Ensure that all targets have their _automoc.cpp before attempting
to initialize the autogen target. The initialization evaluates
generator expressions for target sources, and must include the
_automoc.cpp of object library dependents in order for TARGET_OBJECTS
to include the object file for the corresponding _automoc.cpp file.
The latter is now the preferred URL for visiting cmake.org with a
browser. Convert using the shell code:

In the Ninja generator we run all build rules from the top of the build
tree rather than changing into each subdirectory. Therefore we convert
all paths relative to the HOME_OUTPUT directory. However, the Convert
method on cmLocalGenerator restricts relative path conversions to avoid
leaving the build tree with a "../" sequence. Therefore conversions
performed for "subdirectories" that are outside the top of the build
tree always use full paths while conversions performed for
subdirectories that are inside the top of the build tree may use
relative paths to refer to the same files.
Since Ninja always runs rules from the top of the build tree we should
convert them using only the top-level cmLocalGenerator in order to
remain consistent. Also extend the test suite with a case that fails
without this fix.
The changes in commit 47b060ae (CPackDeb: allow empty directories in
component packages, 2015-09-21), commit b58de9fe (CPack: allow packaging
of empty directories, 2015-09-21), and commit b761e90d (CPack: remove
accidental changes, 2015-09-22) regressed packaging of CMake itself.
Revert the changes until they can be revised and rebased on other
changes that make additional fixes.

In TryCompileCode we construct an internal argv[] vector that needs to
have a fake argv[0] so our internal cmake command line looks like a real
command line. Fix construction of the fake argv[0] when try_compile is
called without the CMAKE_FLAGS argument. Otherwise the first internal
-DVAR=val argument that we use to pass information like
CMAKE_OSX_SYSROOT is ignored.
The changes in commit c96fe0b4 (cmake: Add -W options to control
deprecation warnings and errors, 2015-07-28) fail to account for
-Wdev warnings produced by places in CMake other than message().
This causes a regression in which -Wno-dev fails to suppress such
warnings. Revert the feature until it can be revised accordingly.
When using "cmake --build ." or "MSBuild ALL_BUILD.vcxproj" to drive the
build the dependencies in the .sln file are not considered. This means
that ProjectReference elements in .vcxproj files are used to order
targets. We must ensure that the ZERO_CHECK target is listed as the
first dependency of every target so that when it causes regeneration of
the build files then MSBuild has not yet loaded the updated files.
Refactor cmGlobalVisualStudioGenerator::TargetCompare to store the name of
the target that should come first instead of hard-coding "ALL_BUILD".
Update client sites to specify "ALL_BUILD" when ordering for .sln files
and an empty string otherwise (in cases when "ALL_BUILD" should not be
encountered anyway).
Set policy CMP0065 to the value used in the calling project.
Set the the value of CMAKE_ENABLE_EXPORTS if set in the calling
project to initialize the target property appropriately.

'curcol' is an implementation detail of ncurses so other implementations
of 'form' may not have it. The switch-to-previous-field logic only
exists for overloaded requests of REQ_DEL_PREV, so no need to check for

did, change it back.
Support for C11's _Thread_local was introduced in GCC in the 4.9 series,
even though we make the C11 compiler flags available in CMake with GCC
>= 4.6.
FreeBSD's runetype.h uses _Thread_local, which causes CMake's own build
to fail when using GCC < 4.9 and -std=gnu11:

With 64-bit Windows builds, there is no need to remove the leading
underscore from all the symbols. This is because it does not have one
in the .obj file unless it is really in the name. This did not cause
any trouble until VS 2015 which has some system functions that have a
leading underscore that end up in the .def file.
This is needed for proper makefile progress tracking.
The cmLocalGenerator is constructed at configure-time, but only used
at generate time. The StateSnapshot member is currently populated
before configuring, so use the Makefile to get the end snapshot.
This is the appropriate snapshot for future use. Existing users
of this method are mostly just calling GetDirectory on the result,
but the progress tracking of the Makefile generator needs a consistent
snapshot to be used, so the end snapshot should be consistently used.
This is a change in behavior from CMake 3.3, but there is no semantic meaning
to empty entries in buildsystem properties. This also restores behavior to
that of CMake 2.8.10.

