH: Add argument -N which prevents CMake from doing configure and generate. This should be improved at some point that it will do all the error checking such as whether the CMakeLists.txt exists etc. It should essentially load cache, go through cmake lists, but not modify cache and other files in the build directory. The second feature is ability to display cache values. You run with argument -L (or -LH /-LA / -LAH) and it will display all nonadvanced cached variables (-L) / all cached variable (-LA) / and cached variables with corresponding help string (-LH -LAH). 2003-04-29 10:07:30 -04:00
