* New :variable:`CMAKE_LINK_SEARCH_START_STATIC` and
  :variable:`CMAKE_LINK_SEARCH_END_STATIC` variables were
  introduced to initialize the
  :prop_tgt:`LINK_SEARCH_START_STATIC` and
  :prop_tgt:`LINK_SEARCH_END_STATIC` target properties,
  respectively.