and AppendProperty methods.
When more than one value is given to the NAMES option this command by
default will consider one name at a time and search every directory for
it. Add a NAMES_PER_DIR option to tell this command to consider one
directory at a time and search for all names in it.
Avoid using KWSys SystemTools::FindProgram because it does much more
than we actually need for find_program and does not allow us to control
the order of preference between directories and names. Create our own
cmFindProgramHelper much like cmFindLibraryHelper but without all the
find_library-specific parts.
In FindNormalLibraryDirsPerName we consider one name at a time and
search the entire path. Avoid repeated consideration of names by
removing each one from the list of candidates before considering the
next one. This will not change behavior because we already know the
earlier candidates were not found on repeated considering anyway.
Determine the Desktop SDK for Windows Phone and Windows Store from the
generator instead of the version of the targeted app. This allows to
build a Windows Phone 8.1 app on VS 2015 for example.

Teach cmSystemTools::MakefileColorEcho to use the color printing API
only when we actually have a color to print. This avoids printing
escape sequences that do not change the text attributes.
Since commit v3.3.0-rc1~480^2~4 (Makefile: Fix output during parallel
builds, 2015-02-05) we always use this code path to print progress and
rule messages even when color is disabled (e.g. in a try_compile). It
is important to avoid printing escapes when there is no color because on
MSYS we have no isatty and so assume that vt100 escapes are supported,
but we do not want to print them when capturing try_compile output.
If we capture the vt100 escapes in try_compile output, they contain
unbalanced square brackets. This causes CMakeParseImplicitLinkInfo
to fail to separate lines in a ;-list and therefore fail to extract
information from the link line. Then mixed-language linking breaks.
Remove use of cmXMLSafe from CTest when generating content that is later
handled by cmXMLWriter. This was broken by refactoring in the topic
merged by commit v3.3.0-rc1~22 (Merge topic 'ctest-xml-refactor',
2015-05-28).

Since cmTarget::ComputeOutputDir results can be used in CMake code of script
cmake_install.cmake and in Xcode internals, string ${EFFECTIVE_PLATFORM_NAME}
should be used instead of $(EFFECTIVE_PLATFORM_NAME) because it works for both.
Value of CMAKE_CFG_INTDIR can't be used in BUILD_TYPE argument of install
command since it contains $(EFFECTIVE_PLATFORM_NAME) (e.g. equals to
`Release-iphoneos`, `Debug-iphoneos`, etc.).
Currently the CMAKE_XCODE_EFFECTIVE_PLATFORMS property acts only as

Store the definitions in a cmLinkedTree in the cmMakefile. This can
be moved to cmState and then the tree will provide snapshotting
possibilities. It will also make the Closure copy created at
the start of each cmMakefile unnecesarry.
Refactoring in commit 6ed9c7e0 (cmState: Host buildsystem properties for
directories, 2015-07-18) broke include_directories(BEFORE). Fix it and
add a test case.
Since support for generator expressions was added to OUTPUT_NAME it is
possible for project code to cause recursion in this method by using a
$<TARGET_FILE> genex. Detect and reject such cases.
CMAKE_<LANG>_OUTPUT_EXTENSION tells us the proper extension for the
current toolchain. Teach the ComputeObjectFilenames method to use
GetLanguageOutputExtension to look up the extension instead of
hard-coding ".obj". This is already done in the code path for explicit

Since curl 7.39 the CURLOPT_CAPATH setting may be rejected with a
CURLE_NOT_BUILT_IN error. Simply tolerate this with silent failure
since we just will not use the CAPATH setting in this case.
If {ARCHIVE,LIBRARY,RUNTIME}_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY is set with a genex then
do not add the per-config subdirectory on multi-config generators.
This will allow projects to use $<CONFIG> to place the per-config

nmake and jom generators no longer warn about missing INCLUDE/LIB
environment variables unless the C/CXX compiler cannot be found. This
is useful if the user does not want to use these generators with the
Visual C++ compiler, or they do not want to enable any language.

Our explicit list of characters that require quoting does not account
for non-ascii characters (e.g. UTF-8) that also need quoting. Invert
the logic to quote a string unless it contains exclusively a set of
characters we whitelist.
Refactoring in commit v3.3.0-rc1~76^2 (cmMakefile: Handle CMP0014 before
configuring the generator, 2015-05-14) accidentally left the file name
"/CMakeLists.txt" in the error message. Remove it and add a test case.

errors on warnings by default in scripts because there is no

TestNameThatExists has been added with add_test. The syntax is similar
to if(TARGET TargetName). Since use of "TEST" as an argument to if()
could previously be interpreted as a non-keyword argument, add policy

Since commit v3.3.0-rc1~183^2 (Xcode: Refine quoting rules for Strings,
2015-04-09) we no longer quote strings containing a period ('.').
However, file names like "icon29x29~ipad.png" still need quoting because
they contain a tilde ('~'). Add tilde to our explicit list of
characters that need quoting because such file names will no longer
happen to be quoted because they contain a period.

The Makefile generators run tools with the current working directory set
to the subdirectory of the build tree for the each target. The Ninja
generator runs tools with the current working directory set to the top
of the build tree. Tell cmCommonTargetGenerator where the working
directory will be so it can compute proper relative paths.
Refactor the -Wdev and -Wno-dev to use a generic -W parser that follows
the GCC pattern. Include support for setting CMAKE_ERROR_DEPRECATED and
CMAKE_WARN_DEPRECATED via the deprecated warning. Add -Werror=dev and
-Wno-error=dev options so that dev warning options are in line with
deprecated warning options. Use a new CMAKE_SUPPRESS_DEVELOPER_ERRORS
internal cache entry to store the above new dev options persistently.
Add tests for new options and updated cmake documentation and release
notes to list new options.
Factor a GetLinkedTargetDirectories method out of
cmMakefileTargetGenerator::WriteTargetDependRules to compute the list of
directories associated with targets to which the current target links.

The MSVC linker may update a binary without touching the associated
import library.
Making the import library a BYPRODUCT prevents the linker from
unnecessarily rerunning when the import library does not get regenerated
as previously expected.
The intention is to move generation-semantic cmTarget API to cmGeneratorTarget
and then use the latter for generator expressions.
This means that each time we read a deprecated LOCATION property, we have to
clear and re-populate the container. That must be done each time because the
result can change through the configure process, which is why this is
deprecated in the first place.
The directory is at args[0], not args[1]. Introduced in commit
v2.6.0~489 (... 5889 ... tests are not found in some cases when using
add_subdirectory ..., 2008-01-18).
Collect the original preprocessor definitions in a std::set<> so that
it can be copied directly by cmFortranParser's constructor instead of
making a copy on the stack.
The parser can be re-used outside cmDependsFortran or the cmDepends
class hierarchy so drop the "Depends" from its name:

The --trace option is helpful, but sometimes, what you're looking for is
deep under many layers of function calls and figuring out what instance
of the function call you're looking at is tedious to determine (usually
involving patching and message()). Instead, add a --trace-expand option
to trace while expanding commands into what CMake actually sees.
Instead put a sentinal empty entry in the container when a property
is overwritten. Use this sentinal when reading from the containers.
Use iterator::operator+(size_type) directly instead of std::advance,
because this only really makes sense if using RandomAccessIterators.

It costs an extra cmMakefile member and extra code to maintain in
directory property handling. Remove documentation note that it
is read-only and specify high-level command to populate it.
The storage of a pointer means that the ownership and lifetime are
externally determined, which is harder to reason about. It also imposes
API constraints, requiring APIs to return references to backtraces.
This pointer storage was introduced in commit v3.1.0-rc1~425^2~3 (genex:
remove the need for backtraces, 2014-05-23). As backtraces are now cheap
to copy around, just do that instead.
Add variable CTEST_CHANGE_ID to configure the setting. This allows
CTest clients to give CDash information about what change is being
tested so that CDash can take actions to report the results (e.g. to a
pull request page).
Extend the Nsight Tegra project generator to add bunch of properties
with the backing variables to fine-tune the generated projects.

Add a TARGET_MESSAGES property to control whether Makefile targets print
the "Built target " completion messages. Default to ON to preserve
existing behavior.
Do not ignore a coverage request if CTEST_EXTRA_COVERAGE_GLOB was
specified. Prior to this change, if no lines of code were covered by
any tests then CTest would neglect to generate a Coverage.xml file.
This change allows us to report uncovered files for a project with no
tests.
Teach the Makefile and Ninja generators to substitute for an <INCLUDES>
placeholder instead of putting -I in <FLAGS>. Update our values for
CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILE_OBJECT,
CMAKE_<LANG>_CREATE_ASSEMBLY_SOURCE, and
CMAKE_<LANG>_CREATE_PREPROCESSED_SOURCE
to place <INCLUDES> just before <FLAGS>.
Restore call to AppendFortranFormatFlags accidentally dropped by
commit 0837538e (cmCommonTargetGenerator: Adopt GetFlags method,
2015-07-09). It was added originally by commit 6a56740e
(cmNinjaTargetGenerator: Add Fortran flag generation, 2015-07-09).
Commit v3.3.0-rc1~196^2~7 (cmake: Simplify command clean up
loop., 2015-04-12) introduced a bug that built-in commands which
were renamed no longer had their original name restored when
cleanup is performed between configure runs. Check for that
and restore the commands with their original name.
Extend the complex test for this. That test is run by ctest with
the --build-two-config command line option.
In commit v3.2.0-rc1~480^2 (QtAutogen: Regenerate qrc files if their
input changes, 2014-09-17) we added use of the rcc "--list" option.
Prior to Qt 5.2 this option was called just "-list", and the older name
is still supported by the newer tools. Use the older name of the option
for compatibility with Qt 5.0 and 5.1.
Simplify the per-source ComputeDefines implementation by getting
target-wide defines from GetDefines. Technically this changes behavior
by no-longer de-duplicating/sorting defines from both the target and the
source, but this makes it consistent with the Makefile generator. It
may also later help move target-wide defines into per-target compilation
rules.
This setting was added to support QtIFW 2.0 in commit v3.3.0-rc1~70^2~1
(CPackIFW: Add QtIFW 2.0 support, 2015-04-27). We need to load the
CPackIFW module to initialize it if it is not set.
Add a missing GetEclipsePath call to fix generation of incorrect paths
for target links in Eclipse CDT generator which caused Eclipse to be
unable to open files through such links. Without this the generator
would generate invalid links for source files under "[Targets]", making
Eclipse unable to open them. The old links looked like
"C:/cygdrive/c/...", while new links correctly are "C:/...".
We use a special dedicated structure to store the LINK_LIBRARIES target
property. Do not try to construct a string from a NULL value. Instead
leave the property structure empty when no value is given.

Port code from the KWSys System_Shell APIs into cmOutputConverter.
Drop it from our copy of KWSys because upstream will drop it too,
and by doing it in this commit 'git blame' may have an easier time
connecting the history of the content.
Since commit v2.4.0~4158 (When the initially configured generator is
invalid, allow the user to change the generator without deleting the cache
by hand, 2003-05-13) we remove CMAKE_GENERATOR from the cache if an error
occurs and CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM is not cached. This worked at the time
because all generators initialized the CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM cache entry.
Since commit v3.0.0-rc1~260^2~4 (VS: Switch to internal CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM
lookup by generators, 2013-11-15) and commit v3.2.0-rc1~39^2 (Xcode:
Switch to internal CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM lookup by generator, 2015-01-28) the
VS and Xcode generators no longer store CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM in the cache.
Therefore any error during generation would wipe out CMAKE_GENERATOR from
the cache and cause the next configuration to choose a default generator.
Simply drop the behavior introduced by the original commit and always
preserve CMAKE_GENERATOR. Since the time that behavior was introduced a
lot more state is now saved in CMakeCache.txt and CMakeFiles/ during the
initial configuration so it is not safe to change generators without
starting fresh anyway.

Allow the `Swift` language to be enabled with the Xcode generator for
Xcode >= 6.1. Reject it on other generators and with older Xcode
versions. Since Apple is the only vendor implementing the language
right now, the compiler id can be just `Apple`.
Sparse files in tars are a GNU extension that libarchive will use if it
detects holes in the input file, even when using the standard pax/paxr
formats. Not all tar implementations can handle sparse files; in particular,
the internal implementation dpkg uses to extract packages can't. To
maximize archive portability, turn this feature off by clearing the
sparseness information from archive entries.
The progress ticks and information about the length of the output are
useful when the actual output is not visible. When the output is
printed, the progress ticks
* add no useful information,
* do not look pretty, and
* make the output hard to parse for tools.
Create target property WINDOWS_EXPORT_ALL_SYMBOLS to automatically
generate a module definition file from MS-compatible .obj files and give
it to the linker in order to export all symbols from the .dll part of a
SHARED library.
In commit v3.3.0-rc1~352^2~3 (Genex: Allow COMPILE_LANGUAGE when
processing compile definitions, 2015-03-04) the name of the variable
used to pass preprocessor definitions to the Fortran dependency scanner
was changed to be per-language, but the actual dependency scanning code
was not updated accordingly. Update the code and add a test case.

Add a TestLoad setting to CTest that can be set via a new --test-load
command-line option, CTEST_TEST_LOAD variable, or TEST_LOAD option to
the ctest_test command. Teach cmCTestMultiProcessHandler to measure
the CPU load and avoid starting tests that may take more than the
spare load currently available. The expression
<current_load> + <test_processors> <= <max-load>
must be true to start a new test.

The original implementation of the RUN_SERIAL test property worked by
having such a test consume all available processors. Instead use an
explicit flag to indicate that a serial test is running. This avoids
artificially inflating the number of processors a test is expected to
consume.
Since commit v3.3.0-rc1~62^2~5 (cmTarget: Store only cmListFileContext
for CMP0023 handling, 2015-05-18) a call to target_link_libraries on a
target that was defined in another (non-ancestor) directory crashes
because no execution context is left active. Fix this by getting the
execution context from the actual cmMakefile where the current
target_link_libraries call takes place. Test this by verifying that
such calls correctly produce an error diagnostic instead of crashing.
When writing export files, correctly encode property values that contain
characters special to the CMake language parser. We must ensure that
they parse correctly when loaded on the consuming side.

In commit v3.3.0-rc1~49^2~2 (cmake-gui: Add --install option to add
command-line tools on OS X, 2015-05-19) the option default was set to
/usr/bin because that is where the old command line install dialog
placed the symlinks. A better default is /usr/local/bin because it is
meant for locally installed software rather than Apple-installed tools.
Also, as of OS X El Capitan, special privileges are required even for
root to modify /usr/bin but not /usr/local/bin.

The fix in commit v3.2.3~3^2 (Fix assertion failure on unmatched foreach
in function, 2015-05-18) broke handling of unmatched non-loop blocks
because it assumed all function blockers removed during error unwinding
were for loops, essentially switching the set of mishandled cases.
The purpose of the loop block push/pop operations is to define a scope
matching the lifetime of the loop function blockers. Since our function
blockers already have the proper lifetime, simply move the push/pop
operations to their constructor/destructor.
Extend the RunCMake.Syntax test with a case covering this.
The cmListFileArgument currently stores a FilePath for use in this
method. The filename is the same as the CMAKE_CURRENT_LIST_FILE,
except if executing a macro or function defined in another file.
Set the context filename when expanding the arguments of macros and
functions using the filename recorded when defining the prototype.
In commit v3.2.0-rc1~480^2 (QtAutogen: Regenerate qrc files if their input
changes, 2014-09-17) the "cmake -E cmake_autogen" rule was switched from
always running to running as a custom command with dependencies if rcc
is enabled. This is not correct because automoc always needs to re-run.
Switch back to always running the command.
Create a <LANG>_COMPILER_LAUNCHER target property (initialized by a
CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER_LAUNCHER variable) to specify a compiler launcher
tool. This will supersede the CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER_ARG1 approach to
using such tools. The old approach set CMAKE_<LANG>_COMPILER to the
launcher tool while the new approach leaves this variable set to the
actual compiler.
Implement this property for Makefile and Ninja generators. It cannot be
implemented for VS or Xcode generators as the IDE build tools offer no
such hooks.
Fix generation of tgt/fast build targets.
Commit 363caa2f (cmLocalGenerator: De-virtualize Configure().,
2015-05-30) moved the computation of HomeRelativeOutputPath from
Configure-time to Generate-time, because it is only used at
Generate-time. However, that commit caused the member for one
local generator to be computed immediately before generating with
that local generator, whereas previously the members of all local
generators were computed before generating any of them.
The HomeRelativeOutputPath is used by the GetRelativeTargetDirectory
method, which is called by the
cmGlobalUnixMakefileGenerator3::WriteConvenienceRules method. That
method is called by the
cmLocalUnixMakefileGenerator3::WriteLocalMakefile method when generating
for the top-most (ie, the first) local generator. At that point,
the HomeRelativeOutputPath is not yet computed.
Fix that by computing the member just before generating anything.
This will eventually be done in the cmLocalUnixMakefileGenerator3
constructor instead, but further refactoring is needed to make
that possible.
The VS >= 10 generators need to parse the .sln file from the build
directory to locate targets in subdirectories. This occurs after we
change the working directory to the build tree. If a relative directory
other than "." was given then we would change to it and also refer to
the .sln file location with it. Fix this by converting the build tree
to a full path always. This will also give a more informative error
message when the directory does not exist.
Make RETURN_VALUE report -1 if the update command failed as the
documentation claims. Also avoid reporting a ctest script-level failure
if the update command fails because we still correctly administered the
update step.

The chaining logic doesn't belong to the container, and the
CMakeInstance pointer doesn't need to be in cmPropertyMap.
Size goes from 56 to 48 bytes with GNU libstdc++-5.1.
Currently there are an optimal number of policies (64) such that
there are no wasted bits. When another policy is added, the
cmPolicyMap will grow from 40 bytes to 80, and occupy 45. By storing
all in a single bitset, we stay under the cache line size of 64 bytes
until there are 512 policies in a range.
The Convert methods never belonged to the local generator concept, so
split them out now. The cmOutputConverter is cheap to construct and
destroy, so it can be instantiated where needed to perform
conversions. This will allow further decoupling of cmLocalGenerator
from the configure step.
Inherit cmLocalGenerator from cmOutputConverter for the purpose of
source compatibility.
This will be used to contain most of the content of the cmState
in several different trees. Refer to the BuildsystemDirectory
state from the SnapshotData state. Currently these trees have
the same structure, but that will change when we have more snapshot
types.

Compute deterministic GUIDs that are unique to the build tree by
hashing the path to the build tree with the GUID logical name.
Avoid storing them in the cache, but honor any found there.
This will allow project GUIDs to be reproduced in a fresh build
tree so long as its path is the same as the original, which may
be useful for incremental builds.
The test for this variable was removed in commit v2.8.8~330^2~7 (complex:
Remove ancient unused ComplexRelativePaths test, 2011-12-23).
Commit v3.1.0-rc1~425^2~2 (backtrace: Convert to local paths in
IssueMessage, 2014-03-12) appears to have accidentally made some backtraces
print relative paths with the variable because conversions which used to be
done at configure time, before the variable had an effect are now potentially
done at generate time.
The documentation of the variable says not to use it, and the docs are wrong in
that the variable actually applies in per-directory scope.
The read of the variable makes it harder to split conversion methods from
cmLocalGenerator where they don't belong. Remove it now.
Use the KWSys Process "MergeOutput" option to give each test child
process the same pipe for both stdout and stderr. This allows natural
merging of stdout and stderr together instead of merging on arbitrary
buffered read boundaries as before.
Currently cmMakefile calls MakeRelative on a copy of the backtrace,
emits the copy to the stream once, then discards the copy. There
is no need to have API for the path conversion.
Teach cmFileCommandCurlDebugCallback to filter the debug data by type
and show only summary information instead of the raw data. This avoids
allocating memory for all data transferred by UPLOAD or DOWNLOAD.
The chunkDebug buffer we use to accumulate the LOG variable content
is populated if and only if a log variable was requested by the call,
but it is much clearer to check that a log variable was requested
explicitly before populating it.
Remove debugging logic left from commit v2.6.0~305 (add DOWNLOAD option
to FILE command, 2008-02-06). The CURLE_OPERATION_TIMEOUTED code path
does nothing that the code immediately after it does not do.

Refactor the local generator creation API to accept a
cmState::Snapshot. Adjust MakeLocalGenerator to use the 'current'
snapshot in cases where there is no parent. Create the snapshot
for subdirectories in cmMakefile::AddSubdirectory.
This means that snapshots are now created at the point of extending the tree,
as appropriate, and independently of the cmLocalGenerator and cmMakefile they
represent the state for.
The StartXML, EndXML, and AddSiteProperties overloads that take a stream
directly are no longer called anywhere. All clients hvae been ported to
cmXMLWriter. Drop the old overloads.
In commit a390de65 (Ninja: Generate separate compile and link rules for
each target, 2015-05-18) we removed the _RSP_FILE suffix from rule names
meant for targets that need to build with a .rsp file because we now use
per-target rules anyway. Remove this suffix from references to the rule
too.

The <LANG>_VISIBILITY_PRESET and VISIBILITY_INLINES_HIDDEN were first
merged in commit v2.8.12~322 (Merge topic 'VISIBILITY_PRESET-property',
2013-06-05) but worked only for shared libraries and executables with
exports. Prior to commit v3.0.0-rc1~581^2 (GenerateExportHeader:
Deprecate add_compiler_export_flags function., 2013-09-02) the
add_compiler_export_flags function was used to add visibility flags to
all targets.
The visibility flags are useful for sources in all target types because
they may be later linked into shared libraries or executables with
exports. Introduce policy CMP0063 to enable them for all target types
while preserving compatibility with existing projects that do not expect
this.
Don't create a snapshot in Initialize(), but leave the creation
responsibility to the cmake instance instead. Previously, the
cmState would Initialize() in its constructor, and the cmake instance
would re-Initialize() during Configure(). The end result was the
same and there would be one snapshot present. However, cmLocalGenerator
also created a snapshot on construction, and that one was used, leaving
the first snapshot unused, and potential for off-by-one errors.
Fix that by making the cmLocalGenerator use the existing snapshot
if it is top-level. Add a CurrentSnapshot to the cmake instance and
populated it while configuring a directory. This will eventually
replace the 'current local generator' concept. Fix the GetParent
implementation to be able to return the first snapshot.
The virtual methods are overrides not overloads, the constructor
is no longer a default variant, the destructor and GetCMakeInstance
comments add no value, only a typo.
The 'ctest --launch' command must be placed before the IWYU launcher on
the compiler command line. Extend the RunCMake.IncludeWhatYouUse test
to cover this case. The Ninja generator already does it correctly.
Drop the VS >= 7 generator's global Configurations member and instead
lookup configurations using cmMakefile::GetConfigurations where needed.
This avoids accumulating all CMAKE_CONFIGURATION_TYPES values ever
encountered by a project() or enable_language() command and allows
the final value to be used in each directory. We don't officially
support per-directory CMAKE_CONFIGURATION_TYPES values but we certainly
should not generate configurations not in the final value in the top
level directory.
This reverts commit f85db2f323.
Discussion by the QtCreator community at
https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTCREATORBUG-13695
raises concerns about this particular approach to working with CMake
projects using QtCreator. Also, the functionality and design of the QBS
extra generator was never discussed on the CMake mailing list or with
QtCreator developers. There may be better ways to make the two tools
work together.
In order to avoid committing to long-term support of this generator
prior to such discussion taking place, revert it from CMake for now.
We may restore this or use an alternative design based on results of
such discussion.

The QMacInstallDialog infrastructure no longer works on modern OS X
versions. Drop it and replace the dialog with a simple info box that
explains to the user how to run 'cmake-gui --install' to add symlinks.
Also suggest simply modifying the PATH.
This approach is similar to the Xcode 'xcode-select --install' method
of installing Xcode Command Line Tools.
On OS X add an "--install[=/path/to/bin]" option (defaulting to
/usr/bin) that installs symbolic links into the given directory.
This will help OS X users make the tools available on the command
line even when they sit inside a CMake.app bundle.
Always show the option with its argument separate in summary text.
State in the main documentation that the option and its argument can be
given together too.
In cmMakefile::PushScope, a copy of the closure of keys initialized
in the parent scope is made. In PopScope, essentially the same copy
is inserted back into the parent. That means a lot of duplication
of strings and a lot of string comparisons. None of it is needed,
because the cmDefinitions keys already provide a canonical
representation of what is initialized.
The removal of the separate container also makes the variable handling
code more easy to reason about in general.
Before this patch, configuring llvm uses 200 KiB for the VarInitStack.
Overall peak memory consumption goes from 35.5 MiB to 35.1 MiB.
Presumably the intention here is to attempt to optimize memory by not
storing what is not needed. However, all keys need to be tracked
anyway to implement initialization tracking, and this special case
gets in the way of simplifying the implementation of that.
This doesn't change any observable effects because values set
to 0 are considered not to exist by the cmDefinitions API.
Create a <LANG>_INCLUDE_WHAT_YOU_USE target property (initialized by a
CMAKE_<LANG>_INCLUDE_WHAT_YOU_USE variable) to specify an IWYU command
line to be run along with the compiler.
Add an internal "cmake -E __run_iwyu" mode to wrap the compiler call.
Run a given include-what-you-use command line with the compiler options
and report a warning if it finds anything. Then run the real compiler.

This option was once used by our OS X package installer to create
symlinks at install time. Since switching to the DragNDrop installer
we no longer use this option.
The backtrace will soon not be implemented in terms of a stack of
cmListFileContext objects. Keep the cmListFileContext in the API
for convenience for now.
The PushTLLCommandTrace method is called once per link item for a single
target_link_libraries command. Avoid storing copies of identical
execution contexts and rely on the uniqueness while printing output.
Our <LANG>_COMPILER and <LANG>_<TARGET_TYPE>_LINKER rule generation has
access to a specific cmTarget so the results may depend on it. Instead
generate separate rules for each target using an encoded target name.
In particular, this makes CTEST_USE_LAUNCHERS report proper target
information.
The lexical scope counting added by commit v3.2.0-rc1~332^2~1 (Track
nested loop levels in CMake language with a stack of counters,
2014-11-18) forgot to account for scopes popped by error messages about
unclosed scopes. Teach the error handler to pop the lexical scope it
reports as unclosed. Re-order the lexical scope RAII object to be
inside the variable scope RAII object scope so that the lexical scope
is fully closed before we check assertions about variable scopes.
Extend the RunCMake.Syntax test with a case covering this.
There is no need to duplicate these in all cmLocalGenerators.
Rename the symbols according to current conventions.
Add explicit calls to Set{Source,Binary}Directory with empty strings
in order to trigger the population of the components containers with
the current working directory in cmLocalGenerator. Having
directories set to empty is a special case in CMake, which is relied
on for the `if(CMAKE_BINARY_DIR)` condition at the end of
CMakeDetermineSystem.cmake.
The InitializeAutogenTarget creates new targets and adds them to the
Targets container on the makefile. In this method, we have a reference
to that container and we are iterating over it. That happens to work
with hash_map, but it fails with undefined behavior when using the
std::unordered_map from libstdc++-4.9 (and likely others).
